The Best Cartoons for babies on Netflix and HBO

There are many children’s series on Netflix that not only like children but have conquered adults, such as Hilda or Beat Bugs. But if you do not know what is suitable for a baby of one or two years, basic so that they know how to follow the rhythm or the thread, we review some of the best educational series and suitable for preschoolers. The main features of these series is that they hardly have dialogues (or are easy to follow) and are very colorful and attractive. In addition, in almost all there are songs or catchy music that makes viewing much more enjoyable.

It is essential, before you put on any infant or baby series, that there is adult supervision and that you activate the Netflix Parental Control or the HBO Parental Control to avoid accidentally appearing inappropriate content for children.

If you are looking for one of the best series for babies but do not want it to be exclusively with songs, Word Party is one of the best options. Without a doubt, the original Netflix series is an essential creation of Jim Henson for babies or preschoolers since it is a very easy to follow production, adapted to the little ones, with very simple dialogues and with adorable characters that will make that improve their vocabulary and learn in the moments they are watching television. Totally recommended for them.

Fiesta de palabras is an original Netflix series with almost 50 episodes and four baby characters: Lulu, Bailey, Franny and Kip. The four baby animals play in a nursery and discover new words in each episode. When they don’t know what a word is, they call the robot Paly Word that helps them with the meaning and explains new words.

For all this, Word Party is one of the best options if you are looking for series for babies of one or two years who start talking and knowing what surrounds them. It is also very useful for slightly older children, three or four years old, who want to learn words in other languages. Tut Tut Cory Bolids is an ideal series with a theme that any baby usually likes: cars. A series easy to follow, colorful and with very short chapters that do not even reach ten minutes. The theme, the images, the history or the duration of the episodes makes it ideal to watch at any time free or entertaining to watch it as a family.

Charlie’s Colorforms City

Charlie is optimistic, colorful and a character formed by geometric figures. Charlie and his friends, Violet and Red, use geometric shapes stickers to build everything around them or live all kinds of adventures. For example, if they want to eat pancakes they will have to create it. Or build a race car with geometric shapes, for example. They will do everything they need to have fun or to live all kinds of adventures.

Charlie in Villape Sticker is an original Netflix series and one of the best series for babies or preschoolers. It is a very simple story, the dialogues are very simple (excessively simple for older children) and there is no lack of color or music in all episodes. In addition, the smallest of the house can learn geometric shapes or colors , with very simple and understandable vocabulary at any age.

The brothers Cleo and Cuquín, along with the rest of the family (Teté, Maripí, Pelusín and Colitas), will have to solve the problems they encounter on a day-to-day basis or have a good time all in family.

Vera, Songs with spark

Vera is an adorable character, an original Netflix cartoon series in which Vera and Bartleby are the protagonists, two characters who are responsible for fulfilling the dreams and desires of the other inhabitants of the Rainbow Kingdom. If there is a problem, Vera will always try to solve it so that everyone is happy.

Vera has been a creation of Neflix that has become a success and you can find several series available with the same protagonists, the same solidarity theme and the same adorable characters and all kinds of creatures. We recommend, for the little ones in the house, Vera’s Sparkle Songs that are a good colorful and musical option to enjoy at any age.

In general, all the available series of Vera are some of the best series for babies that you will find on Netflix for its theme, its colorful, constant songs and easy to follow dialogues as well as a story fully accessible to babies or children under three or four years And, how could it be otherwise, there is no lack of music, simple and catchy songs that we hear in each chapter.

Pocoyo

In a list of best series for babies could not miss the great classic of recent times: Pocoyo. Pocoyo was born more than ten years ago but remains one of the most recommended options for preschoolers or babies. A Spanish series that has been dubbed into English and with which the little ones can begin to familiarize themselves with the language thanks to a very simple vocabulary, characters that speak directly to the public and very basic structures in the phrases they use in the dialogues. It is one of the great classics and there are no scripts but we will watch easy and understandable words even for children who do not know how to say anything yet. It is simple, recommended and entertaining for them.

One of Pocoyo’s main advantages is that it is a series that we find on virtually all platforms. It is one of the best baby series if you have Netflix but you can also find it on Amazon Prime Video, on Movistar Plus or on HBO, even on YouTube. In addition, there are also specialized episodes and chapters dedicated to Christmas, cars, carnival, Halloween …

Octonauts

The Octonauts (or Octonauts) are a series of underwater explorers that have to protect the marine world and everything in it. The motto and mission of these characters is to explore, rescue and protect everything in the sea. And that’s what they do in the almost 40 episodes available on Netflix. They rescue creatures from the sea and live all kinds of adventures in a series that seeks to raise awareness about respect for the marine world or raise awareness of the little ones about being respectful of the environment and all the species that surround us. Ideal for little ones.

This title is one of the best on Netflix in this area, it won an award as the best preschool series and is, without a doubt, one of the most recommended options if you are looking for something more complete and complex than simple children’s songs. In this series we will have history and argument but easily understandable for children and babies and entertaining for adults who are going to watch it with them.

In Youtube

Beyond Netflix, YouTube is the best platform to find the best baby series or music videos that will draw your attention to the sounds and their color. Some channels offer you the possibility to put videos with a specific duration in which thematic songs or dances appear for 30 minutes, 40 minutes or one hour.

You can also choose specific themes or just the songs that your baby likes best. The drawback of YouTube versus Netflix is that you will not be able to download the videos to watch them offline unless you have a YouTube Premium subscription .

All these YouTube channels allow us to watch cartoons for babies and music and songs for the little ones wherever we are and with a colorful content adapted to children.

8 Shows To Watch If You Are Trying To Break Your Kid’s CoComelon Addiction

As a parent of three young kids, I watch more children’s TV shows in the hope of entertaining restless little ones than I care to admit (to myself, and judging friends and family who preach about the dangers of too much screen time for developing minds). And, no matter how hard I try to rid my kids of the plague that has found its way into my home, there is no escaping one show in particular: CoComelon on Netflix.

Despite this, I have been looking for replacements for CoComelon, not because I’m worried about the supposed damaging effects of the show on developing minds (I’m not an expert in that field, so I won’t comment), but because I need to break my kids’ addiction to the cheery, oddly animated phenomenon that has taken up a permanent spot on the Netflix Top 10. Here’s what I’ve found…

Classical Baby (HBO Max)

First introduced in 2005, the HBO animated series Classical Baby is something the entire family can enjoy and has been a favorite among my kids and myself for about as long as I have been a parent. Each of the 17 episodes focus on topics ranging from music to art and dance to holidays, with so much in between.

Winner of multiple accolades, including a Peabody Award and four Emmys, Classical Baby is a far more relaxed alternative to CoComelon, and helps introduce young children to classic musical arrangements by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and other classical composers. Basically, this is a must for anyone with an HBO Max subscription.

Baby Einstein (Peacock)

Originally created in 1996 by a mother and former teacher looking for a show to introduce to her young children, Baby Einstein is a series a videos that uses animation, puppets, and live-action footage to teach young kids about a variety of topics including poetry, foreign languages, colors, animals, and so much more.

Baby Einstein is a great transitional series to show to your young kids if you don’t want to get them off CoComelon cold turkey, but instead gradually, as it features a number of songs that will quickly become very familiar to them. But, unlike the popular Netflix show, this video series has more structure and is less of a free-for-all.

Rolie Polie Olie (Disney+)

If you and your kids are fans of William Joyce’s beautifully-illustrated books or Academy Award-winning animated short, then Rolie Polie Olie is the perfect option. This CGI-animated series, which ran on the Disney Channel from 1998 to 2004, follows an adorable little robot named Olie Polie who finds himself getting wrapped up in all kinds of adventures on his unique world and beyond.

Growing up in the same town as William Joyce, I long have had love for the show and the rest of his work, which made Rolie Polie Olie’s 2021 addition to Disney+ such a delight. You don’t have nearly as many songs (though you won’t get the theme song out of your head), but if your kids are like mine, they’ll quickly become obsessed with this wholesome show.

Sesame Street (HBO Max)

There isn’t much that can be said about Sesame Street that hasn’t been brought up before, but there is no denying its place in the annals of children’s TV history. This landmark program was created by Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrisett in 1969 and has remained just as relevant over the course of the past 52 years, with its iconic characters and their ability to connect with kids and parents alike.

With the many colorful and unique residents of Sesame Street, the show will surely keep your kids attention long enough for the lessons to resonate at some point. And, with enough variety found on the show, they’ll find at least one thing they like. Definitely one of the best shows on HBO just for kids.

Bluey (Disney+)

The Australian animated series, Bluey, which was first introduced in 2018, is a rather simple children’s show geared at the preschool audience, but it does a lot of things really well. The show follows Bluey, a young Blue Heeler who gets in all sorts of adventures with her family that has them setting off to worlds of their own imagination while also teaching the audience about the importance of family and introducing them to Australian culture.

One of the best things about Bluey, is the fact that it can genuinely be enjoyed by the whole family. Plus, the animation is straight up beautiful, making it a real treat for the eyes.

Pocoyo (Netflix)

In terms of great animated children’s shows on Netflix, there are few titles as enjoyable as the Spanish-British series, Pocoyo. This delightful program, which features narration by British comedian Stephen Fry, follows young Pocoyo as he makes his way through various hilarious situations with an assortment of animal friends in a giant white void (well, except for the colors that get all inverted).

My son loved Pocoyo particularly, and I have even caught his grandparents enjoying it from time to time over the years. If you want some light humor to balance out all those CoComelon songs, then this cheerful animated treat is worthy of spin.

Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood (Amazon)

There are few shows that mean as much to a large portion of the American population as Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, the long-running educational children’s show that ran on PBS from 1968 to 2001. This multi-format show featured host Fred Rogers in a number of different segments that saw him do everything from interact with puppets and real-life people out in the world.

Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood is about as different from CoComelon as it gets, as it has a slower pace that allowed Fred Rogers to connect with his target audience (young children) unlike ever before. Not afraid of silence or uncomfortable situations and topics, Rogers broke new ground with the genre and continues to inspire generations nearly 20 years after his passing.

Jim Henson’s Word Party (Netflix)

Even though Jim Henson passed away in 1990, his legacy still lives on thanks to the Jim Henson Company and the various educational shows it has produced over the years. One of the most recent additions to that list of achievements is the Netflix animated series, Jim Henson’s Word Party, which serves to entertain and educate children with skits and songs that help expand their vocabulary.

Each episode has a different topic, including space, dinosaurs, family, and outdoor adventures, each showing young children something new about the world around them and beyond. And, each episode clocks in under at 15 minutes, which is perfect for younger kids with short attention spans.

Stream Jim Henson’s Word Party on Netflix.

I’m not saying your kids will allow you to replace CoComelon with any of these shows, but these should be more than helpful if you’re looking for a good place to start. And, in the event you want to know what other children’s programming is coming out this year, check out this list of upcoming Netflix TV shows.

Philip grew up in Louisiana (not New Orleans) before moving to St. Louis after graduating from Louisiana State University-Shreveport. When he’s not writing about movies or television, Philip can be found being chased by his three kids, telling his dogs to stop yelling at the mailman, or yelling about professional wrestling to his wife. If the stars properly align, he will talk about For Love Of The Game being the best baseball movie of all time.

From ‘Daniel Tiger’ to ‘Puffin Rock’

What are the best shows streaming for toddlers and preschoolers? It’s a really hard question, made tougher by the fact that if you have a toddler or preschooler, you might not know anything about kids’ TV shows right now. If this is your first kid, it’s not like you’ve been watching a ton of kids’ TV for the past ten years, right? Anyway, you’re skittish about getting your toddlers addicted to new TV shows or cartoons, we get it. Any parent who has binged the best TV shows on Netflix knows that good TV can be a many-edged sword. Really great TV can be entertaining and enriching, but because toddlers are just starting to understand the real world, introducing them to the pretend world of TV can be tricky. So, selecting a good TV show for your kid that may end up being their first TV show is actually a bigger deal than you think.

“The main key, as in all parenting, is to know your kid,” says Marie-Louise Mares professor in the Department of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. “Some kids are pretty easily scared, others really love excitement, some adore anything to do with trucks, others are crazy about puppies.”

So what makes for the best TV shows for toddlers? Besides individual preferences, children generally learn best from short, clear visual demonstrations rather than lots of talking or singing. And make sure you’re there to help them make sense of it all. “Young children often seem to have a hard time grasping that TV content actually applies to the real world. So parents can really help them by pointing out connections — ‘That’s just like you and Timmy!’ — or asking the kid to make connections.”

Making connections. That’s what it’s all about. Her the best toddler TV shows that come close.

Dinosaur Train (Streaming on PBS Kids, Amazon Prime)

Another Jim Henson Company treasure, Dinosaur Train is required viewing for children who love dinosaurs — in other words, most toddlers and kids. The program follows a family of Pteranodons and their adopted T-Rex sibling as they board a train to visit a different species of dinosaur each episode, learning about their diets, behavior, and more. Each episode is paired with a short segment further exploring real-life science with a live-action paleontologist. The laser focus on species makes each episode a lesson unto itself, especially given the show’s focus on lesser-known beasts.

Beat Bugs (Streaming On Netflix)

This is a gem hiding in plain sight. Were you aware there is a relatively brand-new children’s cartoon in which each episode is based on a Beatles song? Yeah, we didn’t figure this out until very recently either. Since 2018, the series Beat Bugs has been chronicling the adventures of some very musical bugs who live in a specific backyard. Every episode starts with “All You Need Is Love,” but each story will revolve around one song written by the Fabs. For example, the first episode is called “Help!” and it’s about one of the Beat Bugs getting trapped inside a glass jar. Sometimes big celebrities do the Beatles covers which includes big names from Rod Stewart to Pink. Really!

Not every Beatles cover on the show is great, but in a world where so much kids’ music is the worst, the Beat Bugs, at least, have good taste.

Tumble Leaf (Streaming On Amazon Prime)

Tumble Leaf is one of the most gentle shows on this list. It’s also a show in which the characters aren’t constantly complaining or getting hurt or freaking out. Of all the shows on this list, Tumble Leaf is one of the few that really is about exploration. The animation style is partially stop-motion, so it has a kind of old-school vibe. Imagine Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox, but actually made for kids and a little weirder. Nothing really makes sense in Tumble Leaf, but the message is one of patience and exuberance. The main character, a blue fox named Fig, has a pretty great catchphrase: “Let me figure this out.” Figuring things out with patience and beauty is a rare thing with kids’ shows. Tumble Leaf actually has both.

Pete the Cat (Streaming On Amazon Prime)

Based on a book series by Kimberly and James Dean, the TV version of Pete the Cat differs from the source material insofar as it’s a little more specific. It’s also a show that tries to indoctrinate children with having good taste in music. Seriously, the songs Pete and his friends sing about the various things they deal with are catchy and well-written. That’s probably because actual musicians Elvis Costello and Diana Krall are involved, and play the voices of Pete’s mom and dad. A lot of kids shows claim to “rock.” This one actually does and, best of all, it’s not annoying.

Octonauts (Streaming On Netflix)

Octonauts straight-up kicks ass. Imagine a mash-up between classic Star Trek and The Life Aquatic, only it’s all animals who live on an underwater station. This is, perhaps, the only toddler cartoon that can also be called a bonafide adventure series. The music feels like the score to the Incredibles and the constant sea creature dilemmas are legitimately cool. Best of all, each episode ends with a “creature report,” where you learn that the sea animal encounter by the crew was actually real, and you learned some cool facts about it. Like, for example, did you know there was such a thing as an immortal jellyfish? Me neither. The Octonauts also get points for having a tight wordless theme song that could easily fit in a Bond movie.

Puffin Rock (Streaming On Netflix)

Want to watch a relaxing show about puffins doing cute things while the whole story is narrated by Chris O’Dowd, who, if we’re being honest, sounds a little drunk? Puffin Rock isn’t the most overtly perfect toddler show of all time, but it does have a pygmy shrew named Mossy, who is doing his best to normalize farting. That fact, combined with the soothing tenor of Chris O’Dowd’s voice is enough to make this one a huge winner.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood (Streaming On PBS, Amazon Prime)

You’ve heard of this one.

A hugely popular re-imagination of the classic Mr. Rogers characters, the key to the impact of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood is the constant repetition of lessons learned in the form of jingles. Whether Daniel — the toddler son of the original series’ tiger puppet — is learning to deal with feelings of jealousy or sadness, adapting to the arrival of a little sister, or finding value in sharing, the straightforward stories allow constant repetition of songs in an effort to help toddlers remember behavioral cues without downplaying the big feelings they’re experiencing. Daniel also often doesn’t wear pants, but there’s a good reason for that.

Word Party (Streaming On Netflix)

A collaboration between Netflix and the Jim Henson Company, Word Party’s aim is to help young children expand their vocabulary. Short and sweet, the TV show follows a group of diaper-clad baby animals as they learn new words, frequently turning to the audience — the “big kids,” as they call viewers — to help them learn what words mean and how to use them. It’s cute, quick, and easily digestible for toddlers.

Doc McStuffins (Streaming On Disney+)

This long-running series takes place in the imagination of Doc, who spends her days helping mend her sick toys, allowing children an analog for real-life illness as well as emotional hurdles they might encounter. Each episode includes a “check-up” sequence where Doc uses clues around her to make a diagnosis and eventually teaches her toy friends not only how to mend themselves, but how to deal with their problems and prevent future trouble.

Elinor Wonders Why (Streaming On PBS KIDS)

One of the newer PBS shows is easily the most gentle. The titular Elinor is a bunny who wonders about various things. With a pro-science, pro-curiosity take, Elinor has the unique status of being one of those shows that is brand new, and not annoying in the least.

Kazoops! (Netflix)

A show for toddlers focused on the pure, freeing power of a child’s imagination, Kazoops! follows the make-believe adventures of Monty and his best friend, an adorably cuddly pig named Jimmy Jones. Though not as overtly educational as some of the programs on this list, Kazoops! excels in its celebration of the imagination, and the real-world prompts that send the hero’s mind soaring in new directions offer ample fodder for further exploration. The kindle-rock soundtrack that accompanies each episode is guaranteed a place on most families’ playlists.

Sesame Street (Streaming On PBS Kids, HBO Max)

Yes, it’s the most obvious entry on the list. But there’s a good reason: Sesame Street has been the gold standard for children’s entertainment ever since it debuted in 1969, and the show owes much of its longevity to its ability to change with the times. From the introduction of new animation techniques and musical genres to featuring characters on the autism spectrum, Sesame Street remains grounded in the zeitgeist — and it’s still plenty enjoyable for adults. For those still crying foul that it now airs new episodes on HBO, fear not: PBS still has the entire back catalog, with new episodes debuting nine months after their HBO premieres. It seems like a long time to wait for the latest “Cookie’s Crumby Pictures” parody, but it’s worth it.

There are many other characters in the cartoon: Parus and Masya, Dedus, Fire, Ygrek and other funny characters.

Peppa Pig

IMDb 6.8

0+

«Peppa Pig» is a cute cartoon about relationships in the family and society. All characters are animals, but each of them is endowed with a certain quality inherent in man.

The main characters in the cartoon are a charming and kind family of pigs: father Pig, mother Pig, daughter Peppa pig and little brother George, who loves dinosaurs. Baby Peppa, in turn, is not so simple — if she was offended, she can respond by ridiculing other people’s shortcomings and showing her anger. This is probably a useful example for kids, as it teaches them to stand up for themselves.

They get into different stories and successfully find an individual solution for each of the situations. It perfectly reflects the social side of our life. 20 fascinating cartoons for boys

Despite the name of the collection, just in case, we remind you that gender stereotypes are bad, and a child can love anything, and that’s fine. But it is these cartoons that boys really like, although girls will probably watch them with pleasure.

1. Robin Hood

Robin Hood

  • USA, 1973.
  • Animated adventures.
  • Duration: 83 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7.6.

The weak-willed and cowardly Prince John, mentored by the sly adviser Sir Hiss, dishonestly occupies the English throne. The only one who can resist the tyrant is the noble forest robber Robin Hood.

Due to low budgets, the animators had to reuse footage from previous Disney films. There are many examples on the web (say, in this video) of how entire scenes were copied. But this can be explained by the huge responsibility and burden that fell on the shoulders of the animators, because after the release of Sleeping Beauty, half of the department was dismissed in order to save money.

By the way, the image of Robin Hood and the bright green color of his clothes many years later formed the basis of the character Nick Wilde from the cartoon «Zootopia».

2. The Fox and the Dog

  • Animated adventures, drama.
  • Duration: 83 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7.3.
  • A compassionate widow finds Tod, an orphaned fox cub, and takes him to her farm as a pet. Meanwhile, Cooper the puppy is maturing in the neighborhood. The fox and the dog should be enemies, but fate decreed otherwise.

In Daniel P. Mannix’s original book, the ending was so tragic that the cartoon ended differently. However, the traditional Disney happy ending is still not worth waiting for. Later, the second part was also released directly on DVD with low-quality animation and a strange plot, which is by no means necessary to watch.

    3. Flight of Dragons

    The Flight of Dragons

    • USA, UK, Japan, 1982.
    • Animated adventures, fantasy.
    • Duration: 95 minutes.
    • IMDb: 7.7.

By the will of the Green magician Carolinua, the poor scientist and inventor Peter Dickinson finds himself in a fairy-tale land where good wizards and dragons live. The main character is not there by chance: he has to defeat the evil sorcerer Omaddan. The only trouble is that Peter accidentally turns into a dragon.

    4. Lords of time

    Les maîtres du temps

    • France, Hungary, Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland, 1982.
    • Animation fiction.
    • Duration: 75 minutes.
    • IMDb: 7.5.

The little boy Piel finds himself all alone on the abandoned planet Perdida. His father’s friend Jaffar rushes to the rescue. The astronaut will have to overcome many trials and fight not only for the life of Piel, but for the whole planet.

The outstanding French animator René Laloux made only three full-length cartoons: «The Wild Planet», «Lords of Time» and «Gandahar. Light years. Nevertheless, his work influenced many directors and animators, including the great Hayao Miyazaki.

In addition to Laloux, the famous comic book artist Jean Möbius Giraud also worked on The Lords of Time. The result was a film that became something like the Soviet “Secrets of the Third Planet” in France.

    5. The Black Cauldron

    The Black Cauldron

    • USA, 1985.
    • Animated adventures, fantasy.
    • Duration: 80 minutes.
    • IMDb: 6.4.

The swineherd boy Taran discovers that his prize pig Hen Wen knows the location of the legendary Black Cauldron, which, in the hands of the evil Horned King, can destroy the country.

The commercial failure of The Black Cauldron nearly brought Disney Studios to the brink of bankruptcy. After that, the company had to abandon the experiments and return to the time-tested model. The result of this decision later became the legendary «The Little Mermaid».

Despite the general shortcomings, the cartoon is interesting primarily because it shows the gloomy side of the studio’s work. Take, for example, the terrifying image of the Horned King, voiced by John Hurt, and a horde of zombie killers. Coincidence or not, but among the animators working on the picture was a young Tim Burton. True, his drawings did not pass internal censorship, so they were not used.

    6. Star Patrol: The Legend of Orin

    Starchaser: The Legend of Orin

    • USA, 1985.
    • Animated adventure, science fiction.
    • Duration: 100 minutes.
    • IMDb: 6.6.

Deep underground, people who have never seen the sunlight and are at the mercy of the cruel lord Zygon work. This continues until one of them (Orin) unearths the hilt of the legendary sword. The young man opens up a new incredible world, which turns out to be much larger than he could have imagined.

«Star Patrol» collected a modest box office and went almost unnoticed at the box office. Meanwhile, this is one of the first animated films released in 3D.

    7. Treasure Island

    • USSR, 1988.
    • Animated adventures.
    • Duration: 107 minutes.
    • IMDb: 8.4.

A mysterious guest rents a room at the Admiral Benbow Inn. It soon turns out that this is an experienced pirate Billy Bones, who knows where the legendary Captain Flint buried countless treasures. By chance, a map indicating the location falls into the hands of a young inn manager named Jimmy.

Soviet cinematographer David Cherkassky was a real innovator of his time. For example, in Treasure Island, hand-drawn animation was supplemented by live actors, and in his own Adventures of Captain Vrungel, footage from the real sea was used.

The cartoon is based on the novel by Charles Dickens «The Adventures of Oliver Twist», but at the same time all the main characters in it have become animals, and the action has been moved to a noisy and colorful New York 1980s.

  • A dog named Charlie dies in a fight with an evil pit bull and goes to heaven. True, in heaven he lingers for a short time, having found a not entirely honest way to return back. After a series of incredible adventures, the dog meets the little orphan Anna-Maria, who has the amazing ability to talk to animals.

Legendary animator Don Bluth deliberately chose a rather provocative title for his film. He liked that it changed the attitude towards the cartoon even before watching it.

    10. Balto

    Balto

    • USA, 1995.
    • Animated adventures.
    • Duration: 71 minutes.
    • IMDb: 7.1.

Balto, a selfless half-breed dog, goes in search of a lost diphtheria drug team. In this dangerous event, he is helped by the goose Boris, the beautiful husky Jenna and young bears.

Produced by Steven Spielberg, the cartoon was released at about the same time as the revolutionary Toy Story and therefore did not have much commercial success. Interestingly, Balto’s story is based on real events. The brave sled dog, which saved the lives of hundreds of people, even had a monument erected in New York’s Central Park.

  • Boy Andy doesn’t know that his toys come to life when he turns away. The owner’s favorite for a long time was the cowboy Woody. But one day, the self-confident space ranger Buzz Lightyear appears in the room, and Woody fades into the background and begins to lose credibility.

«Toy Story» can safely be called a turning point in the development of animation. Pixar’s groundbreaking project is the first full-length 3D cartoon entirely created on a computer. In addition, the picture remarkably reveals the theme of the conflict between traditions and high technology and simply pleases the audience with a touching story about friendship, mutual assistance and trust.

    12. Atlantis: The Lost Empire

    Atlantis: The Lost Empire

    • USA, 2001
    • Animated adventures.
    • Duration: 95 minutes.
    • IMDb: 6.9.

The young scientist Milo Tetch is passionate about the idea of finding Atlantis that disappeared without a trace. He tries long and unsuccessfully to convince the scientific community to sponsor a research expedition, until the eccentric Mr. Whitmore comes to the rescue. Thanks to his patronage, Milo finally gets a chance to solve the mystery of an ancient civilization, and even as part of a high-class team aboard a submarine.

«Atlantis» is often included in the list of undeservedly forgotten Disney treasures along with «The Black Cauldron», «Rescuers in Australia» and «Treasure Planet». The cartoon came out at the wrong time, when trendy 3D graphics began to supplant classic hand-drawn animation, and predictably failed at the box office.

    13. Monsters, Inc.

    Monsters, Inc.

    • USA, 2001.
    • Animated adventures, comedy.
    • Duration: 92 minutes.
    • IMDb: 8.0

The action takes place in the city of Monstropolis, where children’s screams are used as a source of electricity. But one day, the usual way of life of the best employee of the company Sally and his resilient friend Mike Wazowski collapses: due to confusion, a little girl gets into Monstropolis. Now terrible troubles threaten not only the main characters, but the whole world of monsters.

Monsters, Inc. came out in the same year as Shrek and eventually lost the last Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Perhaps it was the Pixar cartoon that would have won then, if there had not been such a strong competitor. However, the defeat did not prevent the «Corporation» from collecting almost half a billion box office at the global box office.

Later, the cartoon got a prequel called «Monsters University», which tells the story of the formation of Mike and Sully’s friendship.

    Treasure Planet

    Treasure Planet

    • USA, 2002.
    • Animated adventures.
    • Duration: 95 minutes.
    • IMDb: 7.2.

An inquisitive teenager Jim involuntarily gives his mother a lot of trouble and grief. The situation takes a very unpleasant turn when their small inn «Admiral Benbow» is raided by space pirates, and Jim is in the hands of a holographic map of the galaxy indicating the location of the fearless Captain Flint’s semi-legendary treasure planet.

The creators of the cartoon Ron Clements and John Musker have been trying for a long time to convince Disney to launch an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous adventure novel Treasure Island. And they even agreed to work on Hercules first for this. Only then the project was given the green light.

Combining classic hand-drawn techniques with 3D animation created incredibly epic scenes. But even a beautiful visual did not help Treasure Planet to collect a large box office. The cartoon failed miserably at the box office, although it was nominated for an Oscar (though it lost to Miyazaki’s Spirited Away).

  • IMDb: 6.7.
  • To save the life of a friend, the adventurer and rogue Sinbad must find and return a priceless artifact — the Book of Peace. The problem is that behind the kidnapping is a beautiful and very dangerous goddess of Chaos named Eris.

Unfortunately, this fairy tale hit the screens at a very unfortunate time. The era of traditional two-dimensional animation was over, so Sinbad was a huge box office failure. Only years later, the tape was remembered and its merits were recognized.

    16. Cars

    Cars

    • USA
    • Animated adventures.
    • Duration: 112 minutes.
    • IMDb: 7.1.

An arrogant sports car named Lightning McQueen gets lost on the way to the final race and accidentally ends up in the godforsaken town of Radiator Springs. There, the hero immediately manages to mess up, so the locals are not going to let McQueen go until he fixes everything. At first, what is happening infuriates Lightning, but thanks to his new friends, he soon realizes how empty his former life was.

«Cars» is often considered one of the weakest Pixar projects. The fact is that the very idea of a world of living cars seemed rather strange to many viewers. And although the first film in the franchise turned out to be quite good, numerous sequels and spin-offs have completely lost the chamber charm of the original.

Instead, Hiccup nurses the baby dragon and names it Toothless. Communicating with a new pet, the hero realizes that dragons are not at all as dangerous as is commonly believed.

«How to Train Your Dragon» is rightfully considered an animated classic and one of the best cartoons from DreamWorks. In total, three full-length parts of the franchise were released (this is not counting several short films and the Dragons series).

    18. Ralph

    Wreck‑It Ralph

    • USA

    • Duration: 101 minutes.
    • IMDb: 7.7.

For 30 years, good-natured bumpkin Ralph has been working as a villain in the Master Felix Jr. arcade game. The problem is that nice guy Felix always gets gold medals and universal love, and poor Ralph is content with silent neglect. In the end, the distressed thug, who, in addition, was not invited to the celebration of the anniversary of his own game, goes in search of fame and recognition in a nearby slot machine.

Hiro Hamada, a teenage genius, lives in the futuristic city of San Fransokyo. A boy who is keen on fighting robots is invited to enter the local university ahead of schedule. Hiro enthusiastically prepares for the entrance test, but a sudden tragedy disrupts his plans and changes his life forever.

«City of Heroes» is loosely based on the 1980s Marvel comic book series of the same name and is a great story about the challenges of growing up and coping with the loss of loved ones. In addition, viewers of all ages will be captivated by the robot Baymax, which looks like a giant marshmallow.

    Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

  • Animated comedy, comics, action.
  • Duration: 117 minutes.
  • IMDb: 8.4.
  • Policeman Miles Morales, the son of a policeman, unwittingly witnesses how the villainous Kingpin launches a collider to open a passage between dimensions. Moreover, he accidentally receives superpowers after being bitten by a radioactive spider. True, the guy does not know how to use them at all, and indeed does not consider himself a hero at all. And then Spider-People from other worlds come to the aid of a teenager. Now they must figure out together how to stop the villain before it’s too late.

Sony Pictures’ massive Alternate Spider-Verse project features a wonderfully told story, impressive visuals, and an incredible amount of gags. But, perhaps, the main advantage of the cartoon is that it will be of interest to both schoolchildren and adult fans of comics, and ordinary viewers for whom Peter Parker was a childhood hero.
