Summer Outfits with Walmart | Miss Mustard Seed

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Walmart.  As always, all opinions are honest and my own.

I’ve worked with Walmart here on the blog for several years, sharing things from their home and craft department, but this time I was asked to share items featured in Walmart’s Fashion department.  My days mostly consist of painting, working on my house, gardening, writing, cooking, and taking pictures…so I’m not walking around the house all dolled up.  I’m not sharing my OOTD (outfit of the day) because it’s pretty reliably sweats, a t-shirt, and Crocs.  I do put some jeans on when I go out and I’ll wear tunics and dresses to church, but I’m just not and never will be a fashionista.   But, then I really thought about it and I know that there are many people like me out there and we still need to wear clothes!  We still buy clothes and add some cute things to our wardrobe as well as update staples as needed.

So, this isn’t a post showing you the best, most fashionable way to dress.  This is a post sharing things I found, bought, and enjoy on Walmart.com.  As with decorating my house, I like to take a splurge and save approach when building my wardrobe.  Since Walmart does a great job of balancing price, design, and quality, I’ll peruse their website when I want to add a seasonal article or two or when I need some staple pieces, like jeans and leggings that I can do my work in without worrying about an occasional paint splotch.

The outfit I decided to model for you was this adorable indigo cotton dress with some simple skinny jean capri pants and mustard-colored ballet flats.  (I’m also wearing my Apple Watch with a leather watch band.)

See what I mean?  Jean capris with a dress probably isn’t the latest fashion trend, but I happened to have both of them on together as I was trying everything on and I sort of loved how they looked together!  The dress is long enough that you could wear it as just a dress or put leggings under it.   I always have a cat as an accessory, too.  I’m not into modeling, but Esmé is.

smocked puff-sleeved dress | skinny high-rise capri jeans | mustard ballet flats

I wanted to show the details on this dress because it has the cutest detail on the sleeves and the bodice is smocked.  And it’s made of lightweight cotton that is perfect for summer.

The jean capris are comfortable with a nice stretch and true to size.  I did wash them twice to soften them up because they were a little stiff out of the bag.  They are a good staple jean capri and, for just over $20, they are a good price.

I think the thing I like the best from all of the things I ordered from Walmart were the ballet flats.  I’ve had so much trouble with shoes since I broke my foot last year.  My right foot is now slightly bigger than my left, so a lot of my shoes no longer fit my right foot comfortably.  I also need a flatter shoe that isn’t too molded or I can only wear it for a couple of hours.  These shoes are cute, comfortable, and fit both of my feet because they have some give to them.

I love these shoes so much that I bought the pointy-toed flats in navy as well.  HERE is that link.

I picked out a few other pieces from Walmart.com that I ended up keeping as well and the links are below…

poet tunic | boyfriend crop jeans | 14k gold paperclip necklace

comfy crew neck 3/4 shirt

I bought the shirt above to wear with leggings for bumming around the house.  I like that it is longer and has an A-line shape.  And I got a new pair of Crocs, too.  I wear my lined Crocs most often, but it’s nice to have a pair without the lining that I can wear during the summer and outside at the pool.  THIS is the pair I bought.  After breaking my foot Crocs are the most comfortable shoes for me!  I would probably wear them everywhere if I felt comfortable doing it!

You may notice that almost everything I picked is blue and white.  When we moved last year, I decided to simplify my wardrobe and stick with blue and white with pops of green and mustard.  Most of my clothes fit into that plan, but it was helpful to weed out clothes in other colors.   Since I’m fair-skinned, light-haired, and blue-eyed, blue works well on me, it is my favorite color, and it’s what I wear most, anyway.  Let’s just make it official.  By keeping my wardrobe in that color palette, it means I can mix and match easier and it helps me stay focused when I’m shopping.

If nothing else, I hope this post helps you find a few new favorite things from Walmart.com that you can add to your wardrobe for summer and that you enjoyed Esmé’s modeling!

What to wear to ballet for a girl in winter. After work — for a session

Children

The theater is a special place that requires appropriate clothing. From time immemorial, all the nobility gathered at theatrical performances to amaze everyone with their magnificent outfits. The tradition of wearing the best to the theater has remained to this day.

What not to wear to the theater

Like any cultural institution, the theater requires an appropriate dress code. Of course, there is no strict dress code here, because of which you may not be allowed to the performance, but according to the rules of good manners, you should not wear sports or too revealing things. Sneakers, knitted T-shirts, jeans and tracksuits leave for walking with friends. It is also not recommended to come in very bright club clothes — open short dresses, shiny tops, leopard print and leather leggings. It will look gross.

In addition, your appearance should not cause inconvenience to other visitors. Don’t wear updos that make it difficult for others to see the scene, and keep your long hair up so it doesn’t hurt your neighbors. Wearing stilettos is also not recommended: knocking heels will disturb the audience if you decide to go out during the performance. According to the rules of good manners, they don’t go to the theater in open shoes, and even better, they take a pair of interchangeable shoes with them. This rule is especially true in winter.

Arrive at the theater 15–20 minutes before the performance. During this time, you can calmly hand over things to the wardrobe and put yourself in order.

How to dress for a performance

The dress code largely depends on the time of the performance and the venue. Daytime performances are usually more loyal to the choice of clothing. They are allowed to wear dark jeans, casual dresses and shoes. It is appropriate to come to a dramatic or comedic performance in beautiful but modest clothes. An ideal choice would be a cocktail dress in discreet colors. You can also wear dark tight leggings with a silk tunic, a set of midi skirts with a smart blouse, or straight trousers with a shirt.

Opera houses have stricter dress codes. As a rule, evening dresses with an open neck and back are put on there. The dress must be black, navy blue or red. Sometimes the shoulders are covered with a fur or leather cape-mantilla. Shoes must be heeled or platform. Jewelry is allowed only from precious metals. This outfit is accompanied by a small evening clutch bag. Hair must be beautifully laid in a smooth classic hairstyle.

The theater is a place where people come to enjoy the enchanting atmosphere and the acting. For most people, going to the theater is like a festive event. But you need to remember a number of rules, especially regarding clothing, behavior and appearance.

Theatrical Etiquette

The basic rules of behavior in the theater are known to many. Always arrive at least 20 minutes before the start time to leave your outerwear in the cloakroom and take your seats. If you are late and the third bell has already rung, you will have to go to the upper tier. You can only take your seats after intermission.

Don’t forget other spectators. They, just like you, want to enjoy the performance. Do not pour a lot of perfume on yourself and use strong smells, or do high hairstyles that will obscure the view. Be sure to turn off cell phones so that an inadvertent call does not disturb other viewers or artists. Do not bring food, drinks, packages or large bags into the hall. And, of course, silence must be observed.
In addition, going to the theater involves following a certain dress code.

How should a woman dress for the theater?

It must be remembered that the requirements for appearance for an evening performance are higher than for a daytime one.

So, for a daytime performance, a woman can wear a cocktail dress, a skirt or trousers with a blouse, stylish overalls. It is allowed to wear inexpensive and moderately bold jewelry. The same recommendations can be followed if you go to a small local theater.

If you have tickets to the Bolshoi Theater on hand and go to an evening performance, then the dress code will be more strict. Here you should choose evening dresses of dark noble colors. You can wear a suit, but with a skirt. Jewelry should be modest and in small quantities, but look more expensive (wooden beads will not be appropriate).
Handbag for going to the theater should be small, and when choosing shoes, give preference to shoes with heels.

What should a man wear to the theater?

A man should also look elegant. During the day, he can limit himself to trousers with a shirt. In the evening, it should be a suit or tuxedo in a dark color (black, dark gray or navy blue), preferably solid, but there may be an inconspicuous check or stripe. The shirt must be light, the tie must be one-color. Instead of a tie, you can wear a bow tie. Shoes — classic men’s shoes.

Despite the development of fashion trends, one should dress correctly in the temple of culture and art. How to choose an outfit for such a rare «holiday» we will consider below.

Which dress to choose?

If you are concerned about what to wear to the Bolshoi Theatre, then the answer is to be found in evening dresses. According to the rules of etiquette, such an outfit will not be pretentious, especially if you are going to the premiere and you have seats in the stalls. In other cases, it is better to wear a cocktail dress.

For youth theaters, it is better to prefer a long dress to a short (knee-length) straight silhouette of dark light. The exception is dresses with long sleeves and small prints. The image can be supplemented with a thin belt at the waist. Should not open the shoulders and décolleté. The intelligentsia is gathering here and will not appreciate these impulses. But light jewelry or high-quality jewelry will come in handy.

Puffy dresses are taboo for the theatre. It should be remembered that the places are quite narrow and the crinoline will be out of place. The color scheme is better to choose dark calm shades.

Alternatives

Some stylists suggest changing the dress. What to wear to the theater is in a skirt suit. The main thing is that the skirt is not short, and the suit is not too conservative.

Trouser overalls are also a worthy alternative. It does not look too elegant, like an evening dress, so you can safely wear it when you are going to attend a youth performance. In cool weather, it is indispensable in combination with a jacket.

You can also wear cropped trousers and a blouse to the theater. This option looks especially good if the pants are colored or have a pattern. But the shirt is better to leave white.

When choosing a jacket, one should take into account the age of the visitor and the characteristics of the performance. Fur boleros, a kimono jacket or a shawl are suitable for the opera, complementing an evening dress. For other outfits, a rhinestone-studded jacket is preferred. But the outfit itself, at the same time, should have monochromatic shades. A bright tweed jacket is also appropriate.

Accessories

When you have decided what to wear to the Mariinsky Theater or any other, it’s time to think about accessories.

The main rule to follow is the «calmness» of jewelry. Your outfit is already talking about the holiday. You should opt for a small necklace, ring or earrings.

It is important to choose the right theater bag. A small elegant clutch or a handbag with a long chain is what you need. There is also a special kind — a «theatrical» handbag, which is necessary in such a situation.

The fan complements the most sophisticated outfits. Sometimes it becomes stuffy in the hall, then it is used for its intended purpose.

Theater shoes

Above we discussed what to wear to the theatre. It remains to decide on the shoes. Shoes are a classic. Super fashionable and modern models are best left at home. The heel should be no higher than 7 cm. For a long dress with a train, you can choose ballet flats so that the heels do not cling to the hem of the dress.

When you come to the theater in the cold season in boots, it is better to change your shoes there. Winter shoes are bad manners. Shoes should be ceremonial, but not stand out from the general outfit, but complement it.

Make-up

Makeup helps complete the look. It should be remembered that the theater is not a nightclub and therefore immediately put aside shiny cosmetics. Restrained shades — just what you need. Be sure to use foundation and powder to even out your complexion. Blush makes the face more embossed and corrects its shape. Therefore, they should not be neglected either.

Use eyeliner. Shades choose depending on the color. Makeup should be evening, but not saturated. Use a lipstick slightly darker than your lip color. In such cases, it is important to apply a lip liner.

What is better to leave at home?

If the answer to the question of what to wear is obvious, then many forget about the taboo. Can I go to the theater in jeans? In no case.

Below we have compiled a list of prohibited items:

  • boots, slippers, sneakers, sandals;
  • jeans, shorts;
  • miniskirt;
  • fishnet tights;
  • T-shirt or sweater;
  • an abundance of sequins, rhinestones and shiny fabrics.

When leaving the house, just look in the mirror and evaluate your outfit adequately. People come to the theater to watch a play. Therefore, you should not turn a visit to a cultural event into a demonstration of bare legs or cleavage. Also be careful when choosing accessories. Two or three decorations are enough.

Casual style is appropriate only for provincial cultural centers or youth performances. You should never wear sportswear.

Summing up

Choosing an outfit for the theater is important. To choose the right clothes, accessories and hairstyle, you should know theatrical etiquette.

Understanding it is quite easy, remembering a few simple rules.

  • The dress should be simple and elegant. Professionally sewn and ironed, to have a clear shape.
  • A beautiful walk is also important in the theater. Her pledge is comfortable shoes with low heels.
  • Accessories are in harmony with the whole outfit.
  • Hair should be modern and individual. The theater prefers smoothly combed hair so as not to interfere with the audience sitting behind during the performance.

What to wear to the theater for a girl: photo

We have prepared some photos to show you the outfits for going to the theatre.

Yesterday you were invited to the theater and spent the whole night thinking about how to dress? And suddenly it was necessary to urgently buy an evening dress? Calm down and carefully read how a girl should look when visiting the “temple of culture”.

It all depends on the genre

The type of theater has a direct influence on the choice of attire. According to theatrical etiquette, there is a difference in which image you will come to the ballet, and in which one to the drama.

Going to the opera and ballet

A visit to the opera and ballet obliges you to forget about simple, albeit classic dresses. Especially about casual or office clothes. The reason for this is the special court status of the genre, which has retained its greatness to this day.

Evening dresses will be the most appropriate. For women — a floor-length dress in a classic silhouette that emphasizes the figure, for men — invariably a tuxedo. Girls can complement the image with gloves to the wrist or middle of the elbow, and jewelry.

But Taylor Swift in the clip «Shake it off» was not afraid to look ridiculous. Usually his visit falls on the time after work, so liberties are allowed in the selection of the image. Pay attention to strict dresses, classic suits, feminine blouses and modest skirts.

Natural make-up and neatly styled hair will only emphasize the relevance of the outfit.

And if you have tickets for the first places in the stalls or box, you can let yourself go out in the evening dress. In other cases, there is a risk of hearing insulting ridicule instead of the expected admiration.

We visit non-standard theaters

In addition to the classical theaters presented, there are alternative ones, such as puppet theater or pantomime. There is no mention of what to wear for this occasion. And it’s great, because it is here that you can reveal all your fashionable potential, forgetting about inappropriate classic and evening dresses.

General Rules

If you still haven’t decided what to wear to the theatre, use the general advice. In short, their essence is as follows — it is better to seem stiff and boring than to make excuses that it was not by chance that you wandered into the theater.

Basic items

A combination of simple items from the basic wardrobe will be a win-win option. What applies to him?

  • Classic mid-knee skirts;
  • blouses in soothing shades;
  • trousers with arrows;
  • suit, a la men’s tuxedo;
  • tailored dress.

Ideal options are a little black dress or a white shirt or blouse tucked into a dark skirt. Don’t be afraid to be boring. After all, the theater is not a student party either.

Appropriateness of shoes

Is it possible to go to the theater and not put on new shoes with amazing platform heels? Leave the indignation for a more appropriate occasion. And pay attention to nude lacquer pumps, two-tone Chanel shoes (with a black toe), classic shoes with moderate heels. In a word, nothing extraordinary and bright.

The same Chanel

arrow_left
The same Chanel

Take note of the rule for choosing stockings/tights. Black is the winning choice. It slims the legs and adds elegance to the look. However, if you choose a light outfit, then flesh tones without a hint of shine will look more harmonious. No lace, pattern and bright combination of all kinds of colors.

Accessories

Any, even the most boring look can be transformed with the help of accessories … or completely ruined.

The main rule is that there should not be many of them, and they should be in harmony with the outfit. Ideally, give up flashy jewelry. Give preference to noble sets of precious metals.

And if you plan to create a romantic image, then tie a silk or gauze scarf around your neck.

This evening give up your favorite roomy bag. Let her replacement be a small one over the shoulder or a clutch.

Attention to detail

The image will not be complete if you put on a beautiful dress, choose accessories correctly, but forget about such trifles as hair and makeup.

The main rule that is the leitmotif of all advice is nothing defiant!

Remember how many times you had to sit awkwardly, jumping up and down, because someone in front of you suddenly decided that 17th century hairstyles were back in fashion?

Light waves, interesting weaving, ponytail or bun. Here is something that will balance the image and will not make those sitting next to you huff with displeasure.

Of course, going to the theater requires an evening look and appropriate make-up. But do not rush to make trendy black smoky eyes and paint your lips with scarlet lipstick. See what the movie stars look like. Either emphasized eyes with neutral lips, or vice versa. There can be no other.

Perfume is not an obligatory part of theater fees. However, without your favorite fragrance, the image looks incomplete. Evening time implies the choice of special perfumes, plumes. They are distinguished by a deeper and more viscous smell.

But even here you should not be zealous. Firstly, the fragrance itself should not be too heavy. Some people may develop allergies from this, and then the evening will be ruined for everyone. And secondly, do not abuse the application. A couple of drops on the wrists and behind the earlobes will be more than enough.

Closing notes

Undoubtedly, any advice is advisory in nature, and there is no strict face control in the theater. But what girl doesn’t want to dress up, especially when the opportunity presents itself. Going to the theater is another chance not only to relax culturally, but also to put on a beautiful dress, do your hair, take a gentleman by the arm and plunge into the world of theatrical art.

Gone are the days when a trip to the theater was an event for which people were carefully prepared — they sewed outfits, picked up jewelry, luxurious shoes, that is, it was a full-fledged appearance in society. In modern conditions, watching a theatrical performance is also an important event, although not as significant as before.

In any case, the question of how a woman should dress for the theater sometimes worries the fair sex. The dress code depends on the scale of the event: opening or final of the season, ballet or opera, ordinary performance, staging in an experimental or puppet theater.

Of course, when deciding how to dress, you should take into account the season. The time of day is also taken into account — for daytime performances, the rules regarding the form of clothing are less strict.

In the last two cases, a democratic outfit is acceptable, including dress pants or a skirt + a traditional white top.

You can choose black jeans with a dressy blouse and jacket or a casual dress. The same applies to the ladies who came to the theatrical production from work, not being able to change clothes.

How to dress for the theater for all other women, we will tell below.

Rules and taboos for theatrical attire

So, for starters, what should a woman absolutely not wear to the theatre:

  • casual, sportswear;
  • shoes with metal heels;
  • shorts, T-shirts, sundresses;
  • open sandals, slippers, ;
  • too bright, provocative clothing;
  • short dresses;
  • huge bags.

With regard to everyday clothing, the prohibition is obvious due to its inappropriateness in a solemn setting. As for shoes with metal heels, loudly clattering heels will prevent the rest of the audience from enjoying the performance, an annoying sound will cause unnecessary attention, and, finally, such shoes will ruin expensive parquet.

Open toes and heels are not aesthetically pleasing (even if it’s a hot summer outside), besides, the theatrical dress code requires women to wear tight bodily tights, which are excluded in tandem with sandals. In special cases, when it is very hot, a lady should at least get a pedicure.

Stockings, tights in fishnet or bright colors — the height of obscenity and vulgarity.

Autumn, winter, and sometimes even spring are often characterized by slushy, dirty weather, so you will definitely have to change your shoes in the theater. It is not customary to enter the theater hall in boots: in summer and winter, classic pumps with medium heels are recommended.

Bright, neon colors, sequins, sequins, rhinestones on your clothes are tasteless. In the event that a woman’s brilliant outfit gets into the spotlight, the glare that appears will create serious inconvenience for the actors.

What should a girl wear to a theater premiere? For an ordinary production, both the notorious black dress in a minimalist style and the classic dark bottom, white top are suitable.

If you plan to go to the opera (especially if your seats are in the stalls), then a laconic but luxurious flowing evening dress is quite appropriate.

In winter, a woman can complement the outfit with a small fur cape, for example, from mink or otter.

Please note that clothes should not contain any hint of vulgarity: if the back is open, then the neckline is unacceptable and vice versa.

A small elegant clutch is ideal as an accessory for a woman — everything you need will fit there, and the handbag itself will be a great addition to the outfit. As mentioned above, bulky bags have no place in the theater, they will look strange there.

As for jewelry, a woman really needs them to go to the theater. You just need to know the measure — one brooch or a discreet set consisting of a necklace and earrings is enough (but not jewelry).

Last but not least, make-up for going to the theater should not be too bright, hair should be too high (so as not to interfere with the audience behind you to watch the performance), and mobile phones should be turned off. Enjoy watching!

What outfits can you wear to a winter wedding if you are a guest?

580

If you’ve been invited to a wedding, you’ve probably already started looking for an outfit. But what to wear if the celebration takes place in the winter season?

What to consider when choosing an outfit?

In order for the outfit to be appropriate, several important points should be taken into account when choosing it:

  • Wedding format. If only painting and a light buffet are planned, then you should not wear a luxurious dress, prefer a more formal and restrained outfit to it. And if you were invited to a magnificent celebration, then it is important not to lose face and look elegant.
  • Subject. Recently, themed weddings have become relevant, so if you are invited to one of them, choose an outfit that matches the concept of the celebration.
  • Features of your appearance. The outfit should suit you, so when buying, consider such points as build, height, some flaws, color type.

Choosing the right outfit

So, what should guests wear to a winter wedding? Choosing an outfit is not an easy task, especially if the celebration is scheduled for the cold season. There are a lot of different nuances, and all of them need to be taken into account. The most important ones are detailed below.

Outfit

The best option for any woman is, of course, a dress. But what should it be? When buying, the following criteria are taken into account:

  1. Length. Coming to a wedding, especially a winter one, in an ultra-short dress is stupid and pointless, because, firstly, such an image will be inappropriate and vulgar, and secondly, you can just freeze. A floor-length dress is not very comfortable, because it can get wet due to snow or prevent you from moving normally on slippery ice. So the best option is a midi length to the knee, slightly above it or below it.
  2. The style should be elegant and hide the flaws of your figure. If you can afford a tight-fitting dress, then you should not choose too frank and sexy, because the bride should be in the spotlight. Look great and fit almost all sheath dresses. Designate the waist and make the image more feminine will allow a model with a belt and a flared or fluffy skirt. And a girl who is in a position or has a curvy shape (especially in the abdomen) should pay attention to dresses with a free cut or high waist.
  3. The fabric should be thick enough to create a slimming effect and hide figure defects. In addition, the material should be comfortable to wear, pleasant to the touch and breathable.
  4. Colour. The only taboo is the white color, which is the prerogative of the bride. Other shades are available, but still in winter it is better to give preference to noble rich tones, such as dark blue, emerald green, purple, chocolate, burgundy.
  5. Sleeve length. The best and most comfortable option is ¾ sleeves, which will not get dirty and interfere. But you can choose a model with short sleeves or even without them.

A dress is not the only option, it is quite possible to choose a feminine and elegant suit, including a pantsuit.

Tip: to keep warm in a sleeveless dress, wear a bolero, jacket or elegant cardigan over it.

Outerwear

Some part of the event will probably take place outdoors, so it is worth choosing warm and weather-appropriate outerwear. The best option is a fur coat or sheepskin coat. But it is quite possible to choose an elegant coat.

Tip: choose a product with a hood, as a hat will ruin your hair. Moreover, this part must be sufficiently voluminous, otherwise the hair will still be crushed.

Shoes

Shoes are the same integral part of the image as the dress. You can put on elegant boots with heels or ankle boots. But most of the time you will probably spend indoors, so it is better to take a change of shoes with you — shoes. And remember that the wedding is not complete without competitions and dances, so choose a comfortable model with stable heels or wedges.

Underwear and tights

It would seem that no one will see underwear, and tights are a secondary accessory. But this approach is fundamentally wrong, because sometimes it is precisely such components of the image that spoil the overall impression. And therefore, their choice should be approached responsibly.

Underwear should be comfortable, hide figure flaws and not stand out under clothing. Therefore, choose a set of a suitable style and the right size. In addition, the underwear should match the outfit, so if you chose a dress with an open back, then the bodice should not be visible.

As for tights, it is best to choose nylon thin rather than tight ones (the best option is 40-60 den). The color is determined taking into account the chosen outfit: if the dress is dark, then the tights can be black, and if the outfit is light, then give preference to a flesh color, namely a shade of light tan (it visually slims the legs). Choose the right size so that the elastic does not cut into the body and does not create wrinkles.

Tips

Useful tips:

  • A discreet outfit can be completed with accessories: an elegant clutch, a beautiful necklace or beads, a bracelet or a strap.
