Baby cartoons shows: Unavailable In Your Region
Posted on6 familiar characters who got their own »spin-off babies» cartoons
Image: The Everett Collection
The «spin-off babies» boom is immediately familiar to anyone who watched cartoons in the ’80s or ’90s. Companies figured out pretty quickly that audiences would respond to cuter, younger versions of the characters they already knew and loved. Plus, a «spin-off babies» show could introduce a new generation to familiar characters in a show specifically aimed at children.
This quickly became a cultural phenomenon — just think of all the shows that have parodied it in some way. In fact, you might be more familiar with some of the parodies than the actual shows!
Here’s just six familiar shows that got the «spin-off babies» treatment… some more successfully than others.

1.
Muppet Babies (1984)
Image: The Everett Collection
Often credited as the series that kicked off the spin-off babies boom, Muppet Babies was inspired by a dream sequence in the film The Muppets Take Manhattan, where Miss Piggy imagines everyone as babies. In the show, the Muppets live together in a nursery watched over by Nanny, voiced by June Cleaver herself, Barbara Billingsley. They use their imaginations to create fantasty worlds, often blended with live-action clips and photography. The show was massively popular and got eight seasons, winning four consecutive Daytime Emmy Awards, and arguably started the whole «babies» trend. The show was rebooted for a short time on Disney Junior in 2018.
2. The Flintstone Kids (1986)
Image: The Everett Collection
Following on the heels of Muppet Babies, The Flintstone Kids is pretty self-explanatory. Fred, Barney, Wilma and Betty (along with puppy Dino) have typical stone-age adventures that range from forming a baseball team to stopping a gem heist. This series is notable for the show-within-a-show, Captain Caveman and Son, where the segments were presented as a show that the kids were watching. Flintstone Kids even got their own anti-drug special, The Flintstone Kids’ «Just Say No» Special in 1988, featuring the voice of La Toya Jackson («La Toya Jackstone».)
3. A Pup Named Scooby-Doo (1988)
Image: The Everett Collection
A Pup Named Scooby-Doo presented the familiar Mystery Machine gang as pre-teens, still solving mysteries together. This would be the last TV show that the original voice of Scooby, Don Messick, would voice before his death. The show was heavily satirical and leaned on the fourth wall — for example, a character named «Red Herring» is falsely accused in almost every episode, or a TV announcer might «interrupt with a special announcement» to point out that Velma just found a clue.
4. Tom & Jerry Kids (1990)
This was an interesting show. The titular segments featued Tom and Jerry as a kitten and a baby mouse, respectively, and recycled much of their dynamic from the original cartoons with the violence toned down for younger audiences. Other segments included «Spike and Tyke» (though they were not younger) and «Droopy and Dripple» about Droopy Dog and his son, Dripple. Additional voices on the show’s four season included names like Tim Curry, Brad Garrett and Sally Struthers.
5. Yo Yogi! (1991)
This unintentional time capsule of a show is peak early Ninties. Yogi Bear is now a totally cool, X-treme teenager along with his friends, who now hang out at Jellystone Mall. They were crime fighters, because of course they were. Magilla Gorilla even appeared as a pop star called — wait for it — «Magilla Ice». It only ran for thirteen episodes.
6. Baby Looney Tunes (2002)
One of the later additions to the «spin-off babies» movement, this show was clearly inspired by Muppet Babies. However, Baby Looney Tunes focused less on fantasy and more on real world lessons and morals for children. June Foray returned to voice Granny, the caretaker of the Looney Tunes. The Tunes were largely the classic set from the original shorts, with the addition of Lola Bunny, who made her debut in 1996’s Space Jam.

20 Heartwarming Episodes To Help Prepare Your Child For A New Sibling
As with so many things, TV can help!
by Sydni Ellis and Jamie Kenney

There’s nothing quite like bringing a new baby into your home. It’s exciting! It’s emotional! It can also be a huge adjustment, and not just for the responsible adult(s) getting up with them every few hours. For older siblings, having a new baby waltz on in can also be exciting, but it can be scary too. They might feel jealous, angry, or just overwhelmed at the big changes happening in their routine. It helps to let them know what they might expect. Fortunately there are lots of great books out nowadays to help parents explain what being a big sibling means. But there are also great kids’ show episodes to prepare for a new sibling. And, since it’s on a screen, they won’t even notice they’re becoming better adjusted: genius!
New babies are often a way to breathe new life into a series, including kids shows. And, fortunately for us, it’s a pretty fun way to help children literally see what’s in store. Moreover — again lucky us — since so many shows are aimed at packaging complex events in a neat, 30 minute window, it’s a good, quick way to get a point across effectively. It may even help them realize feelings they didn’t know they had or couldn’t necessarily express without some help. (Good ol’ TV, always helping us out…)
From cartoons to sitcoms, parents have a wide array of shows to choose from to help their kids in this new role of “older sibling.” Here are some of our favorites.
Arthur
Arthur has two younger sisters, D.W. and baby Kate.Arthur Episodes Tower Channel/YouTube
Season 1, Episode 11 of Arthur is a flashback to when baby Kate was born. The first half of the episode is about how scared and unprepared Arthur felt about having a new baby in the house. But when his mom asked him to watch her for a few minutes and he burped her to stop crying, he felt a sweet bond. In the second half, D.W. recalls how hard it was being asked to share a room with her baby sister, as she cries, has stinky diapers, and seems to get all the attention. This is so relatable — especially when D.W. tries to sell Kate in the family yard sale.

What shows do children around the world watch? Collecting the top ratings
Source: Kirill Petrenko
In 2021, the Russian hit «Masha and the Bear» became the most popular children’s show in the world. Together with VOKA, we looked into the ratings, looked at other audience favorites and found a lot of interesting things: modern stories about hero puppies, the Argentinean adventures of a magician clown and the most popular YouTube channel for younger kids.
Peppa Pig
Now this memetic British series consistently tops the ratings of the most popular children’s shows, and in 2021 it is second only to the Russian hit Masha and the Bear. The cartoon was aired in 180 countries of the world, translated into more than 40 languages and became a real cult in China: due to the inhabitants of this country alone, Astley Baker Davies earned more than $1 billion in 2018.
However, 17 years ago, no one was in a hurry to give the green light to an animated series with a strange, hair dryer-like pig: the producers first of all needed a three-dimensional character that could easily be transformed into any merchandise. A flat pink misunderstanding with eyes on one side of his face looked like a voluntary surrender of all business plans.
However, Nickelodeon managers were not deterred by this, on the contrary, the broadcasting network needed a project that told about the family. Peppa Pig snorted amusingly, plus everything was a girl — at that time, television lacked feminism, although there was already a request.
The adventures of the heroine were taken directly from life by screenwriter Neville Astley, his co-author and director Mark Baker and producer Phil Davis: they listened to the stories of their friend about her little daughter Lily, her relationship with her parents and the world, her favorite games and pranks. The baby also gave Peppa her voice and, in a sense, became a project consultant, for example, she confirmed the idea that it is more pleasant for children to watch cartoons where there is not only a child, but also mom and dad. Time has proven that the authors were not mistaken.
Paw Patrol
The Canadian series about an organized gang of puppies keeping the peace has had no problems from the very beginning: since 2013, the cartoon has steadily gained momentum, the adventures of 10-year-old Ryder and his dogs are watched in 160 countries, which allows him to enter one of the three most popular series for children in the world, and together with merchandise, the franchise brings the creators more than $300 million annually.
The secret of the Paw Patrol can be easily decomposed into ingredients — in this equation there are quite obvious, but brought to absolute execution variables.
The cyclic plot reproduces essentially the same situations every episode: an emergency happens in the town of Adventure Bay, but a squad of dogs from the boy Ryder invariably saves the day. The characters have vivid images, as if invented for Happy Meal toys: a German shepherd — a policeman, a bulldog with an arsenal of construction vehicles, a Dalmatian fireman. At the same time, each dog has a unique transforming booth that also performs the role of transport. Finally, the cartoon is replete with catchy songs and chants — the kids are guaranteed to hum them until they discover modern rap or K-pop.
At the same time, «Paw Patrol» found a way to stand out from the background of peaceful family stories in the spirit of «Peppa Pig» or «Teletubbies»: at its core, it is still closer to an action-adventure movie, where dogs pretend to be real superheroes. The idea, by the way, found a continuation in the recent feature film of the franchise, which, not inferior to the series, performed great at the box office.
Sesame Street
There is nothing like old friends Khryusha and Stepashka, but one cannot fail to recognize the greatness of the Sesame Street puppet show, which has been on screens since 1969 years old: this is the absolute record for the duration among children’s shows. Surprisingly, after more than 50 years, the series is still on the rise and in 2021 ranked fourth in the world ranking of the most popular shows for younger children.
Perhaps not entirely clear to our viewers, the project was developed with a noble goal: the authors of the series, in particular producer Joan Ganz Cooney, wanted to help fill the gaps in the education of children from low-income families. Numerous studies confirm that the Sesame Street team did an excellent job with the task: the guys who are fond of this show perform better in grammar, know more about what HIV and AIDS are, and are much closer to gender equality issues. And these are just a few areas in which the series successfully expands the knowledge and horizons of the audience.
At one time, Sesame Street broke the stereotype that television can only teach children bad things, like beer jingles. While the show explored issues from the school curriculum, it has been fantastically inclusive since its inception, with people of different races, religions and walks of life always having a place on the show. Now you can easily see a drug addicted woman and her child in it — and this is not at all shocking to the audience, because the project has always been a kind of portal to the adult serious world in harmless scenery and plots.
No less important is the fact that the project once launched a fashion for educational children’s shows. And although it has not become a general trend for most companies in the world, the influence of Sesame Street on the industry is still felt.
«CoComelon: Songs for Children»
The top five most popular children’s cartoons of 2021 are closed by the ideological successor to «Sesame Street» in the most modern format. The CoComelon project began to show signs of life in 2006 as a channel on the fledgling YouTube, whose anonymous authors helped children learn the alphabet in a fun way.
After 15 years, the show with the original name ThatsMEonTV has changed names, tried different formats, become the most popular children’s content account on the platform (it now has 119 million subscribers) and expanded its influence to streaming monsters like Hulu or Netflix . And in 2019, the project also acquired a full-fledged series «CoComelon: Songs for Children».
The cartoon immediately became an absolute hit, and in 2020 it became the undisputed leader among children’s shows on Netflix and turned out to be one of the most popular requests on the platform in principle. The transition to another format did not change the concept of CoComelon much — it’s all the same funny poems and songs with educational elements, opening up for children the world of numbers, letters, animal sounds and everyday issues like going to school or kindergarten with all the accompanying adventures. All this is served through a simple plot with the main character JJ and his brothers and sisters.
The show, of course, lacks some extra depth or non-standard experiments: children over 5 years old will surely get tired of the monotonous series with dance songs. But the younger guys are almost impossible to tear off the screen, as the current ratings eloquently report.
«Plim Plim»
This cartoon in the ratings of the most popular children’s shows looks like a curiosity no less than the YouTube project CoComelon: «Plym Plim» began as an Argentinean series of children’s songs, but then quickly grew into a whole series with an unusual hero — a clown and a magician. Over time, there was also a need for duplication into English — the audience continues to grow.
Ideologically, the cartoon is based on the teachings of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, an Indian yogi, spiritual leader and founder of the Art of Living Foundation, and therefore promotes values close to him: honesty, brotherhood, respect for others and the environment in general. This is what the main character of the show, Plim Plim, does, who from series to series consistently comes to the aid of his animal friends and shares with him, and at the same time with the audience, by no means childish wisdom, managing to fit into short 7-minute episodes.
At the same time, of course, Ravi Shankar’s spiritual enlightenment is embodied in simple and understandable situations from the life of preschoolers and does not seek to solve actual adult problems: the show is more interesting to show children how important politeness is than to talk about poverty or midlife crises.
Considering the origin of the series, music invariably plays one of the main roles in it. And while the Western popular scene is reviving the sound of the nineties and zero as much as possible, the creators of the cartoon invented for their show a new musical genre FunKids, which combines the flavor of Argentinean rhythms, Balkan sound, funk drive and the charm of circus music — to match one of the guises of Plim Plim himself .
Disney characters do not have to constantly appear in new topical cartoons in order to be loved by the audience. For example, episodes of The Mickey Mouse Club, the studio’s first attempt at bringing old and familiar characters to the screen with computer animation, aired from 2006 to 2016, but reruns on various services still guarantee the show a place in the top ten global projects for children.
At its core, this cartoon is close to the original stories about Mickey Mouse, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goof and Pluto, but dilutes traditional stories with interactive game moments in the spirit of the good old «Dasha the Traveler». The heroes break the fourth wall literally in every episode, talking to the viewer in a way that Deadpool never dreamed of, and involving children in solving various kinds of problems and mathematical riddles. There are not too many such episodes in 20-minute episodes so as not to overload the guys once again — first of all, the Mickey Mouse Club is about entertainment.
The only thing is that the animation of the cartoon, worthy of its time, no longer seems to be something outstanding — the Disney studio itself has decently raised the bar and the series is obviously inferior to other popular projects of the company.
By the way, The Mickey Mouse Club also has a spin-off for girls — Minnie’s Bow-Toons, or Minnie’s Bow-Toons in the original, which tells about the successes and failures of the character in the field of small business. This show was launched as part of one of the episodes of the main series and was released until 2016.
Thomas & Friends
The first episode of Thomas the Tank Engine was released in 1984, and since then it has entertained children from more than 185 countries for four decades, while continuing to be relevant and insanely popular, not inferior to modern cartoons.
It all started in the 20th century in the Audrey family: both father Wilbert and his son Christopher were big railroad fans. Over time, the head of the family began to compose stories for his child, which grew into a whole series of books. And later, a large-scale epic about living machines of the fictional railway island of Sodor was continued by an already grown up boy.
There have been several attempts to bring stories to the screen: the 1953 Air Force version was especially epic, using model trains that managed to derail during recording and which were returned to the track by a mysterious human hand. The 1984 cartoon also used mockups and miniature cars, but did without incidents and looks great even now. However, over time, as technology began to allow, live action was replaced by 3D animation.
«Thomas and Friends» is also not forever — the last episode of the show was released in January 2021 after 24 seasons of the series. However, children will not be left without railway adventures: in September of the same year, the cartoon was relaunched under the name Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go, with updated two-dimensional animation, more music and a new approach to plot construction. In the new image, Thomas and his fellow trains no longer look so creepy, so it seems that the audience of the series can only expand.

Moscow Conservatory. Big hall.
Moscow State Conservatory. P.I. Tchaikovsky — a unique musical
location of the capital.
September 1, 1866 is considered the opening day, when Nikolai Rubinstein, who achieved
permission to establish a music school in Moscow on the model of the conservatory in
Petersburg, was able to find funds and rent a room. Her first building was the house
Baroness Cherkasova on Vozdvizhenka, and the beginning of the work of the Moscow Conservatory was widely
noted by the Moscow intelligentsia.
The Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory is one of the most famous concert halls in the world.
Beautiful design, convenient location and excellent acoustics have earned him
well-deserved fame as the best concert venue in Moscow and Russia.
The building was built according to the project of the architect V.P. Zagorsky. From an old house built
in this place for Princess E. R. Dashkova at the end of the 18th century, he left only
famous façade with semi-rotunda.
Painted in light colors, the Great Hall captivates with the strict simplicity of its classical
lines and proportions. The best soloists and bands of the world perform here, as well as
international festivals and competitions, among them — the world famous competition named after P.
