4 Ways to Get Baby Poop Stains Out of Clothes That Have Been Washed

Looking for a great baby poop stain remover DIY style? Here are four of the best stain removers for baby poop stains. Between them, you should be able to get poop stains out of almost anything! Say goodbye to those poo stains and get these great tips on removing stubborn stains.

You would think by baby number four I would be a diapering pro and know exactly how to prevent diaper blowouts and remove set-in baby poop stains.

But, my fourth baby wanted to make sure I (finally) figured out the best stain remover for baby poop, so she frequently does things like this:

Hate cleaning but love a clean house? Pick up this printable Spring Cleaning Bundle and you’ll be able to clean it all without feeling overwhelmed!

I know that the best way to treat any stain is to treat them right away, run them under water, scrub them, pre-treat them with the proper baby stain remover solution, start them soaking, yadda yadda.   But, despite my desire to keep my kids’ clothes free from stains, sometimes life happens.

Sometimes the baby oozes poop all over herself when we are at church and I can’t exactly leave them in the church sink to soak.

Sometimes the diaper explosions happen right before we head out the door and I don’t have five minutes to rinse and scrub and treat the stain right that minute. Then I forget about it once we get back home.

Sometimes I am at home and change her diaper and clothes in the middle of about fifteen other things and I kinda forget about it. Especially if her messy diaper also left me with the task of removing poop stains from carpeting (which I also now know how to remove thanks to her).

Sometimes I put them in our laundry room basket to be “pre-treated later” only to have my awesome husband throw in a load of laundry for me and not treat the stain beforehand. I forget it was in the load, and move them over to the dryer, and well, the poop stain is set in the clothes!

Even when I do have time to treat the baby stain right away, it doesn’t always like to come out with my go-to DIY method.

For years I have treated poop stains by running them under cold or warm water in the sink, adding some hand soap (especially if in a public restroom – that’s all they have, but even our upstairs bathrooms only have hand soap), and then scrub the soap into the stain by rubbing the fabric on itself, then rinse, and repeat as necessary until most of the stain is gone. For good measure, I spray a pre-treater like Shout or Resolve onto it and put it in with the next load of laundry.

A lot of times, this will do the trick. Or mostly. Sometimes I miss a little spot or a slight yellowing color remains. Despite its less than stellar results, this is the method I used for my last three babies. It’s not the best method if it really doesn’t work all the time, works less than perfectly, and doesn’t usually do much of anything on poop stains set into the fabric.

Top Tips for Removing Stains

Thanks to the internet and some friends, I decided to test out some popularly recommended laundry stain removal tips, document them for you all, and share what worked and what didn’t work so well. You are very welcome.

Poop Stain Removal Method #1 – Dish Soap

Very similar to the method I have been using for years, friends recommended using Dawn Blue Dish Soap. I, however, do not have any on hand. I have pink Ajax dish soap, so that is what I used. It’s a step up from just hand soap for sure.

I took a video of my go-to scrubbing and rinsing process for you. In all disclosure, though, I have found that fleece is the easiest fabric to remove poop stains from. It almost never sets in it. Don’t ask me why.

However, I did try it on a few more pieces, like a crib bed sheet (which has Wite-Out permanently stained on – that is something  I have no clue how to remove from fabric! It’s been stuck on it for years now).

Bonus Method: It was recommended to me to use Dawn Dish Soap with Hydrogen Peroxide (50/50 mix). Mix them together in a dark hydrogen peroxide bottle. Pout it on the stain and let it sit on the stain overnight then wash. Make sure that you get the affected area well. These are simple steps to follow but are important to do.

Poop Stain Removal Method #2 – Fels Naptha

I have heard about this miracle laundry bar for a very long time and was excited to finally buy myself my own bar of Fels Naptha from Walmart for all of about $1 (it’s on Amazon too). Simply get the stain wet, scrub the bar into the stain, scrub it on both sides, let it sit for a few minutes, and then wash it normally. It worked fairly well for me and it did for the Inspired Housewife too.

It did a good job on the stained area and is something that was easy to do for a first step. This was a good cleaning solution that I can see being a good solution for baby-related messes.

Poop Stain Removal Method #3 – Sunshine

I had several people tell me that sunshine was the answer. That it didn’t really matter how you treated or washed your poopy clothes as long as you dried them in the sun (well, so said this blogger). In fact, I was told that even set-in stains could be removed with a little natural, free sunshine. If the stain was really bad you could add some lemon juice and then let it dry outside.

I was definitely a skeptic. The sun? Really?

So, I decided to really go for it. My husband had washed and dried a poop stain into our daughter’s Onesie and it was huge and ugly. So, I got it wet with water from the sink and added a little lemon juice from the fridge, because this stain seemed to call for a stain removing little boost. I didn’t scrub it all.

I set up my portable drying rack (I live in an apartment which is why I don’t usually think about using the sun to dry my clothes) outside and let it sit out there in the bright (January) Texas sunshine. Just a few hours later it was dry and this is how the Onesie looked:

Impressive right?! It was a little stiff from using the lemon juice so I ran it through the wash just to soften it up and remove the juice. There was still some  slight yellowing, but I added a little water only this time, and stuck it back outside and it looked  perfect. I tried it out on several other poop stains  it continued to impress me with how well it really worked!

The hotter temperatures must have done the trick. I really didn’t think it was a good idea at first, I was a skeptic! But this really is a good option to use. Just make sure that you put the clothes in the right place so that the fibers of the fabric can get that sunlight. Direct sunlight works!

I did this same thing when removing yellow stains on stored baby clothes and it worked like a charm. You can see that video on Youtube below:

Poop Stain Removal Method #4 – OxiClean/Pre-Treaters

My friend Chelsea over at Life With My Littles recently posted her go-to baby stain remover formula which involves OxiClean and Clorox 2 Stain remover and color booster. Many others recommended soaking the stains in OxiClean for various amounts of time, with various ratios of OxiClean and water.

While I think these methods can be highly effective, I don’t have a laundry room, which means I have to use a spare bowl and soak items in them, and leave the bowl either on my kitchen counter or on top of my washer or dryer. And then not forget about them. As dumb as it sounds, it’s almost too much work for me.

I have added OxiClean powder to regular loads and still had some stubborn poop stains afterward, but it often helps. I wanted to harness the power of OxiClean, but easier, so to remove poop stains, I tried an OxiClean Pre-Treater Gel stick. You push down on the stick when it is on your stain, and it releases the OxiClean gel, and then you rub it into your baby stain with the little nubs on top.

It’s pretty smart. And easy. I don’t think it works as well as other methods, especially to remove set in stains, but I like using it, especially in conjunction with other methods.

When it comes to getting the stains out of a baby’s clothes, there are so many great options. Make sure that you always test out an inconspicuous area and read the care label so that you know if there is something that you shouldn’t or shouldn’t use. The next step is to them get rid of the remaining stains and using any easy trick above is a good thing and should work! For additional tips, do your research if a stain remains! Different types of stains need different types of help!

Any of these methods are sure to help you know how to remove poop stains from clothes, even set in baby stains!

How To Prevent Poop Stains

Cloth diapers are great at preventing blowouts because of their shape and elastic gussets around the waist and legs. Even if you prefer the convenience of disposable diapers, it’s worth it to invest in a handful of cloth diaper covers to protect the disposables.

With cloth diapers, you won’t have to change your baby’s outfit every time they poop or hose them down in the bathtub after every messy diaper change.

If you already use cloth diapers, cut up fleece liners and lay them inside your diapers to catch the poop and prevent stains. Poop rinses out of fleece liners easily, especially once your baby is on solid food.

Many stores sell fleece blankets for next to nothing, and you can cut out around 30 liners from one throw blanket.

Some moms use Viva paper towels as diaper liners, although they may not be as environmentally friendly. Fleece liners are a more cost-effective option as they can be washed and reused if necessary.

Removing Stubborn Poop Stains

Sunning alone works wonders as a natural bleacher for most stains (1). However, this isn’t always an option if you live somewhere with dreadfully cold winters or in an apartment without space to hang clothes outside. Plus, there are always those stubborn poop stains in need of a little something extra. Here is what we recommend.

1. Remove The Poop

Rinse off poop from cloth diapers and garments as soon as possible. A cloth diaper sprayer is a terrific device you can hook right up to your toilet to save your sanity! If you’re dealing with poop on your carpet, try to pick up as much as possible (using a plastic bag or rubber gloves) so you don’t mash anything into the floor.

2. Soak In Water

Soak the poop-stained garment in warm water. For cloth diapers, carpets, or other fabrics, use a spray bottle to soak the stained area.

3. Use One of These Stain Removers

Pick one of these stain removers, depending on whether you favor natural or synthetic products.

Natural Stain Removers
  • Buncha Farmers Stain Stick: Rub the stain stick directly on the dampened stain, or fill a spray bottle with hot water and finely grate some of the stick into the bottle. Mix before spraying. Wash diaper as usual.
  • Lemon Juice: Either squirt a tiny bit directly on the wet stain or combine 1/4 cup lemon juice with 1 cup water in a spray bottle. Spray the stained area. Wash diaper as usual.
Synthetic Stain Removers
  • OxiClean White Revive: Pour a small amount directly onto the stain before washing.
  • Shout Stain Remover: Spray on the stain prior to washing.
Homemade Stain Removers
  • Dawn dish soap, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda: Dawn isn’t an all-natural product, but this trio is effective. Combine two parts peroxide with one part Dawn and one part baking soda. To make a large batch that can be used for future stains, combine two cups peroxide and one cup each of Dawn and baking soda.

4. Scrub And Let Sit

After applying a stain remover, scrub the stained area using a toothbrush or small scrub brush. Let it sit for at least 10–15 minutes after scrubbing.

5. Wash Thoroughly

Wash the garments or diapers as you normally would, or throw cloth diapers in the diaper pail until the next wash. Be sure to use a baby-safe laundry detergent or cloth-safe detergent (if you’re using cloth diapers).

For carpets, rinse using a spray bottle filled with cool water. Then pat dry with a cloth or towel or place a fan over it.

6. Dry In The Sun

If possible, hang the garments and diapers in the sun to dry after washing. Remember to hang colored or printed clothes inside out to prevent fading. Hang cloth diapers “hot dog style” to avoid stretching out the elastics.

Safe Cleaning Products For Cloth Diapers

If you are trying to remove stains from cloth diapers, make sure to use a cloth diaper laundry detergent and stain remover. There are online detergent indexes to check the safety level of your cleaning agents. All the stain removers listed in this article have been approved as safe for cleaning cloth diapers (2).

Baby poop stains happen: Here’s how to remove them

Your baby is the new love of your life, but something you don’t love? Poop stains on everything. Babies have accidents, but that’s no reason you have to throw out perfectly good clothing (yours or the baby’s), blankets, toys, or any number of things.

Blowouts happen, but when they do, you can be prepared. The best thing you can do is act quickly, but the next best thing is to take advice from us. We’ve got all the best tips and tricks to help you deal with blowouts and eliminate staining so that your baby’s gear and your favorite shirt stay good as new. Let’s take a look at this “crappy” situation and turn it into a success story.

Speed is key

Those bright yellow poop stains set in fast, so the key to having a prayer at stain removal is acting immediately. Once poop dries, it can be impossible to remove the oily, set-in color, and that’s your first big move.

Once you’ve cleaned your baby up, rinse poop off in cold water. Heat can encourage the stain to set so treat the material first with cold water. You can toss it in the sink while you’re bathing your baby so you can deal with it later.

If you’re out, rinse poop off in cold water and put it in your wet bag. The clothing or material will stay moist until you can get home to treat it.

Treat stains first

The next step to helping work out stains is to treat them. This time, you’ll switch to warm water to encourage your stain fighters to penetrate the fibers of the fabric and help lift stains.

A few common methods for soaking poop-stained diapers:

  • Use a fourth cup lemon juice with one cup of water in a spray bottle and spray or pour it into your soaking container. Lemon juice can help lighten stains on white clothing.
  • Use a stain fighter like OxiClean to help remove stubborn stains.
  • Use one tablespoon of dishwashing liquid and one tablespoon of white vinegar. Pour onto the stain and blot (don’t rub) to help lift stains.
  • Use hydrogen peroxide to remove the protein-based stain provided you have a colorfast fabric. Test a small area first if you can. Spray or dab a small amount on the stain and allow it to bubble up and blot; don’t rub.

For all these pretreatment methods, rinse your fabric on the opposite side of the stain to avoid pushing stains through to the other side of the material. Move on to the washing stage.

Wash in warm water

Hot water can be hard on your clothing or other materials, so use this as a last resort. Warm water on a regular cycle can help remove and agitate the stain so that you get it removed.

  • Use OxiClean to help remove the protein-based stain.
  • If you don’t have OxiClean, add a cup of white vinegar to your wash, and launder your clothing or material to remove stains and odor.

The biggest help for poop stains is a laundry detergent with an enzymatic component. These types of detergents help remove protein-based stains like poop better than conventional detergents and control lingering odors.

Don’t dry until you’re sure

Throwing clothing in the dryer is a sure way to find out you didn’t really get the stain out after all. The heat from the dryer sets in stains and makes it tough to remove them from fibers. Take the stained material out of the wash and do one of two things:

  1. Air dry and inspect the garment. If there’s no odor lingering staining, you can launder as usual the next time you have to wash the garment or material.
  2. Lay it in the sunlight to dry. Sun can help bleach any remaining stains and remove odors through UV exposure. This is one of the ways people helped to remove stains before fancy stain removers, and it could also kill lingering bacteria.

Removing stains from floors and carpet

Daria Shevtsova/Pexels

If your baby gets poop on your hardwood, tile, or linoleum, a quick swipe with a disinfectant and you’re good to go. But what if you’ve got a poop stain on the carpet? That’s a bit more challenging. Here’s what you need to do.

  1. Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar and one tablespoon of Dawn dish liquid in two cups of water.
  2. Apply the mixture with a clean, white cloth and blot the stain to remove it.
  3. Repeat until the stain and the odor are both gone.
  4. If there is any lingering staining, but no more coming up onto your cloth, use a dropper to apply hydrogen peroxide.
  5. Sponge the stain with cold water and allow it to dry naturally.

Once you’ve gotten the stain up, your carpet may still have matted fibers where the liquid has dried. Vacuum thoroughly to encourage the carpet fibers to fluff back up or use a carpet rake to agitate the fibers gently back to their original position.

Check the stain spot in a few days to ensure there are no lingering odors. Freshen with a bit of baking soda and vacuum the spot again to help get the fibers back to their original position and to hide any carpet matting from cleaning.

With thick, deep pile carpet, you may be able to cut out any fibers that remain stained. Gently part the carpet and use a thin pair of scissors to cut a single fiber. Fluff the carpet back with your fingers to check for any noticeable gaps. Don’t take too many, or you’ll end up with a hole in your carpet.

Dealing with stains

Acting immediately when you’re able to is the key to successful poop removal. Stains that sit for a long time are more likely to linger, but your favorite shirt or that adorable onesie may have a chance if you act now.

Whatever you do, avoid the dryer without checking on staining, and be patient with your pretreatments. Give them time to work so that when you do launder, they’re at their most potent. Don’t let those stains get you down — there’s hope yet!

The best diapers to prevent blowouts

Did you know that choosing the right diapers can prevent blowouts?

I didn’t know this at first, and thought that every baby had blowouts regardless of their diapers. Not so! Here are some tricks I’ve learned to prevent blowouts and baby poop stains.

  1. If your child does have a diaper blowout, it means they need to move to the next size. Don’t even try to finish that pack of diapers! Just give them away on Facebook Marketplace (see my Facebook marketplace selling tips here!) and move up to the next size.
  2. Worries that your child isn’t ready for the next size? Just layer an old size and new size diaper for extra protection until they are ready!
  3. I have tried SO MANY diapers. I tend to rotate between Huggies, Pampers, and Costco, but if I’m being honest, these are my favorite diapers. Pampers Baby Dry are much higher on your baby’s back, so they prevent leakage and baby stain and baby poo going up the back. Totally recommend!

Do it yourself removal: newborn poop stains

Keep all three items in your laundry room ready to go. When something gets stained…

  1. Remove as much of the bowel movement as possible
  2. Spray the stain with OxiClean stain pretreatment spray bottle. (I don’t scrub this in – just spray it!)
  3. Put the sprayed clothes into the bucket.
  4. I keep this bucket in my laundry room and let clothes soak in it for a few days. I always have a rotating bucket of clothes in my laundry room! (I like to keep the bucket on a towel on my washing machine.)
  5. Add a little Biz into the bucket and fill with water (hot water, warm water or cold water) – ABOVE THE CLOTHES LINE.
  6. Let clothes soak at least 24 hours.
  7. Add clothes as they are soiled for the next day or so.
  8. When you are ready to wash clothes (anywhere from 24 hours – 1 week later), add the entire bucket contents to your load and run in the washer and dryer.
  9. If after the first load, the stain doesn’t seem to be completely gone, soak again, and put the piece of clothing in an extra rinse cycle.
  10. That’s it! Spray, soak, wash. ✅

Additional Tips for stubborn poop stains on your baby outfit:

  • I leave the bucket by the washing machine and just keep adding clothes to the bucket whenever there are new stained clothes.
  • I’ve left clothes soaking for a week. As long as the water level covers the clothes – all is fine.  I have found that the clothes need to soak at least for 24 hours.
  • When we go on a trip, I take the OxiClean spray with me. I spray clothes, and wrap in a plastic bag until I am able to get home to soak them.
  • I have used this on so many types of fabric. But if you are worried about your baby’s outfit, I would definitely test on a smaller part of the stained item first before soaking the whole garment.

Stains I have been able to get out:

  • Stains that were washed and dried.  If the newborn poop stains were not removed, I just soaked them again and got them out the second time!
  • Stains that had soaked into the clothes for SIX days (from vacation). While on vacation, I carried the spray with me and pre-treated the clothes. Then, when we got home six days later, I soaked them for 48 hours and washed. The newborn poop stains were gone!
  • Stains that did not remove the first time. I repeated this whole process and they were removed.

I know this sounds too good to be true – but let me tell you. I have used this method on the WORST stains – with fabulous results!

Save your sanity. Skip the complicated ingredients, and keep your baby’s clothes clean!

How to Remove Yellow Poop Stains on Baby Clothes

Are you trying to remove yellow stains from baby clothes after a blowout? You’re not alone. Getting poop stains out of baby clothes can feel impossible. But here’s a really easy, all natural way to get those darn yellow stains out! Even if they’re set in. Here’s to saving that adorable outfit, mama!

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase, but you will not be charged a penny extra! And mama, I never recommend products I don’t love or believe in.

It doesn’t matter how many times people tell you this. You don’t fully understand until you’re in it. Literally.

There is so much poop with babies!

Having a baby is embracing a life full of poop. More poop than you care to imagine.

Before kids, a “blow out” was having a hairstylist make my hair all shiny and straight.  A “blowout” now has a completely different meaning. And it ain’t nearly as awesome.

And can we just talk about how yellow newborn poop is? It’s like turmeric yellow.

It stains everything.

So when a baby blows out a diaper, that staining powered yellow poop can utterly ruin the cutest outfit you’ve ever seen in under 5 seconds, right?!

And if the baby happens to explode while you’re out and about (which is, like, exactly when they blowout their diaper), you may not be able to soak the clothing right away.

How to get baby poop stains out of clothes

I’ve cracked it.

After 4 kids, I’ve finally figured out how to get almost any yellow stain out of baby clothes, no matter how long it’s sat. Naturally. With two products.

No toxic chemicals.

No bleach.

I’ll just be totally real here:

I did this for poopy baby clothes that I left in a top-knot bag for 4 days in the car after completely forgetting about them.

It was a very unpleasant surprise to find them.

Sound familiar?

I hope I’m not the only one who’s done this. But it’s the truth even if I am.

This method can work for those set-in stains that have already been through the dryer, but it is harder and may require a repeat session.

So if you have a baby poop stain you want to get out, but it doesn’t come out in the wash, don’t dry it! Try this method again.

What you’ll need to remove those yellow stains naturally

  • Baby OxiClean
  • Natural Dish Soap
  • Optional: Hydrogen peroxide

How to get baby poop stains out of clothes

Step One:

As soon as you can, rinse the poop stain very well. Get it wet and get any remaining chunks off.

Step Two:

Use a couple drops of natural dish soap on the stain and really scrub it in, getting it all sudsy. You can either rinse it, or just leave it all soapy for the next part.

Step Three:

In a medium bowl, add enough warm water to cover the clothes fully, but just. Add 2 tablespoons-¼ cup of Baby OxiClean and “scrunch it” into the dirty clothes and water.

Allow it to soak for 2-4 hours.

Step Four:

Add the dirty clothes to a load of clothes in your washer and wash as normal.

Remember: Before drying the baby clothes, double check that piece of clothing to make sure the stain is fully out! If not, repeat the process. It gets harder to remove the stain the more the clothes go through the dryer.

A note on what’s so great about Baby OxiClean

  • It only contains two ingredients (sodium percarbonate and sodium carbonate (known as soda ash)) which are derived from nature.
  • Because it’s naturally derived, it’s biodegradable. It has a high rating on the EWG website, and has no additives. This makes it a great product to use on baby clothes, especially if your little has sensitive skin (like all of mine do).
  • Sodium percarbonate, which breaks down into hydrogen peroxide, is a natural bleaching and lifting agent that is safe for colors, while killing germs (which is extra great when talking poop in my opinion).
  • Baby OxiClean also contains soda ash which has great cleaning power.

For extra yellow stain removing power

If you still have a stubborn poop stain on those baby clothes, grab some hydrogen peroxide.

Mix a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide with a teaspoon of dish soap and scrub it into the yellow stain on baby clothes with your husband’s a toothbrush.

(I actually love this replaceable head brush from Grove. It’s perfect for scrubbing large stains. And you could have a specific scrubber for dirty jobs like this and a separate head for dishes (also a dirty job, but different)).

Allow the mixture to sit on the stain for 5 minutes, then wash as normal.

Note of caution: hydrogen peroxide can have a bleaching effect, so use it at your own risk. My view has been, “the outfit might already be ruined from the poop stain, so what harm is there in trying?”

That stain should be completely gone now, and your adorable baby outfit fully restored. Until next time. 😉

If you give this method a try, please let me know your results! And while you’re at it, do you have a blowout story you want to share?

I never thought I would find myself actually appreciating baby poop, but the stool of an exclusively breastfed baby, I’ve learned, is something special. Especially when it comes to laundry and saving your baby clothes from the aftermath of poosplosions!

Not only does exclusively breastfed baby poo not stink, but it is water soluble, meaning it dissolves in water. This makes it surprisingly easy to successfully wash out of clothing (and cloth diapers!)

Don’t be deceived by that bright yellow appearance, friend! And don’t kick yourself for buying the cheap diapers and ruining that cute outfit. It’s probably not ruined. In fact, it is actually very easy to prevent stains if you follow these important steps:

STEP 1: IMMEDIATELY RINSE IN COLD WATER

To be honest, I’ve rinsed a pooped-on onesie in a lot of different temperatures, but since hot water can set some stains, I figure cold water is a safe bet, and it hasn’t failed me yet.

If you can’t wash your soiled outfit immediately, at least rinse it in cold water as soon as possible, since stains left by dried-on poo will be harder to get out.

You can shake off excess poo in the toilet if there is quite a bit on the outfit, but remember: exclusively breastfed baby poop is water soluble, so it will dissolve completely and won’t clog any pipes.

STEP 2: SCRUB WITH DISH SOAP

Some people swear by blue Dawn, but I’ve used about every dish soap under the sun–we usually have 7th generation free and clear at our sink–and it has worked just fine.

If you don’t have a dedicated scrub brush you’re willing to use, just use your fingers. Yes, barf, I know. But you’re going to get poop on you at some point, you’re scrubbing in soap, and exclusively breastfed poop is probably the least disgusting poop you’ll encounter as a parent (it helped me to think of it as just processed breast milk!). You can do this.

Scrub that stain vigorously with an a bunch of dish soap, then rinse and wring out the water.

STEP 3: WASH LIKE NORMAL

That’s right. No special detergents, stain removers, or cleaners. Just toss it in the laundry and wash. If you’re not ready to do a full load yet, you can get away with leaving your damp outfit in the hamper until you’re ready to wash.

When it’s time to wash, I’ve had success getting stains out while washing in a variety of temperatures. Avoid hot water though, as this can set protein-based stains (poo is protein-based!).

Don’t freak out if your outfit comes out of the wash with a yellow stain still visible! You’ve got a secret weapon: The Sun.

STEP 4: LAY THE DAMP OUTFIT IN THE SUN TO DRY

The Sun bleaches out stains! Sunning your stains works even if it’s raining or if the sun isn’t out, since it is UV rays (which are always present) that bleach the stain out. However, if you can get the outfit in direct sunlight (even if only through a window) you’ll probably have the most (or at least the quickest) success.

That’s it! Like I said: no special cleaners or detergents needed. This easy, four-step method has never failed me. And as a cloth-diapering mama, my bright white diapers (which have been pooped on repeatedly by two babies) are still bright white.

Crazy, no?

So don’t be afraid of those blowout diapers, mama. In just a few simple steps, you can clean breastfed baby poop off clothes in no time. You totally got this.

tips for a young mother — Homemade

With the birth of a baby, daily laundry is a constant ritual of a young mother. Despite the huge selection of diapers in pharmacies, not all parents trust them with their baby. In addition, feces can easily leak out of the diaper and stain clothes. When this happens, women begin to look for a safe and effective way to remove yellow stains from diapers.

How to choose the right washing powder

The skin of newborns is very sensitive, so the question of how to wash baby clothes from feces is very acute. For cleansing, you need a high-quality hypoallergenic powder designed specifically for children. When buying, carefully study the composition of the product. It should not contain:

  • aggressive chemicals;
  • chlorine and other optical brighteners;
  • fragrances and dyes.

Natural plant-based powder is suitable for baby. It is desirable that it dissolves well in water, rinses quickly and does not spoil the fibers of the fabric. Most women appreciated «Eared Nanny» and «Stork». They fully meet these requirements.

In order not to puzzle over how to wash children’s things from feces, try not to buy powder on the market and other dubious points. It is better to do this in a supermarket by checking the quality certificate and expiration date. This way you will save yourself from buying fake goods, which are now filled with the market.

Laundry soap

In order to prevent the occurrence of allergic reactions on the baby’s skin, many mothers continue to use the old method of our grandmothers. Household Soap is an excellent tool for washing diapers from feces.

  1. To wash by hand, soak clothes in hot water, lather thoroughly with soap and leave for a quarter of an hour. Then rub well and rinse in several waters.
  2. To clean diapers in the washing machine, grate a third of a bar of soap on a fine grater, pour the shavings into the powder compartment, load the laundry into the drum and turn on the wash cycle.

Remember that only natural soap can be used, no bleach added. It must be engraved with the numbers 67 or 72.

Our experts advise another way to clean poop. This is baby soap without additives. It must be used in the same way as household. It will protect the newborn from irritation as much as possible.

General rules for washing children’s clothing

Children’s clothing must be washed separately from adult clothing. It doesn’t matter what it is, sliders, diapers or walking overalls. How to wash baby diapers and undershirts in a washing machine?

  1. The main condition is not to overload the drum. From this, the fabric is washed worse, and stains remain on it.
  2. If the machine has a «Baby Wash» function, start it. When it is absent, set the water temperature to 80-90 C, turn on the intensive wash mode and extra rinse.
  3. Boiling water will destroy germs that are dangerous for newborns and improve the quality of washing.

When washing by hand, rinse the recorded diapers in cool water, unscrew and then soak in hot soapy water. Wait 15 minutes, rub and rinse several times.

Washing diapers from feces

How to remove feces stains if the baby has soiled the diaper? Don’t leave cleansing for later.

  1. Immediately remove any stool from it by rinsing and rubbing it with your hands under cold running water. Don’t neglect this moment. If you do not do this, the yellowness will be deeply absorbed into the fabric, and it will be very difficult to get rid of it.
  2. Prepare a soap solution in hot water, rub the diaper with soap and soak it for half an hour.
  3. Then wash as usual.

When the laundry is dry, be sure to iron it on both sides if the baby’s umbilical wound has not yet healed. This will keep the baby safe from infection. After the navel has healed, ironing is allowed on one side.

How to wash things with improvised means

If yellow spots could not be washed off immediately, do not worry about how to wash a newborn’s diaper from feces. Try a proven folk remedy.

  1. Pour 10 liters of hot water into an enamel basin.
  2. Dissolve 1 tbsp. l. ammonia and 2 tbsp. l. hydrogen peroxide.
  3. Place dirty diapers there, stir several times and leave for half an hour. Then take out, rinse and stretch the household. soap.
  4. Stubborn stains are thus easily removed.

There is another way to clean baby poop easily. You will need ammonia and regular alcohol. Pour the soaking water into a bowl and dissolve a large spoonful of ammonia in it. Treat the stain on the diaper with alcohol and immerse it in water after a few minutes. Leave the laundry to soak for an hour and wash with powder.

Soda and salt on guard of cleanliness

The older children get, the more difficult it is to clean their stools. Try a reliable way to wash baby sliders from yellow spots — soda solution.

  1. To prepare it, add 6 tbsp. l. funds in a five-liter basin with water and mix well.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of ammonia and soak soiled sliders for 3 hours.
  3. Be sure to wash in the washing machine afterwards.

This method does not damage the fabric structure and is suitable for regular use.

Table salt is good at removing dirt. How to use it to remove yellow spots on diapers? It is necessary to dissolve 3 tablespoons of salt in hot water, add the same amount of peroxide and a spoonful of ammonia. At the end, pour a little washing powder into the water and soak the laundry. After a few hours, send things to the washing machine.

Potassium permanganate for stains

If you are wondering how to wash feces so that not a single spot remains after it, use potassium permanganate. Pour 200 g of vinegar into a bowl, throw in a few granules of manganese and mix. Soak a piece of cotton wool in the liquid and rub the dirt until it begins to fade and disappear.

Stubborn sweat or fecal marks are difficult to remove from laundry. How to wash diapers from old stains without using chemical bleach? There is a proven recipe:

  • fill an iron bucket with very hot water;
  • pour enough manganese into it so that the liquid becomes light pink;
  • grate the soap and add 2 tablespoons to the solution;
  • put the diaper in the water and wait until it has completely cooled down.

Items must be washed. You just have to rinse them thoroughly and dry them.

Boiling

Mothers with a modern washing machine are relieved of the need to regularly boil things for newborns. Destroying germs is easy by running the wash cycle at the highest temperature.

In rare cases, after this cleaning, things are not completely washed. Then you can return the crystal whiteness and freshness to clothes by boiling.

What is the best way to clean baby feces? Our moms used a simple recipe.

  1. A five-liter pot was filled with water and placed on the stove.
  2. Grated grated bar hoz. soap and pour it into a container.
  3. Added a spoonful of baking soda to the liquid and waited for the water to boil.

To wash baby diapers in this way, dip them one by one in boiling water and leave them in it for 1-2 minutes. If the spots are very persistent, repeat the procedure.

Be sure to rinse the laundry 3-4 times after boiling and hang to dry in the sun.

Remove fecal stains — Oh Italia

Children sometimes crap their heads — impossible to remove with water — how can I?

The main thing is to wash it immediately, as you notice, and, in no case, leave it even for a short time, because. it will be much more difficult to remove.

First rinse the dirty item well with water. Then lather the stain with soap and wash by hand. Usually this is enough, at least I had no problems with it. But if the stain still remains, then you can resort to using a stain remover (sparing for colored things). Vanish helps in this case. It should be applied a little on the stain, leave for 15-20 minutes. Then wash again (you can use the machine) with the addition of a little stain remover to the washing powder.

Baby diapers and their washing is a daily reality for every mother. Even today, not everyone makes a choice in favor of diapers. Many decide to use them not constantly for several reasons. Sometimes children’s «surprises» flow through diapers. Often, during the hot season, mothers also decide not to dress their children in diapers. In this case, one has to wonder: how to wash children’s things from feces and urine. Today we will share tips that will help you keep things clean and use diapers for a long time.

We clean things from children’s surprises

The first rule that you should rely on is not to delay cleaning, but try to clean the linen as quickly as possible. Everyone understands that there is never a lot of extra time, but try to soak the diapers in a basin of water as soon as you change your child’s clothes to fresh ones. After removing the dirty diaper, it is necessary to remove the existing dirt and soak the product. This will ensure that the washing will go without problems and will not require the use of additional cleaning products.

If possible, try to quickly rinse the soiled area under a tap. Then take laundry soap and lather the fabric well. We recommend using just such a soap: it removes traces of bowel movements extremely effectively, but it costs a penny. After processing with soap, we throw the laundry into the machine, adding children’s washing powder. For those who are thinking about how to wash diapers from feces, it is important to know that hand washing is optional in this case. If the baby’s skin is very sensitive and easily irritated, baby soap should be used instead of washing powder, while adding several rinse cycles to the washing program.

Machine wash and boil

Don’t know how to wash baby poop without a special bio wash and are afraid that the fabric may deteriorate and the dirt will remain in place? In the absence of such a program, you can do the following. Initially, we put the laundry in the drum, set the temperature to 40 degrees and add a detergent containing enzymes to the detergent compartment. Thanks to these components, washing in warm water will be effective. After we start the cleaning process again, in this case — at a temperature in the range between 60 and 90 degrees.

When washing your laundry in the machine, remember that fewer items per load means more effective cleaning. There is a simple explanation for this. During cleaning, the contaminated fabric hits the walls of the drum, which allows the dirt to be removed from the fibers. This does not happen when fully loaded. The same negative effect can be achieved if, accidentally or intentionally, instead of powder for automatic washing, you use a product that is washed by hand. Due to the abundant foam, the laundry is poorly washed. Finally, diapers can be cleaned by simply boiling. We wash them a little with our hands, then put them on the stove and bring to a boil. Washing powder replace laundry soap rubbed into shavings.

Ways to get rid of urine

Moms with babies who have bedwetting have to figure out how to get urine stains out of bed sheets. There are several options, so we will talk about the most popular. However, the first step is to rinse the soiled sheet in a bath filled with warm water. Thanks to this manipulation, the cleaner will do less work, and the fabric will be washed more efficiently. When you’ve finished rinsing, choose one of the appropriate cleaning methods that will help get rid of the yellow marks with a strong odor.

For example, you can use laundry soap. We thoroughly lather the wetted product, leave it for a couple of hours or all night, wash it in the morning. If it doesn’t help, we clean it with “Eared Nanny” (laundry soap for cleaning children’s things), after an hour we send it to the laundry. Soap the soiled white things, leave for a quarter of an hour and wash. In case of serious contamination, bleach (Whiteness, Vanish and their analogues) can be used. We read the instructions, apply the required amount of funds, after a quarter of an hour we wash and rinse thoroughly. Be aware that unwashed items with urine stains should not be ironed. Otherwise, you won’t be able to wash them.

Clean colored fabrics with acetic solution (1 teaspoon of acid per glass of water). Wet the stained area with the solution and leave it for 60 minutes. Then we wash the wardrobe item and wash it in warm soapy water. Finally, you can use a solution of citric acid (1 tsp) in water (1 cup). We process the yellow mark on the fabric, wait for the product to work and wash the product with soap. When the above methods don’t work, you can use a stain remover suitable for cleaning children’s clothes.
