How to Read Military Time

When keeping hours in this fashion, the day starts at midnight and is written as 00:00. The last minute of the day is written as 23:59, or one minute before the next midnight. Sometimes you may see 00:00 written as 24:00. Both are acceptable.

A usage example showing  the 12 hour clock vs military time would be a time table showing 4:00 pm to 12:00 midnight. This would be written as 16:00 – 24:00. Another example highlighting the difference between the two would be to show that 10:15 am is written as 10:15 in military time but 2:30 pm is written as 14:30.

There are only two things to remember to help you tell military time:

The morning hours are the same. So 1:00 a.m. is the same in both military and civilian time. This holds true all the way up to 12:59 p.m.

For everything after 12:59 p.m., just add 12 to the hours. For example, 2:00 p.m. becomes 14:00 (12+2=14), and 10:00 p.m. becomes 22:00 (10+12=22).

That’s it!

This method of keeping time is most commonly used by the military, government, public transportation, hospitals, meteorologists, astronomers, those employed in emergency services, and also with computers. When speaking in military time, 07:00 may be stated as “zero seven hundred” or “oh seven hundred”. Also, in the military, these time stamps are often written without the colon, so 07:52 would rather be written 0752.

Time stamps referencing Greenwich Mean Time (GMT for short – often interchanged with Coordinated Universal Time/UTC) is denoted by a “Z” at the end, and is written as 0752Z. The local time is denoted by a “J” at the end, and the eastern time zone is denoted by an “R” at the end. Each of the zones have a corresponding letter and name.

History of the 24 Hour Clock (With Easy-To-Read Conversion Charts)

The beginning of the 24 hour clock is rooted in Early Egyptian Culture. Other time keeping systems were in use prior to this period, and continued to be used in the rest of the world for a considerable amount of time after the end of the old Egyptian civilization.

However, it was the Egyptians who were the first to use the 24 hour time period. Their system evolved around the time it took certain constellations to pass through the sky, eventually giving rise to a 360 day year.

In those early days, that method of tracking time made use of what are called temporal hours. Temporal hours reflect the differing amounts of daylight present during different seasons.

To account for this, the actual length of time that the unit “hour” lasted for was altered so that day and night had equal hours. The system was sufficient for measuring seasonal shifts and events that took place over long periods of time, but its usefulness was limited to measuring celestial events that occur every day.

Some time between 147 and 127 BCE, the astronomer Hipparchus, developed the idea of equinoctial hours. These were hours that were equal in length regardless of the season. The length of the hour, 60 minutes, was determined during the equinox, when the periods of day and night are equal. For a long time after the equinoctial hour was created, laypersons continued to use temporal hours in their everyday lives. However, the advent of the equinoctial hour was critical to the advancement of astronomy elsewhere.

Have you ever seen one of these before? A 24 hour clock!

In several countries where 12 hour time keeping is common, time kept this way is often referred to as Military Time. A clock that counts from 0 – 12 twice keeps 12 hour time. It counts 0 – 12 starting at midnight, and then from 0 – 12 again after noon has passed. In places where the 12 hour clock is common, some professions utilize the 24 hour clock because it reduces the chances of confusion resulting from having two iterations of each numbered hour during a day marked by 12 hour time. The United States of America, Great Britain, and English-speaking Canada all use the 12 hour time system.

Disastrous Consequences.

Contemporary purposes for using Military Time are generally situations where a mistake as to the time of an event can have disastrous consequences, or where there is an impediment to observation about where the sun is. Knowing how to read Military Time is critical for people in these situations. For example, Polar explorers and scientists usually use the 24 hour clock because the Sun’s presence in the sky is either attenuated or prolonged beyond what people are used to. Night that lasts all day can be extremely disorienting, and the same goes for daylight, so they need this method of keeping time to really know what time it is. Further, usage is common in hospitals because a mistake as to when an operation is to be performed or medicine is to be given could be lethal, so using it is a precaution. The military also uses 24 hour clocks because of the large number of problems that could be caused by confusion about time. People in militaries are likely to be communicating across time zones, coordinating sensitive activities, and performing highly time-sensitive tasks.

24 hour normal and reverse clock

Clock 24 hour cycle. According to the clock, you can easily see the onset of midday time in the country or city you are interested in. The hour hand repeats the movement of the sun around the earth, or in other words, it projects the movement of the sun’s rays in real time, and since this circle of hours (dial) is tied to 12 o’clock (by midday) by the meridian passing through the city of Vladivostok, then the subsequent movement of the hour hand along circle of hours will also show the onset of noon in one or another longitude.
The watch uses a daily cycle mechanism, the usual (half-day) 12-hour mechanism will not be able to provide relative control over meridian zones.
The watch face has a view of the Northern Hemisphere (SP) side. The hour hand (hand of the clock) characterizes the movement of the sun — which produces its movement in orbit relative to the cities (countries of the world and continents) of the planet «Earth» marked on the dial.
The picture of the dial is attached so that the watch user (customer) can see his meridian above the number 12 (above 12 o’clock) — this is how the watch user and his reference point in daylight hours (daylight hours) and the correct operation of the watch are made. You can visually know the duration
daylight hours in a given period of the month, determine the onset of light and (or) dark time of the day. If desired, you can draw (put marks) on the protective glass of the watch with a marker for the onset of daylight and darkness, dawn and sunset.
In this case, the dial is set for the city of Moscow. For resident users from other cities — we will set the dial according to the meridian that is closer to them or add an additional meridian that will pass through his city, as well as add digital designations for this meridian.
Work with each customer is individual! The cost of the watch (regardless of the changes made) remains the same, namely the one that you see under the picture of the watch you need.
Designer’s services are free of charge!
At the request of the customer, we will remove the meridians and parallels from the dial (if they are not needed).

Geographical clock with the setting of midday time and the passing meridian (at noon relative to local time) for the city of Vladivostok.

On this clock picture → there are clocks adapted for the city of Vladivostok.
Noon on this watch is 12 noon, that is, when the hour hand shows noon on (these) hours, then it will be possible to see the same as the meridian with respect to the binding to the city of Vladivostok, the same will be in the noon interval relative to the time zone.
In other words, we (just on this clock) tied temporary daily shares to the city of Vladivostok. There are four time fractions in a day (MORNING, LUNCH, EVENING AND NIGHT) → so it is commonly believed and now these watches have the opportunity to see (observe) how the celestial body (sun) moves relative to Vladivostok and (or) where the hour hand points, then and it is there that for the moment the time of noon occurs, namely, noon, at which (as was customary before) noon is a part equal to half a day.

In the picture below → You can see a line (in the form of an arrow) that passes through 24 hours and is directed (passes further) through the city of London to the center of the earth’s axis, the North Pole of the planet Earth. On the map of the World, the Greenwich Observatory is located near the city of London, so we shifted the meridian line a little to the right of London, believing that this would be more accurate.

In the picture below → Also, you can partially see how the Meridian line passes when zoomed in on the World map. The initial part of the drawing.

In the picture below → You can see how the Meridian line passes when zoomed in on the map of the World. End part of the drawing.

The picture below → Shows the middle part of the clock circle (dial). On which you can see how the Meridian line passes to the middle part of the Northern policy and the incoming meridian from 12 noon (noon, noon), passing through the city of Vladivostok.

In the picture → The lower part of the clock face is shown in magnification. Where can you see the noon meridian for the city of Vladivostok and the nearby (slightly to the right) city of Nakhodka. The meridian line goes from the Northern policy and comes in 12 hours of the day (noon, noon).

On the last picture → The lower part of the clock face is shown in magnification. Where also, you can consider the noon meridian for the city of Moscow (and also the city of Pyatigorsk) and the meridian line coming from the Northern policy, arriving before 12 noon (noon, noon), through the cities of Moscow, Pyatigorsk and others …

Now the last picture → Shows the midday meridian for the city of Moscow (and also the city of Pyatigorsk), where, as you can see, the Meridian line from the Northern policy comes before 12 noon (noon, noon), passing through the cities of Moscow, Pyatigorsk, etc…

A geographic clock is not only a color and high-quality picture on which a part of the globe is visible with a view of the Northern Hemisphere — it is primarily a measure of time (chronometer or others) by which you can find out the current time and also see in what phase (in what place) above the Earth is a luminary (sun). The hour hand allows you to observe these possibilities, for this, you only need such a watch.

Order a Geographical clock with reference to your longitude (meridian) and reference of your longitude to midday time — so that you can control (observe) in which part of the globe in a given period of time lunch time (noon) has come.
To do this, you need to select such a watch when ordering, and in the note to the order indicate the name of the city to which you will need to bind.

Possibilities of 24 hour clock — why are they better?

To see the full and real time — to better appreciate it

How we see time is how we control it. ..

Everyone knows (this is not a secret) that the time of day has a 24-hour (as is customary) format. How to calculate the time for different things is the business of each person individually. BUT, how to look at a watch with a double standard, calculate the upcoming schedule of your affairs by looking at a watch that has only 12 hours on the dial and which hides the second half of the day from you — is this normal for an adequate person? Build illusions, turn on the imagination, imagining that there are all 24 hours on the dial and continue to fantasize what the daily routine will be (for example) for tomorrow…
No more need for a clock that lies — showing the time from 1 am to 12 noon! Look at your 12 hour clock (half-day clock and you will understand everything).
We have solved this problem related to the double standardization of the analog time display. They patented the idea, informed all the countries of the World about us.

Offered for use by our site, the 24-hour cycle clock displays the true time, they demonstrate specifically each hour that has come, which gives them an advantage in the truthful display (compared to conventional semi-daily 12-hour clocks). The 24-hour clock shows absolutely all 24 hours of the daily cycle, without hiding the real time from its user.
It is better to see time — it means to understand it better (to be aware), and understanding its transience and irrevocable — to appreciate it and use it more competently.

Take a look at the 24 hour clock and you will see that you can easily plan your time based on it. For the eyes, not only the time from 1 hour to 12 hours becomes available, but all (full) daily time in which there are 24 hours. Thanks to the 24-hour clock, the boundaries of the full daily time are now open, and the location of such sectors on the clock as morning (day, evening) and night time or other markings makes it possible to visually control the onset of the moment (hour) desired by the user and without misleading the user as this is usually done by 12 hour clocks.
Example of a double standard 12 hours .
The clock is 12 o’clock, pointing with arrows at 6 o’clock, which can be associated as 18 o’clock, etc. , relative to the rest (out of 12) hour values at 12 o’clock. Missing numbers from 13 to 24 — you need to think out and virtually «revive» them, animating them on a subconscious level (if they are not on the dial, but in reality they (already) have a place to be).
Who was not a child — he does not know how hard it is to get used to the hours that do not exist on the dial of 12 hours from 13 to 24.
Useless and unnecessary actions — a detrimental fruit for a user of 12 hour hours, will no longer affect the one who changed the half-day clock to a 24 hour clock.
Everything is much simpler and more adequate with the «appearance» of 24 hour clocks — no more time confusion!
There may be an opinion that it will be difficult and inconvenient to use such a watch — this opinion is erroneous, since it is enough to look at the watch carefully once, having studied the structure of the dial (how the numbers are located relative to the time of day) and understand where the hour hand, minute and second are, what will be deposited in memory, and just as the understanding of the work of 12 hour clocks took place, so these hours will be deposited in memory.

Use of watches in everyday life

Available watch options with different information on the dial.
For example.
Presence of sectors of the time of day as, Morning, Day, Evening and Night, which have borders and are separated by lines.
Depending on the watch model, the arrangement of hour symbols may have different options, such as 24 hours — located at the top and 12 hours at the bottom of the dial, and there may also be a different arrangement with no hour symbols 12 and 24 hours. ..
For a quick reading of the time, we have added black and white and color sectors to the dials (of some models), in the color of the case for a more harmonious and aesthetic look.
Also, for faster reading and taking into account the workload of the dial — we created options in which information was minimized — the hour symbols were shortened and replaced with lines (or strokes), and in the minute-seconds scale it acquired the usual classic look.

Application of hours at work

You can order watch :
with its own schedule of working and lunch hours ;
order the desired color of the working time scale and its inscription;
order the desired color for the lunchtime sector and, if desired, add the inscription you need to it;
— add the elements you need to the dial (or remove what is not needed).

Work, like any planned event, begins with the daily routine of working time, which also includes lunch time.
The presented variants of hours have a working time scale and a dedicated lunch time sector in a given labor organization.
The scale with the inscription «Working time» — is created for each customer individually, in accordance with the desired daily routine and lunch time.
The scale, the inscription on it and the «Lunch» sector (it has a yellow color in the picture) — at the request of the customer, they change to the desired . ..
A quick reading of information, whether the working day ends or continues is an indisputable advantage of the watch for employees who work in this organization, as well as visitors to the trading place (office, etc.), who, looking at this watch model, will understand your daily routine and the schedule of your worker. time.
A quick reading of information, whether the working day ends or continues is an indisputable advantage of the watch for employees who work in this organization, as well as visitors to the trading place (office, etc.), who, looking at this watch model, will understand your daily routine and the schedule of your worker. time.
Thus, we manufacture watches in accordance with the work schedule of the customer’s organization. We remind you that you can also be a customer — even if you do not have an enterprise, you can also order watches for yourself, taking into account different times and the schedule you need.

The use of watches in medicine

With the fact that in medicine, the convenience of planning and distributing the time for taking medications, as well as undergoing procedures and injections, is not a joke and requires an exact time schedule, it is clear to everyone.
In , it is used to control time, and control must be carried out within 24 hours , then putting 12 hour clocks on the shelf (so as not to interfere) and armed with 24 hour clocks, we will begin to restore health.
To do this, it is necessary to make marks on the watch glass with a marker — corresponding to the time for injection and (or) taking medication .
There can be a lot of examples, let’s give one example — how you can use a 24 hour clock. It is more convenient to give injections or take medicines according to the marks previously applied to the watch glass. there is no need to remember the right hour and constant monitoring of the notes made earlier in a notebook or on a piece of paper. Since, the clock, with its arrows will indicate to you (or the patient) that the right time has come. 12 hour clocks do not have these properties, because, if you wish to put marks on them, you will also need to sign on the marked hour which hour it is, the first half of 24 hours (from 1 to 12) or the second half of the day from 13 up to 24 hours.
Everything would be fine, but only for those who are sick and need care — remembering and counting time will not be easy if 24 hours are not applied.
The scale of 12 hour hours is folded into two and that is why it is not very rational (not correct) to use such (12 hour — semi-daily) hours in a 24-hour daily cycle.
You need to know that the marks made earlier with a marker are easily washed off with a cloth moistened with soapy water and wrung out (with a cotton swab or napkin). To remove (wash off) marker marks — you can also use napkins soaked in alcohol (or cologne).

Time control in the countries of the World

World time control capability :
— select the meridian passing through the desired region;
— this meridian will indicate the time on the hour scale;
Everything is relatively simple.

The hour hand is made in the form of a circle with a picture (side view) of the Northern Hemisphere (SP) located on it.
Watch 24 watch models: SP-17 mini — Geographical clock with the implementation of the function of time control around the world.
The hour hand is made in the form of a circle (SP) depicting the Northern Hemisphere.
The clock works like this:
— The circle of the hour hand (the SP disk inside the clock) rotates and the meridians located on it (passing from the center of the Northern Hemisphere to the outer edge, through countries and continents) indicate the hour on the watch dial in accordance with its time zone.
— On the circle (which also acts as a clock hand) there is a red meridian and it is wider than
other meridians (its width is from 2.5 to 3 mm) and therefore more noticeable — this is your meridian, which is applied by us in accordance with your coordinates. At what hour it is directed (shows) — this hour
time in your city, on your watch.
— Minute hand — works like in a regular watch, BUT, its course is reversed. On the watch dial — there is a minute-second scale and you can use it to count or control minutes and seconds.
— The second hand — works like in a regular watch, its course is also reversed.
— The red line on the SP (Northern Hemisphere) is the meridian that is applied at the request of the customer regarding his place of residence. According to this meridian, the owner of the clock determines what hour has come in his city.

Advertising and PR (PR)

Placement of clock-calendars, clocks with the logo of the enterprise in the company’s offices, shops (outlets) cafes,
restaurants and other places.
You can give visitors (guests) the opportunity to see your watch (or watch-calendar ), which will not only attract attention, but will once again raise your status in the eyes of competitors, and when placed on the watch face of the product, it will be advertised and the goods itself.
The unusualness of the 24 hour clock will give the visitor (guest) information that cannot be forgotten not in 5 minutes, not in a month, and the guest who left you, when meeting with his friends or work colleagues, will definitely share what he could see unusual (as it seems to him) ) clock, a person is arranged in such a way that he constantly communicates with others and the «rag radio» effect begins to operate. Whoever saw an unusual watch will definitely tell a friend (girlfriend) or within his team that he could see such (unusual) watches at your place.
If the watch will have your logo and be placed (located) in a crowded place (meaning well passable), then watches will be able to advertise your product , but also you (your organization) as a whole (depending on what to place on the dial watches are a product, this is its advertising, and a photo, company name or logo — this will already be PR, PR promotion ).

Stock market players resort to various tricks, such as setting a screensaver on the computer screen for 24 hours, saving on the purchase of 24 hour watches.
(to the detriment of themselves and their money capital) or simply not knowing about their existence. Setting an alarm clock at the right time is a way out of the situation in order to be convinced that the alarm clock will signal for the beginning of the opening session of the desired exchange.
In various ways, you can achieve a result in order to avoid annoying misunderstandings. It is important to choose a method that will not be laborious and acceptable if the player does not have a 24 hour watch.
Moreover, even after certain intervals, they can still get confused about the exchanges and also confuse the time of their opening.
Our watch will come to the aid of a trader (stock player), which will show world time for him in UTS or GMT format.
On the watch glass, you can mark the necessary marks with a marker for the opening and closing of stock exchanges, set the time on the terminal and relax, just control
the desired period of time.

The marker is easily washed off the glass with a cotton ball barely moistened in an alcohol solution, which will make it possible to remove previously marked marks as unnecessary.
