  • A lot of things come back in fashion: clothes, hair styles, music — and, perhaps surprisingly, names for newborns.

As we’re in a new decade, many parents with babies born in the 2020s are expected to name their babies with «vintage names» from the 1920s, due to a theory known as the «100-year rule».

The theory is that it takes around 100 years for baby names to resurface, as parents choose «retro» or more unusual names to help their little one stand out from the crowd.

Experts in the USA have compiled a list of the most popular boys and girls names from the roaring 20s — and it’s expected that many babies born in this decade will have these names, reports the Mirror.

According to the Social Security Administration in the US, the ten most popular names for girls during the 1920s were Mary, Dorothy, Helen, Betty, Margaret, Ruth, Virginia, Doris, Mildred and Francis.

For boys, the three most-popular names 100 years ago were Robert, John and James.

Other popular names included William, Charles, George, Joseph, Richard, Edward and Donald.

While many of the these names are seen as old-fashioned, some of the names further down the list have certainly proved popular in recent years, including Evelyn, Anna, Florence, Faye and Nora for baby girls and Leo, Calvin, Jesse, Archie and Jay for newborn boys.

Some of these were in the top 100 names for babies last year.

Back in December 2019, Babycentre revealed its annual list of most-popular names for babies.

For girls, the most popular name was Olivia, followed by Sophia, Ava and Amelia.

For boys, Muhammad was the most-popular name, followed by Noah and Leo.

The 2018 list also placed Olivia and Muhammad at the top.

A few new baby names also made it onto the charts last year, including Nur at 45th place on the list, Hallie at number 68 and Delilah at number 88.

These new names knocked the names Felicity, Elena and Victoria out of the top 100 names.

In Japan, the number of families with children for the first time fell below 10 million: a study by the Ministry of Health 20%. How can we keep society alive?

According to the 2022 Baseline Survey of Living Conditions compiled by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan, the number of households with children under the age of 18 was 9917,000, it fell below 10 million for the first time since statistics began to be collected in 1986. Such families accounted for 18.3% of the total number of households, falling below 20% for the first time, which indicates a steady decline in the birth rate.

49.3% of households with children said they have one child, 38.0% have two children, and 12.7% of families with children have three or more children. It can be seen that the number of households with one child is decreasing, but the number of families with two or more children is falling even more noticeably.

The National Life Survey began in 1986 to provide the basic data needed to plan and design health, work and welfare administration.
