Dangerous goods

Goods that may cause harm to human health or life and the environment as a result of a traffic accident. Dangerous goods require strict compliance with the special conditions of carriage regulated by the International Agreement of ADR. The document is valid on the territory of 48 countries, including Russia.

The list of hazardous substances contains more than 3,000 items divided into classes in accordance with GOST 19433-88 (developed in accordance with the requirements of ADR).

Classifier of dangerous goods divides all goods into 9 classes depending on the hazard class and type of goods.

Dangerous goods class 4. Subclasses

Flammable substances and materials (other than those classified as explosives) capable of easily igniting during transport from external sources of ignition, as a result of friction, absorption of moisture, spontaneous chemical transformations, and also when heated.

Divided into 3 divisions

  • Subclass 4.1. Flammable solids that are capable of being rapidly ignited by short-term exposure to external sources of ignition (sparks, flames or friction) and burning actively.
  • Subclass 4.2. Self-igniting substances which, under normal conditions of transport, may spontaneously heat up and ignite.
  • Subclass 4.3. Substances that emit flammable gases when in contact with water.

Examples: aluminum powder, nitrocellulose-based motion picture and photographic film, raw or refined naphthalene, sulfur, coal, activated carbon, wet cotton, fishmeal, unsaturated oil-treated paper, bagasse, waste iron oxide, etc.

Transport equipment for hazard class 4

Vehicles for the carriage of dangerous goods, class 4.

Equipped with the following principles

  • heater switch can be installed outside the driver’s cab;
  • the heater can be switched off from the outside of the cargo compartment;
  • Heating system equipment must not be installed inside the cargo hold;
  • openings for the release of heated air must not be blocked by a load;
  • cargo heating temperature cannot exceed 50°С;
  • the part of the heaters inside the body must be designed to prevent the ignition of an explosive atmosphere;
  • if necessary, ventilation is arranged by natural convection or with the help of fans;
  • The substances carried are packed in such a way that they cannot react chemically with the body material;
  • before loading the vehicle, including the outer surfaces of the body, is thoroughly cleaned from the remnants of the previous cargo and hazardous substances;
  • for goods of class 4. 1, vehicles are equipped with a metal body and a tarpaulin made of non-combustible material;
  • Class 4.2 substances must be of such a mass that their temperature does not rise above 55 degrees;
  • openings for loading and unloading goods of class 4.3 are hermetically sealed to prevent the ingress of moisture and leakage of gas;
  • on the loading doors are inscribed with a height of 25 mm or more: “ATTENTION! NO VENTILATION! OPEN CAREFULLY».

Vehicles are equipped with the following devices:

UOS

Tachograph

Ground button

ABS

The ADR set includes all items that must be mandatory on the vehicle when transporting dangerous goods, in accordance with the requirements of ADR, with the exception of fire extinguishers.
