Important facts about addition and subtraction of fractions for grade 5
One very importance of fractions is that it helps kids understand the nature of numbers and their interactions in a special way.
To this effect, our fractions exercises have been designed in way to provide an enriching experience of basic essentials of number theory, such as finding the LCD, GCF, Prime factorization.
Free fun models — quick mastery add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators
Available in our addition and subtracting fractions grade 5 worksheets are free fun models helpful for kid’s quick mastery add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators.
To begin with, you’ll discover here that our exercises are full of exciting models such as add and subtract unlike fractions using models, add and subtract like fractions using number lines, add and subtract fractions in recipes etc.
All these fun models and word problems will greatly enrich kid’s reasoning skills as they’ll now be able to visualize and solve problems of add and subtract fractions more clearly and accurately.
Secondly, you’ll equally find in our add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators exercises helpful tips for easy calculations.
- Fractions with like denominators are very easy to add or subtract. You simply need to add or subtract the numerators and write the sum over the common denominator.
- Whereas before you add or subtract fractions with unlike denominators, you must first of all find equivalent fractions with the same denominator
Example:
Find the LCM of both fractions;
5/6 + 1/3 (LCM of 6 and 3 is 6)
Divide the LCM by the denominator of each fraction. Get the result, and then multiply by the numerator. → 5/6 + 2/6
When the results of the fractions have been gotten, then you can now add or subtract those results normally to obtain your final answer.
Your new answer will now be the numerator, while the found LCM will be the denominator.
So, 5/6 + 2/6 = 7/6

Parents and education
Vladimir Zelensky was born on January 25, 1978 in Krivoy Rog (Ukrainian SSR). The father of the future president was a mathematician and programmer, and later a professor at the Krivoy Rog Institute of Economics, Zelensky’s mother had an engineering education.

He studied at a school with in-depth study of the English language, during his school years he was engaged in wrestling, dancing, learned to play the piano, took part in amateur performances. In 1995-2000, he studied at the Krivoy Rog Institute of Economics of the Kyiv National Economic University, received the specialty of a lawyer, but did not work in it.
«Kvartal-95», career as an actor and comedian
In the 11th grade of the school, he began to play in KVN, creating his own school team. After school, he became a member of the Zaporozhye — Krivoy Rog — Transit team, whose members, together with Zelensky, created at 1997 year team «95th quarter». The team, in which Zelensky was the captain and one of the main authors of the numbers, performed in the Higher League of KVN, its members often came to Russia and performed in Moscow, and in 2002 she became the semi-finalist of the league.
In 2003, on the basis of the team, the creative studio «Kvartal-95» was created, which is engaged in the production of films, scripts, television shows, musicals and concert activities. Since 2004, the studio and Zelensky have been preparing the comedy TV show Evening Quarter, which is launched on the Inter TV channel in 2005. The co-owner of the studio, Zelensky, was the host of the Evening Quarter, the author and one of the actors. The show with elements of political and social satire quickly gained popularity in the country.
Since its founding, the studio has produced dozens of TV shows and TV shows (some of them continued to be released in 2022), more than 30 TV films and series, four documentaries and ten films.
Zelensky and the Servant of the People TV series
One of the studio’s most successful projects was the TV series Servant of the People, directed by Alexei Kiryushchenko and shown on TV channels in 2015-2019. The political comedy, consisting of three seasons, could also be watched in Russia. The film tells about a school history teacher from Kyiv, Vasily Goloborodko, who accidentally becomes president.

According to the plot of the first episode, Goloborodko, played by Zelensky, gives a monologue at school about problems with corruption and the economy in Ukraine. It is recorded on a smartphone by one of the students, after which the video appears on the Internet and becomes viral. Goloborodko has support, he agrees to run in the presidential elections and wins. In the future, the film tells about the struggle of Goloborodko as president with the established system of corruption, the influence of the oligarchs, the former elites and problems in the law enforcement system. Having become president, Goloborodko rides a bicycle to work, the film series begins with this trip.
The slogan of the Servant of the People series is «The Story of the Next President.»
From 2004 to 2019, Zelensky starred in almost 20 films as an actor, was a screenwriter for a dozen films, and produced dozens of films. He worked as a dubbing actor, voiced, in particular, Paddington Bear in two parts of the film by British director Paul King (2014 and 2017). In 2018, the romantic comedy «I, you, he, she» was released, the film was directed by Zelensky, the film was shot in Russian and dubbed in Ukrainian.
Politician’s career
Zelensky actually started his political activity during the protests in Ukraine in 2013-2014, supporting the activists protesting on Independence Square in Kyiv in public statements. Later, after the outbreak of the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea to Russia, he supported the actions of the Ukrainian army: he met with the military, including those wounded in hospitals, held concerts for them, and also donated funds to equip volunteer battalions.
Due to the deterioration of Russian-Ukrainian relations, the creative projects of the Kvartal-95 studio in Russia were suspended.
In 2016, Zelensky creates his own party. Initially, it is called the «Party of Resolute Changes», but in 2017 it receives the name from the TV series — «Servant of the People». At the end of 2018, Zelensky announced the party’s intention to participate in the parliamentary elections, and on the evening of December 31, 2018, a few minutes before the New Year, Zelensky delivered a televised address to Ukrainians on one of the channels and announced his intention to run for president.

President of Ukraine
On January 21, 2019, the Servant of the People party at its congress officially nominated Volodymyr Zelensky as a candidate in the presidential elections scheduled for March 31 of the same year. At that time, in the ranking of contenders for the presidency, Zelensky was in second place after the leader of the Batkivshchyna party, Yulia Tymoshenko, for whom 19 were ready to vote..3%. 12.9% were going to support Zelensky, the third was the leader of the Opposition Platform — For Life association Yuriy Boyko with 11.6%.
During the election campaign, Zelensky called the end of the conflict in the Donbass, the restoration of the country’s economy, the fight against corruption and increasing the transparency of government agencies as the main goals as president. He stated that the Minsk agreements did not work, but promised not to try to solve the problems by military means. He was going to settle the conflict through negotiations.
In the first round of elections, Zelensky won 30.24%, almost twice as much as incumbent President Petro Poroshenko (second place with 15.95%). In the second round on April 21, 73.22% of Ukrainians who came to the polls voted for Zelensky.
Even before officially taking office, Zelensky announced that he intended to settle the conflict in the east of the country and work on it in various formats, including the Normandy format, as well as to exchange prisoners and prisoners with Russia and the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass. In addition, the president-elect promised to study the language law adopted and signed by Poroshenko in the last days of his presidency, which secures the status of the state language and de facto mandatory in many areas for the Ukrainian language. Despite the promise, neither Zelensky, being a bilingual politician, nor his faction in the Verkhovna Rada made changes to the law. However, in July 2019year, the President allowed the special status of the Russian language in the Donbass.

The day after his inauguration, Zelenskiy dissolved the Verkhovna Rada and called snap elections. He explained his decision by the extremely low confidence of the country’s citizens in the parliament. Contrary to forecasts, the Servant of the People party won the majority of seats in the elections. Thanks to this, for the first time in the years of independence in Ukraine, the formation of a government did not require the creation of a parliamentary coalition.
At the beginning of his presidential term, Zelensky named administrative reform and the removal from the office of the president of tasks that duplicate those of the cabinet of ministers, auditing government agencies and fighting corruption as priorities. At the same time, the new president did not go for the artificial reduction of energy tariffs and the withdrawal of parliamentary immunity, which a significant number of voters expected from him.
In early 2021, Zelensky announced the launch of a campaign against the oligarchs, promising to make Ukraine “a country for 40 million, not hundreds of Forbes.” In June 2021, he submitted a law to the Rada, which proposed the creation of a register of representatives of large businesses that influence politics and the media. It was proposed to regulate and control their contacts with officials. Parliament adopted the law “on oligarchs” in September, it came into force in November 2021.
One of the main problems of Ukraine during the years of Zelensky’s presidency continued to be the situation in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, on the territory of which a military conflict began in 2014 and the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics were proclaimed.
On July 11, 2019, the first telephone conversation between Zelensky and Vladimir Putin took place, the presidents discussed the situation in Donbass and the exchange of “detainees”.

Normandy format settlement in Ukraine
On July 8, 2019, Zelensky approached Putin via social networks with a proposal to invite the United States and Great Britain to participate in negotiations on the Normandy format settlement (Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France).
Contacts in the «Norman format» between the countries intensified, agreements were reached on a truce and the exchange of detainees, in Ukraine a law on the special status of self-government in the Donbass was adopted and entered into force. At the same time, Zelensky insisted on restoring Kyiv’s control over the lost territories, declared disagreement with the Minsk agreements concluded by the former president of Ukraine and proposed changing them.
For the first and only time, Zelensky met with Putin at the Normandy Four summit in Paris on December 9, 2019. At the end of the meeting, the leaders confirmed their intention to fulfill the previously agreed agreements, but one of the main points of disagreement — fixing the special status of the Donbass republics in the Ukrainian Constitution — remained unresolved. Zelensky said after this meeting that he would not agree to change the Constitution and would not allow the federalization of Ukraine. Thus, it was not actually possible to come close to resolving the conflict.

Zelenskiy began speaking out more strongly against the Minsk agreements in 2020, saying he disagreed in principle with some of their provisions, in particular the demand to hold elections in the DNR and LNR before the transfer of control to Ukraine. He also proposed changing the procedure for the disengagement of forces in the conflict zone, involving the OSCE process in verification.
Domestically, Zelensky has been criticized and accused of making excessive concessions to Moscow on the Donbas issue. In particular, he came under criticism after the negotiations managed to agree on the creation of an advisory council that would facilitate direct contacts between the Ukrainian authorities and Donbass. Zelensky was accused of betraying the interests of the country and capitulation.
In May 2020, the President signs the Euro-Atlantic integration program for Ukraine, in which the country’s strategic goal is «compliance with the main criteria for acquiring full membership in NATO and the EU.» At the end of March 2021, Ukraine confirms its course towards NATO membership in the military security strategy approved by Zelensky. And in June, the President of Ukraine gives an interview to the German publication Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, in which he calls Russia a threat both to Ukraine and Europe and asks to start supplying defensive weapons and providing military assistance.
Before the start of the Russian special operation, Zelensky made his last statement about contact with Russian representatives on the issue of Donbass on November 26, 2021, telling reporters that the head of his office, Andrei Yermak, intends to contact Dmitry Kozak, deputy head of the Kremlin administration. At the same time, the President announced his desire to restart the negotiation process.
Since the fall of 2021, tensions have begun to rise in Donbass, the parties accuse each other of preparing provocations and aggression. Since November, the Western media, citing sources in intelligence structures, began to publish reports about the preparations in Russia for an invasion of the territory of Ukraine and to name its various dates. In December, Bild published a map of how events could develop. In Russia, this information was denied, Zelensky himself stated that he saw no signs of preparation for such actions, and called the invasion unlikely.
Military operation in Ukraine
In February 2022, the DPR and LPR announced a threat from Ukraine and announced an increase in the number of attacks. The republics announced the evacuation of residents to Russia and general mobilization.

On February 21, after the requests of the heads of the republics Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik, Russia recognized their independence, the decision was made by Vladimir Putin. A day later, he clarified that Moscow recognized the DPR and LPR within the borders of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions of Ukraine. After that, friendship and cooperation agreements were concluded with the DPR and LPR, and after that, the Russian parliament allowed the use of the Russian Armed Forces outside the country.
Prior to this, Zelensky had stated that recognizing the DNR and LNR would mean Russia’s «unilateral withdrawal» from the Minsk agreements, but assumed that Moscow would not take such a step.
Against the background of reports about the possibility of military action by Russia, Zelensky on the evening of February 23, a few hours before the special operation, made a video message to the Russians in Russian. He said that Kyiv «does not need a war, neither cold, nor hot, nor hybrid», but in the event of an attack, the Ukrainians will defend themselves. He also said that he requested a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin, but did not receive a response.
After the start of the Russian military special operation on the night of February 24, Zelensky made a video message to the citizens. He announced the imposition of martial law (which was extended several times), asked the population not to panic, and said that he had discussed the incident with US President Joseph Biden, who promised him to start «gathering international support.» On the same day, February 24, Zelensky announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Russia.
After the start of the special operation, there were reports that Zelensky had left Kyiv. In particular, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said on February 26 that the President of Ukraine had left for Lvov. On March 4, a speaker on Telegram wrote that Zelensky was already in Poland. Zelensky’s office denied both the first and second statements, noting that the president would remain in Kyiv “until the very end.” ABC TV channel and NBC correspondent Richard Engel, citing sources, reported that the US authorities urged Zelensky to evacuate to Lviv for security reasons. Commenting on the reports, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that Zelensky was not going to leave the country even if the situation deteriorated.
The fact that Zelensky was offered to leave Kiev was stated by the authorities of the United States, Turkey and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who spoke about the offer of asylum to Zelensky’s family in the United Kingdom.

On February 25, Zelensky published a video in which he, along with associates Denys Shmygal, head of the presidential office Andriy Yermak, adviser Mykhailo Podolyak, and head of the Servant of the People faction in the Verkhovna Rada David Arakhamia, are on a street in the center of Kyiv and say that he is in the capital of Ukraine. At the same time, in March, Zelensky admitted that on February 24 he was recommended to leave the country within three days, he received calls with such a request «every ten minutes.»
Both Zelensky and his administration almost immediately after the start of the Russian special operation declared their readiness for peace negotiations, including on the neutral status of Ukraine. Zelensky has repeatedly called on Vladimir Putin to hold direct negotiations, believing that a solution to the conflict can only be found at a personal meeting of the presidents. Moscow replied that the leaders could meet only after the delegations worked out a specific document ready for signing.
During the special operation, Zelensky significantly increased his media activity: almost daily he recorded video messages for the Telegram channel, social networks and TV channels, met with journalists, held press conferences, spoke online to parliamentarians from different countries, to students, in international organizations. Zelensky’s speeches were broadcast even at the Grammy ceremony in Las Vegas.
The British newspaper Times reported on March 3 that in the week preceding this date, three assassination attempts were prepared on Zelensky, but they were discovered and prevented.

Zelensky is married (since September 2003), he has two children (Alexandra, born in 2004, and Kirill, born in 2013).
President’s wife Elena Zelenskaya (before her marriage Kiyashko, 1978 years of birth) before becoming the first lady, she was the author and screenwriter of the Kvartal-95 studio. Colleagues at the studio called her the link between the writing team of the association. Zelenskaya became one of the co-authors of the script for the comedy musical Like Cossacks, which was released at the end of 2009, as well as a co-author of the script for the series Servant of the People. Zelenskaya largely developed the image of the teacher Goloborodko, who became the president of Ukraine in Servant of the People.

Denis Pushilin discussed with farmers the situation with the harvesting campaign and problematic issues in the agricultural sector
27.07.23
On Wednesday, July 26, Acting Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin held a working meeting with representatives of large agricultural enterprises on the issues of the harvesting campaign in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
Participated in the event and. O. Deputy Chairman of the Government of the DPR — Minister of Agro-Industrial Policy and Food Artem Kramarenko.
“Good to see you! We are located on the territory of the Volnovakha region, one of the most difficult for us in terms of the fact that there is a very large amount of unexploded ordnance here. Enormous work has been done in order to sow and have the opportunity to develop agriculture in this area” , Denis Pushilin noted.
He stressed that, despite all the difficulties, they managed to launch the agricultural sector in the Volnovakhsky district.
“The sown fields are being harvested as scheduled. Again, with difficulties: the weather makes its own adjustments. We see everything, we understand everything.
I should note that some areas, such as Pershotravnevy, harvest, as they say, Stakhanov’s pace. But there initially were favorable conditions. At least in terms of clearance.
Our main task is to fully provide ourselves with agricultural products, enter the domestic Russian markets and, which is especially important in the context of the unprecedented sanctions war that is unleashed against us, to do everything possible and impossible for this.
Now the situation has changed in the sense that we, like other constituent entities of the Russian Federation, have opportunities in terms of state support measures. Not all of us have learned how to use them yet, not everything is implemented — there is a step-by-step process, and the Ministry [of Agro-Industrial Policy and Food] is trying to make every effort here. For my part, where I can penetrate, where I can turn on, I also do it” , — said the head of the region.
It is necessary to pay more attention to the development of agriculture, in particular animal husbandry, and food security in general, the leader of the Republic emphasized.
“I am sure that we already have a very good groundwork to improve our performance every year. Yes, and the front line will move away, and there will be additional opportunities in terms of security. Nevertheless, the processes of peaceful development of the agricultural sector must increasingly involve us, our people. And, of course, this should [positively] affect the well-being of our population” , — Denis Pushilin is sure.
According to the head of the region, the situation with equipment is also leveling off.
“Thanks to cooperation with Rosagroleasing, this year in the first half of the year we were able to purchase 61 units of equipment.
About 3,000 units of agricultural machinery, including about 600 combine harvesters, 2,000 tractors and other machines, went into the fields for harvesting.
Of course, the fleet of vehicles needs to be replenished, because we have a little more than 60% in terms of availability. That is, we still have something to strive for. Moreover, it is also necessary to update old equipment, but now we at least have a resource.
At previous meetings, before we became a subject, it was more difficult to bring spare parts, find equipment, and credit mechanisms did not work. Now everything is easier. But this does not mean that you can exhale and work in some kind of relaxed mode. Alas, it is not. But I am sure that we will cope with everything, ” — said Denis Pushilin.
The head of the region gave the floor to Artem Kramarenko, who reported on the situation with the harvesting campaign and problematic issues.
“The Pershotravnevy district was the first to start the harvesting campaign on June 29th. In fact, we entered the harvesting area only on July 12 and stay in it for 14 days.
Features of this year: out of these 14 days, we have six days of rain, high humidity. At the same time, our farms have done quite well this year both in terms of fertilization and plant protection. However, excess moisture today leads to a loss of grain quality. As a result of the hydrodating process, gluten is washed out of the grain, and we, counting on a good harvest of the 3rd class at the beginning of the harvest, are now expecting the 4th class of grain. Moisture in grain up to 19%, gluten dropped to 18%. This is a fairly low figure for us.
We plan to harvest about 217,000 hectares, including 168,000 hectares of winter wheat.
To date, we have harvested 26%, we have harvested about 57 thousand hectares.
The gross harvest of grain and leguminous crops amounted to 198 thousand tons, the average yield was 35.1 centners per hectare. For comparison: last year, on this date, our yield was 27–28 [quintals per hectare].
At the same time, we have good starting conditions for wheat, the average yield is 39 centners per hectare, last year’s figure was about 31–32 [quintals per hectare]. Therefore, there is an expectation for a good harvest. We plan to exceed the planned target — more than half a million grains and leguminous crops, wheat of which — about 480. Almost all available equipment is involved in the harvesting.
This year’s harvest is quite difficult in all respects: the shortage of labor force and equipment. But for now, the only thing holding us back is the weather. We hope that August will be quite hot and will allow us to equalize the situation,” — reported the head of the Ministry of Agrarian Industry.
He said that the cleaning leaders are Pershotravnevy, Volodarsky and Volnovakha districts.
Denis Pushilin discussed with farmers the problems that currently exist in the agricultural industry. Among them are the issues of demining agricultural land, registration of contracts, reimbursement of costs for sowing winter crops, training specialists for the agricultural sector and improving the material and technical base of educational institutions of the Republic.
