Importance of learning by adding

Math is a fundamental subject, whether kindergartners or high school children. The kindergarten teacher helps their children to recognize the number with fun. The very first step of learning math is additions.

 A kid becomes a master in adding techniques when he understands the quantities and numbers by adding them. Every kindergartner faces difficulties to understand the adding concept in the early stage. Thus, the teacher uses some unique tricks to teach the addition concept by adding two numbers. Start with small adding equations, for instance,

2+2 =4
1+3 = 4

Let’s talk about the «Sheet» space in AutoCAD, creating new sheets and working with them. This AutoCAD material for beginners and more!

AutoCAD provides two workspaces for working with drawings. These are space “Model” and “Sheet” . All constructions are made in the model. And paper space in AutoCAD is used to layout the drawing before printing.

At the same time, it is convenient to draw all objects in the model space with a scale of 1:1, and scale and format the drawing already on the sheets. If you do not know how to perform the simplest constructions in the Model, then check out the list of AutoCAD lessons for dummies on this site.

The transition to the sheet is carried out using the tabs under the graphic area of ​​the drawing. You can create multiple sheets with different layouts. By default, two of them are always created — these are Sheet 1 and Sheet 2.

When you switch to one of the sheet tabs, the dialog box Sheet Setup Manager appears. It serves just to set up sheets before printing.

Close it for now, we’ll look at it in the next lesson.

Now we have a white sheet with a dotted border and a rectangle in which our drawing is located.

The white sheet is our sheet of paper on which everything will be printed. The dotted frame defines the visible printable area. The rectangle with the drawing inside is the viewport.

Viewport is a fixed view of a drawing or part of it from model space. You can capture different views of the same objects. For example, a floor plan with load-bearing walls and partitions. These views can be placed on the same sheet or on different ones. This is a very big plus in using sheets in AutoCAD.

By default, one viewport is already created on the sheet. And the drawing from model space is represented in it at an arbitrary scale.

The viewport rectangle can be enlarged or stretched using grips. And then choose the scale with which the drawing should be presented on the sheet. To do this, select the viewport and set the desired scale. For my example, I will take 1:100.

The layer containing the viewport rectangle can be made nonprintable. The frame itself will remain visible on the sheet, but when printed on paper, it will not be visible. To do this, create a new layer with a name, for example, VE. And click on the print icon at Layer Properties Manager.

It is convenient to first place a frame with a stamp on the sheet, fill in the stamp, make some inscriptions. Then fit the drawing with the desired scale through viewports.

If you need to show some node of the object on the same sheet, then it makes no sense to draw it in the model again with an enlarged scale. It is enough to simply create another viewport and display this node on it with a different scale.

Some difficulties may arise with out-of-scale elements. These include: text, line types, hatching, dimensions, etc. But more about this in the next part of the article about working with sheets in AutoCAD.

Here is my sheet drawing example. I took the frame from the SPDS module, which can be downloaded and installed from the Autodesk website.

Another handy use of layout viewports is the ability to freeze individual layers.

Go to the viewport. To do this, double-click the left mouse button inside the viewport frame. It is marked with a bold line.

And now you can edit the object here.

You are currently in model space. For convenience, you can expand the viewport border to the entire workspace. To do this, click on the «Maximize Screen» button on the status bar. To return to the sheet, click the «Minimize Screen» button.

We need to freeze some of the layers. For example, internal partitions. Click on the freeze layer icon. And the layer seems to disappear. But it only disappears in the active viewport. In the new screen, this layer will already be visible.

Hover your mouse over a tab, for example sheet 1. And right-click. The sheet menu will open. Here, select New Sheet. Specify the name of the Sheet and press «Enter».

You can also create a new sheet in AutoCAD by entering the SLIST command.

You will be prompted on the command line: «Enter the setting for the sheet [Copy/Delete/New/Template/Rename/Save/Set/?] «.

In response to it, indicate the key letter of the call to the required option of the RLIST command.

This way you can copy, delete, rename sheets.

Create merged PDF documents

You can use the Merge Files tool to merge or merge Word, Excel, PowerPoint, audio, video, web pages, or existing PDF files. Before you create a file, Acrobat lets you preview and organize your documents and pages. Unnecessary pages can be deleted. In addition, individual pages from documents can be moved. Acrobat converts the pages of different files into a single PDF document with consecutive pages.

  1. In Acrobat, select «Tools» > «Combine files «. The «Combine Files» interface is displayed along with a toolbar on top.

  2. Drag and drop files or emails directly into the Merge Files interface. You can also select one of the Add Files menu options. Here you can add a folder with files, a web page, any open file, the contents of the clipboard, scanned pages, an email message, or a previously merged file («Reuse Files»).


    If a folder containing other than PDF files is added, other file formats are not added.

  3. Do one of the following.

    Page reordering

    In the Thumbnail view, drag the file or page to the desired position. As you drag between pages or documents, a blue bar moves to indicate the current location of the dragged element.

    Expand pages or collapse a document

    In Thumbnail view, hover over a page or file and click the Expand Pages thumbnail. When expanded, you can easily move individual pages between other pages and documents.

    To collapse pages, hover over the first page and click the document thumbnail Collapse Document.

    In Thumbnail view, hover over a page and click the Zoom thumbnail.

    Delete Pages

    In Thumbnail view, hover over a page and click the Delete thumbnail.

    File sorting

    To sort the list, click the name of the column you want to sort by in List view. Click it again to change the sort order. The order of the files in the list corresponds to their location in the merged PDF.
    When sorting, the arrangement of pages in the merged PDF changes.

    Move files up or down in the list

    In List view, select the file or files you want to move. Then press the Up or Down button .

  4. Click Options and select one of the converted file size options:

    Smaller file size

    Reduces large images to fit the screen resolution and compresses images using the low quality JPEG algorithm. This setting is suitable for on-screen display, email. mail and the Internet.

    Note . If the original file has already been converted to PDF, selecting the Smaller File Size option will apply the Reduce File Size feature to the file. The Reduce File Size command does not apply if Default File Size or Larger File Size is selected.

    Default file size

    Create PDF files for easy viewing and printing of business documents. For PDF files, the list retains the original file size and quality.

    Larger file size

    Create PDF files suitable for desktop printers. Applying the High Quality Print conversion style, the PDF files in the list retain their original size and quality.


    This setting may increase the size of the resulting PDF file.

  5. In the Options dialog box, specify the desired conversion settings, and then click OK .

  6. Arrange the pages, then click the Merge button.

    The status dialog box shows the progress of the conversion process.
    Some native applications start and close automatically.

Inserting one PDF document into another

  1. Open the PDF file to be used as the basis for the merged file.

  2. Select Tools > Arrange Pages . The Arrange Pages toolbox is displayed on the secondary toolbar.

  3. On the secondary toolbar, select Insert > From File .

    You can also right-click a page and select Paste Pages to display pasting options.

  4. Select the PDF file you want to insert and click Insert .

  5. In the Insert Pages dialog box, choose where you want to insert the document (before or after the first, last, or specified page). Press button OK .

  6. To save the original PDF document as a separate file, select Save as and enter a new name for the merged PDF file.


You can also add the current file to an open PDF document. Drag the file icon directly to the Page Thumbnails panel in the Navigation Pane.

Adding a custom page to a PDF document

You can add a custom page to your PDF using the built-in Adobe Express application, which offers thousands of templates to choose from when you merge files in Acrobat.

  1. Open the PDF file in Acrobat and click «Combine Files» in the right pane.

  2. On the Merge Files toolbar, click Add Custom Page. .

  3. A new window opens with options for editing the page using Adobe Express.

    Select the template you want to use for the new page and use the edit controls to change any colors or text to your liking.

    When you have finished setting up the page, click the Add button to add the page to the PDF file.

  4. The page will be added to the PDF. The added page can be dragged to the desired location in the PDF file.

  5. Click Edit if you want to make additional changes to the new page. The editing panel will open. Click the Save button when you’re done. Updates appear in PDF format.


    After saving the PDF, you will not be able to edit the added page by opening the Adobe Express application from within Acrobat.

  6. Click Merge and save the PDF. This will complete the changes on your new page and you won’t have access to the Edit on this page option in the future.

Paste clipboard contents into a PDF document (Windows)

You can paste one or more pages of content copied from any application into an existing PDF file.

  1. Open a document that contains the data you want to add to the PDF file. Select and copy the contents (in most applications, this is done by selecting the menu item Editing > Copy file to clipboard ).

  2. Open the PDF file to be used as the basis for the merged file.

  3. Select Tools > Arrange Pages . The Arrange Pages toolbox is displayed on the secondary toolbar.

  4. On the secondary toolbar, select Paste > From Clipboard .

    You can also right-click a page and select Paste Pages to display pasting options.

  5. In the Insert Pages dialog box, specify where you want to insert the selection (before or after the first, last, or specified page). Press button OK .

  6. To save the original PDF document as a separate file, select Save as and enter a new name for the merged PDF file.

Insert a web page or blank page in PDF

You can insert a web page into an existing PDF document by selecting Tools > Arrange Pages > Insert > Insert from Web Page . A dialog box will appear asking you to enter the URL of the page you want to add.

You can also add a blank page to a PDF document by following these steps:

You can embed PDF in other file types that support Object Linking and Embedding (OLE), such as InDesign® or Word files. Such files are called container documents OLE. Later, when you edit the original PDF file, the OLE features in the container application update the embedded file in the container document to reflect the changes.

  1. Do one of the following.

    • Select Insert Object or Insert Hyperlink in an OLE container application.

    • (Windows) In Acrobat, select Editing > Copy file to clipboard , then in the container application, select Paste Special .
