The 9 Baby Shower Essentials – Living Textiles Co
A friend or a relative is having a baby real soon, and there’s a lot to do. There is baby stuff to be bought, a nursery to be set up, and – oh yeah – a baby shower to be planned! If the responsibility of pulling off the perfect baby shoulder falls on your shoulders, worry no more as we are here to help!
The great thing about baby showers is that they can be as casual as carefree as you want it to be. But of course, looking into the details of planning a baby shower helps a lot to make sure that everyone – especially the expectant mom – has a great time.
When to Start Planning the Baby Shower
If the expectant mother is in on the planning, it is best to let her decide on the date of the baby shower. Consider that she may be very busy doing pregnant-things; after all, nesting, shopping, and checkups do take a lot of time!
But if you are planning a surprise baby shower, wait until the third trimester. The discomforts of the earlier months are probably already gone, and the discomforts that come during the eighth or ninth month aren’t there yet.
It is during this time that the expecting couple probably knows the baby’s gender already, which makes it easier for the guests to scout for unique baby shower gift ideas. Otherwise, if they are not considering knowing the baby’s gender prior to birth, then it’s wise to tell the guests to start looking for gender-neutral baby gifts.
So when do you start planning the baby shower? Do it at least a month and a half before the set date to allow for more flexibility and adjustments. This will also give the guests time to clear the calendar for the party.
If you are ready to plan, let’s go over the baby shower essentials you need to keep in mind!
9 Baby Shower Essentials for Perfect Party
A baby shower is truly a joyous event, a celebration of life! As the host of your loved one’s upcoming baby shower, it is normal to feel a little overwhelmed with this responsibility. Knowing the baby shower essentials will definitely help you plan the perfect party. Here are 9 things to keep in mind when planning a baby shower.
1. Choose a planning team. Delegate tasks!
If planning a baby shower seems to be a lot of work, that’s because it can be. So don’t do it on your own! Get your own team of responsible, trustworthy pals to help you with the tasks. Think of it as having your own bridesmaids – but for a baby shower.
2. Choose the final date and venue.
The first choice of venue will probably be the expectant mother’s home as this might be the most comfortable location for her. But you can also consider other options, whether indoor or outdoor. Just make sure that the venue is convenient, especially for the pregnant guest of honor.
3. Come up with a baby shower theme.
It is important to come up with a baby shower theme as early as possible as it will make the planning process a lot easier. Your theme can revolve around the expectant parents’ nursery theme if they already have one. For practical reasons, it is also helpful to have a theme that uses gender-neutral designs and colors.
4. Send invitations.
You should come up with a list of guests as early as possible, too, as you will need to send invitations at least a month and a half prior to the party. Make sure that your invitations contain all the important details: from the date and the venue to the theme and the program.
5. Share unique baby shower gift ideas.
As the date is nearing, it will be helpful to share baby shower gift ideas with the other guests. From age-appropriate newborn baby toys to soft baby blankets, the guests will certainly appreciate all of the ideas! While you can share ideas from a particular gift registry, you can also suggest gender-neutral and useful baby items.
6. Pick the decorations.
It can be a lot of fun picking the baby shower decorations! But, since you are going to be spending money on décor anyway, it is more practical to choose decorations that the expecting family can use. Decorate the venue with adorable newborn baby toys and the most charming soft baby blankets that can also double as baby shower gifts.
7. Set the menu.
Baby showers are typically laidback parties that don’t require an elaborate menu, but at the end of the day, it’s all up to you! Do remember to take note of the expectant mom’s dietary restrictions, if there are any, to make sure she enjoys the food at her baby shower.
8. Plan the party activities and the baby shower games.
No baby shower is ever complete without activities and several baby shower games! To make sure everyone will have fun, you can mix simple activities, like giving the expectant mom pieces of advice, and exciting baby shower games such as baby food guessing game and baby trivia.
9. Prepare thank you cards and party favors.
Finally, don’t forget to thank the guests for coming! Preparing simple thank you cards and party favors shows them you appreciate the time and effort they spared for the celebration. And for the pregnant guest of honor, you may prepare a special gift that is meant for her (not for the baby this time)!
Planning a baby shower can be fun and exciting even if it is a bit challenging! Now that you know the 9 baby shower essentials to keep in mind, you are definitely going to be the best baby shower planner in town.

How to Pick a Baby Shower Theme
Picking the right baby shower theme can make one a little nervous. There are so many options and you want to pick the right one.
So, here are a couple of questions to help make your decision easier.
How Well Do You Know the Guests?
If you know everyone that will be attending, you can gather their input and ask them to contribute (say if your design includes a lot of teddy bears, everyone could bring one!). This makes hosting a little easier!
Design by @_blownawayballoons_
On the other hand, if you don’t know all of the guests, this can be a bit more challenging. You obviously don’t want to design a baby shower that all will enjoy.
What is the Vibe of the Parent-To-Be?
Apart from the invited guests, your mom and/or dad might already have a theme in mind. Again, making your job that much easier!
However, if they don’t have a preference, choose a modern, boho, or classic theme based on their vibe. Surely they gravitate towards certain things they like, which will hopefully give you an idea of which theme to coordinate.
Answering these two questions will help you navigate the essentials below and pick out all of the best details for the baby shower.
Are you ready to start planning this beary cute event? Here are our 5 We Can Bearly Wait Baby Shower essential ideas!

2. Bearly Wait Balloon Decorations

We have seen extravagant setups with large light-up letters, giant teddy bears, and balloon garlands that wrap around the whole venue to a beautiful balloon arch which makes a picture-perfect backdrop for the mama-bear-to-be!
A teddy bear baby shower is a classic theme that is easy to put together, from the decorations to the tableware. Once you choose your baby shower theme colors, all of the other details should fall into place.

Your color combinations could use neutral browns, blush, and linen balloons. If you have a boy or girl, mix the neutral with a soft baby blue or pink. For the gender reveal, you could use a mixture of neutrals with both light pink and blue, or you could use yellows to coordinate with honey or bee decorations.
If the above has given you inspiration, take a look at our DIY balloon garland kits here. Not finding the perfect match? We customize balloon garland kits to fit your baby shower theme to a T!
3. Giant Stuffed Teddy Bear
You can’t have a bear-themed baby shower without actual teddy bear decor! When I think of a giant stuffed teddy bear, the state or county fair comes to mind. I’m sure you don’t have one giant teddy bear just lying around the house. But if you do, we may be a little jealous.
Obviously, if you don’t own a giant teddy bear, then you would first look at either buying or renting one. Depending on where you live, you may be in luck to rent one from a photographer who uses it as a prop or a party event service. If not, then you might have to purchase one, which can always be gifted to the mama-bear-to-be after the shower.
Maybe a giant teddy bear is just too extra. If so, adding small stuffed teddy bears throughout the party is always an option. You could ask each guest to bring one or purchase a variety of different stuffed bears. This would make the cutest decor to add to each guest table, the gift table, and throughout the party for the best pictures.
If several stuffed teddy bears are still not in the budget and you are planning a DIY party, then definitely take a look at a giant teddy bear mylar balloon! These balloons can be filled with air or helium and sprinkled throughout your party, which will make a super cute photo backdrop.

Everyone loves a sweet treat while attending an event! And while I’m sure you will have tables full of delicious bite-sized food for your guests, you will still need to create a cute dessert to match the baby shower theme!
Depending on the size of your guest list, you may need to have a few dessert options. Maybe a cake along with adorable, personalized cookies! Teddy bear-shaped cookies, along with honeycomb images, and of course the name of the baby in a beautiful script to complete the look.
If the cookies are too precious, you could also have them individually wrapped as cute teddy bear favors for each guest to take with them! Every dessert item can be easily personalized by adding a cupcake or cake topper with the name or just by adding cute napkins to the table.
How about adding a touch of cuteness to your cake? Check out our customizable balloon cake kit here!
5. Honey Favors
A little honey is on its way! What better way to send your lovely guests off than with a local, personalized jar of honey? This little gift is the perfect way to say thank you that your guests can actually enjoy and use in the months ahead.
Have the honey poured into cute little bear jars or simple mason jars with adorable, personalized tags or stickers. Add a cute honey dipper for the cutest baby shower favor that I’m sure all of your guests will love!
A honey favor, like the one pictured above, is perfect for a gender-neutral baby shower gift. It’s also the perfect way to support a local vendor and every time your friend or family member goes to use it, they will think of you and your baby.
BONUS: A Beary Cute Pooh Bear Baby Shower Theme
While a We Can Bearly Wait baby shower theme is perfect for all honey and bee-related designs, you can’t help but think about the cutest bear of all! And we all know that a certain bear loves some honey!
If you are not keen on teddy bears, think about doing a Pooh Bear-themed baby shower. You can coordinate all of the cute details listed above, but you can add specific cutout figures and pictured quotes around the baby shower to create a beary cute shower setting.
All of your guests will be familiar with this theme and it will be a perfect match if you find yourself decorating your nursery with the same theme.

How to organize a move to another city and bring things safely
There are two options for moving to another city with things — on your own or with a transport company. In the article we will tell you how to organize the process, safely transport things and save time and effort.
How to prepare for your move
There are a few rules on how to prepare for the move so that it goes smoothly.
- Start preparing at least three weeks in advance, and preferably a month in advance — this way you will have more time to get rid of the unnecessary and arrange everything neatly.
- Sort all things into rooms — for example, one will have appliances, dishes, books, the other — clothes, shoes, toys. This will help you navigate faster when packing.
- Stock up on markers and stickers so you can easily label the boxes.
- Keep a separate notebook or note for moving and write down all the things you need to do so that you don’t miss anything in the turmoil. It is better for the child to make a separate list of things.
- Throw away everything unnecessary in advance, even if it takes a long time — this way you will sort things out in a new apartment many times faster and make room for a new one. If you don’t use something for more than a year, chances are you won’t need it anymore.
It is better to choose a day off for moving — there are fewer cars on the roads. If possible, leave children and pets with relatives for this time — it will be easier to concentrate on business.
What kind of things is better to carry yourself
It is better to transport essential things yourself. So they will always be at hand, and you will quickly find them in a new place.
- Medications — Check medication expiration dates and vials for leaks.
- Documents — passport, driver’s license, policy, documents for an apartment, snls, TIN, birth certificate.
- Personal and valuable items — jewelry, gadgets, keys.
- Food and water for a couple of days — pasta, bread, vegetables and fruits, convenience foods if you have a refrigerator.
- Electric kettle, slow cooker or electric grill — this will simplify cooking.
- A set of dishes for each member of the family — a cup, spoon, fork, mug, knife.
- Towels and personal care products — toothpaste, brushes, soaps, shampoos, shower gels.
- Unpacking scissors and tool kit.
- Chargers — for phones, laptops, electric brushes.
- Clothes and shoes for the first time — for work, home, cleaning, sleep. Place a small iron or steamer and a clothes roller here.
- Everything for cleaning — buckets, rags, floor brush, cleaning products.
- Bedding and linen — blankets, sheets, pillows for each family member.
- Baby items — diapers, formula, bottle.
- Pet supplies — leash, bedding, drinker and bowl, food.
Such a set for the first time will be enough, while everything else has not been sorted out yet.
How to pack them so that they can be delivered intact and then easy to find
In addition to fees, it is important to securely pack your belongings so that unpacking does not take long. To begin with, put everything into different groups — separately clothes, food, medicines. This way you pack faster and know exactly where everything is.
Here are some packing tips:
- items must be packed in boxes or bags so that they are not damaged;
- put everything heavy down, light things up;
- line free places in boxes with paper, unnecessary rags — so things will not roll while moving and beat against each other;
- fragile items — dishes, mirrors — additionally pack in paper or bubble wrap;
- If you are traveling by car, start packing things with the least necessary so that the most important things are closer.
After packing, label the boxes so you can easily find what you need. Label in detail — do not write general words like «kitchen» on the boxes, but details like «cutlery». And take the time to label — it may seem faster to collect everything without a signature, but this way you will lose more time when parsing things. Additionally, you can make a list of things in the boxes to find what you need even faster and not read the labels on each box.
Here is an example of correct packaging
All boxes are labeled so you can easily find what you need.
And this is a less successful example:
Things are packed in boxes, but not all of them are signed.
All these rules will help to safely transport things to another city and simplify the process — things in signed boxes will be much easier to disassemble.
Which items are best transported by a transport company
You can send other things to another city by a transport company. The fastest transportation option will be chosen for you depending on the distance: air, railway, trucking.
This option has several advantages. You will save time — you do not have to transport things yourself in several approaches, everything will be delivered to the door. While the company is carrying luggage, you can focus on other important things. And strength — there will be no need to carry heavy things into the car, especially true for apartments without an elevator. Some companies have a cargo storage service — suitable in case the renovation in the new apartment is not yet completed.
Transport is better to transport everything that is not needed immediately, for example:
- books and magazines;
- all clothing and footwear — except for those that are needed immediately;
- all crockery — mugs, sets, cutlery, pots and pans;
- household appliances — toasters, coffee machines, electric grills;
- interior items — vases, lamps, mirrors, paintings;
- board games and children’s toys;
- extra towels and bedding sets.
How to pack them
There are several types of packaging for different goods:
For jewelry, smartphones, notebooks, choose boxes weighing up to 0. 5 kg. For books, cosmetics — up to 2 kg. For shoes, clothes, soft toys — up to 5 kg. For down jackets, pillows, blankets — up to 12 kg.
Put books in a box of 7-10 pieces so that it is not too heavy. Do not put liquids with them. Even if the lids are screwed on tightly, they can leak and ruin books. There are also wardrobe boxes — it is convenient to carry things on hangers in them and store them for the first time, when there is no wardrobe yet.
It is important not to overload the boxes — they must be really lifted.
Important! Additionally secure with tape or rewind with stretch film so that nothing falls out or gets dirty along the way.
Dense boxes of different sizes can be purchased at SDEK.
- Air bubble film
Suitable for packing fragile items: dishes, mirrors, glasses. You can wrap things with it before putting them in common boxes. It will protect the load while moving.
- Large bags
Choose large plastic bags or cloth. They can pack clothes, shoes, underwear, fabrics, curtains. These bags hold more things if they are tightly folded and pressed. Do not put things with sharp corners in bags — they can tear the bag.
- Vacuum bags
A great option for outerwear, blankets, blankets. You pack everything you need in a bag and vacuum out excess air through the valve — the result is a compact package.
- T-shirt bags
They are suitable for separate packing of clothes, shoes, underwear before packing in general bags or boxes.
Additionally, you need to purchase:
- Adhesive tape — for sealing boxes, bags, packages, fixing objects.
- Twine — it can also fix boxes and bags.
- Stretch film — for additional packaging of items and protection from dust, moisture, dirt.
- Waste paper or newspaper — for filling voids in boxes.
Packing list to be purchased
As a result, your shopping list will look something like this:
- 1 roll of bubble wrap, 1 roll of tape, 1 roll of stretch film, 1 roll of twine.
- 1 roll of waste paper.
- 15 boxes up to 30 kg.
- 15 boxes up to 15 or 20 kg.
- 10 boxes up to 10 kg.
- 5 boxes up to 5 kg.
- 30 large bags.
- 10-15 vacuum bags
- 2 rolls of disposable bags.
You can purchase materials here.
What are the risks of moving
The main risk when moving is to lose valuables. If you are carrying them yourself, put them in a conspicuous place so that they are always in sight. Transport companies have cargo insurance. Before concluding a contract, clarify this issue in order to be sure of compensation in case of loss. For example, CDEK insures all cargo.
Do not forget about the reliable packaging of fragile things if you are carrying them yourself — without it they may not arrive intact. If you send by transport, choose the company that is ready to deliver any cargo — even books, even an aquarium. This makes it more likely that fragile cargo will be taken care of.
What are the rates for moving CDEK
To organize the move, you can contact the CDEK company.
The «Main Express» tariff is suitable for moving. You can send cargo of any size — books, dishes, equipment, strollers, bicycles. There are no weight restrictions. Up to 30 kg the price is fixed, the surcharge is for each kilogram over. Valuable items can be insured.
There are different shipping options: bring things to the nearest SDEK point or call a courier home. Delivery can also be ordered to the point or to the door. Additionally, there is a service of lifting to the floor — on foot or by elevator.
But these are not all possibilities. If you have forgotten some important thing — documents, gifts, decorations — you can use the Super Express tariff. The courier will pick up the parcel, and bring it to you in 1-2 days at a certain hour. If the courier is delayed, the money will be returned.
Maximum weight up to 30 kg.
