Help your child write their letter to Santa with our free printable template. The questions are already there, you just help your child fill in the answers. Older children who can read and write won’t need help. But you get to read what they are asking for and how they have reflected on their year.
A letter to Santa Claus is a fun activity for younger children to enjoy a holiday tradition with a little help from their parents. It’s a pretty important business to younger children to convey their Christmas wishes to the big guy.
Use our free Santa letter template as a fun way to help your kids make their Christmas wish list. My Dear Santa list gives the kids an opportunity to reflect on their year and name some of the nice things they have done for others.
Santa Letterhead
You will need a Santa letterhead which is also a free download for you. Write the response from Santa to your child. Be sure to include their name. You may want to say to your child that their name is on the nice list.

Writing letters to Santa is a great way to teach kids about the lost art of letter writing as well as reflecting on their kindness to others.
Do this activity early in the holiday season. It takes time for the postal service to process the many requests coming in at this time of year.
How To Get A Letter Postmarked from the North Pole
The USPS has a Greetings from the North Pole Post Office program which offers the following instructions for getting a letter postmarked from the North Pole sent to your child.
What you need
- Santa template letter, free download
- Santa letterhead, free download
- 2 Envelopes
- 2 postage stamps
Be sure to mail the letter by December 10 to allow Santa’s elves plenty of time to handle all that mail.
Step 1
Have the child write a letter to Santa and place it in an envelope addressed to Santa Claus, North Pole.
Step 2
Write a personalized response to the child’s letter and sign it “From Santa.”
Step 3
Insert both letters into an envelope, and address it to the child.
Be sure your children do not see you include the response from Santa into the envelope.
Step 4
Add the return address: SANTA, NORTH POLE, to the envelope.
Step 5
Ensure a First-Class Mail stamp is affixed to the envelope.
Step 6
Place the complete envelope into a larger envelope, with appropriate postage, and address it to:
North Pole Postmark
Postmaster
4141 Postmark Dr.
Anchorage AK. 99530-9998
Print Instructions
Print on a regular 8 1/2 x 11 size printer paper. Your home printer should work just fine.
Both the letter to Santa and the Santa letterhead will print in color unless you select black and white when you print. For best results, be sure your printer has ink.
You can have these printed at your office supply store like Staples or Office Depot also.
Print one for each child, as many as you need. There is no limit to the number you can print.
A fun idea when writing Dear Santa letters is to make it into a fun family activity to look forward to every Christmas season as your kids are growing up. Save their letters to share with them when they get older. Good memories are homemade.

What are the Free, Printable Letters to Santa?
The Letters to Santa are simple and straightforward and leave plenty of room for personalization by each child. The child can write in their age, where they live, and the items they’d like from Santa this year for Christmas. Finally, they can sign their name at the end.

What to do with Your Child’s Letter to Santa
There are a few options of what to do with your child’s Letter to Santa.
In years past, we have kept them but this year, we might go the extra step and mail them to Santa. I will be sure to at least take a picture of our Letters to Santa to look back on.
If you want to mail your letter through the post office, the USPS will actually provide a reply to your child’s Letter to Santa with a North Pole Postmark. The USPS provides the steps to make this happen on their website. I think it’s an adorable idea.
Additionally, Macy’s also accepts Letters to Santa and will donate $1 to the Make-a-Wish Foundation (up to $1 million) for every letter submitted in their stores or online.

Letter to Grandfather Frost: children from the family education assistance center visited the Russian Post sorting center
Every day, millions of letters and parcels pass through the Russian Post.
On New Year’s Eve, people rush to congratulate each other on the holiday, putting a piece of warmth and love in envelopes. Someone writes a message to Santa Claus. Pupils of the Center for the Promotion of Family Education «Sputnik» visited the largest sorting center of the Russian Post as part of the «Let’s Be Friends!» project. The employees gave the children a tour and together sent holiday cards to their loved ones.
The main task of the sorting centers of the Russian Post is to quickly distribute the flow of letters and parcels in directions so that each of them gets to the addressee. The largest sorting hub in Moscow is located on the territory of Vnukovo Airport. Its area is 64 thousand square meters.
“Our center is about 13 football fields. The largest sorting machine in Europe operates here, which distributes letters and parcels to 412 directions”, — Svetlana Khoroshevskaya , Deputy Head of the Russian Post Logistics Center , tells the guests.
Gena, Cheburashka and Goblin
There are more than 600 branches of the Russian Post in the capital. There are also mailboxes through which you can send your letters and postcards, outside the branches — there are more than 500 of them. Letters are brought to the territory of the sorting center by cars — each of them collects a load weighing about one and a half tons.
An automated sorting unit is like a factory filled with various mechanisms — conveyors, machines, loaders, containers.
Letters are processed with a sorting machine. This is an industrial robot, which is a conveyor belt with outputs. The workers of the center talk to each other in a language that only they can understand: a large green container is called Gena, and a red net with ears is Cheburashka. The blue container that transforms from a baby to a huge one is called the Goblin.
For Santa Claus
The letter sorter processes 45,000 letters per hour.
It reads the barcode of the letter or takes a photo of the index area and recognizes where the letter should go. « Therefore, when you send postcards, it is very important to write the index correctly and correctly», — explains Svetlana.
The machine does its job well, but it is not omnipotent either, because there are letters with fuzzy numbers, barcodes that have come off, and so on. This mail is sorted by people.
Letters to Santa Claus are often dropped into mailboxes. “In Russia, Santa Claus lives in Veliky Ustyug. Even if the address is written incorrectly, but indicated to «Grandfather Frost», the letter will still reach. Since mid-December, 300-400 such messages have been received a day, ”,” Svetlana said.
Postcard
At the end of the tour, the children were given postcards, stamps and stickers. “Children were able to personally check how the post office works. Sign postcards, stick stamps, put a special stamp and send», — added an employee of the Russian Post.
The guys were surprised by the scale of the Russian Post and the sorting center. So, Anna, a pupil of the Sputnik center, noted that this is a huge job, in which both people and different machines participate. « I was also curious to know where the messages for Santa Claus are sent. Today I signed postcards to the director of our center and my best friend,» , she added.
“An interesting tour! The scale of the Russian Post was very surprising. I liked how the workers call the mailboxes among themselves: Cheburashka, Gena, Goblin. I also signed postcards and pasted stamps for the first time today — I decided to send them to my two favorite teachers from the center. I think they will be surprised and delighted!” — said Timofey, a pupil of the Sputnik Center.
Director of Sputnik Oleg Kezhaev said that an excursion to the sorting center of the Russian Post was not only an exciting pastime, but could also be useful for choosing a future profession.
“Among our children, there are many high school students and 9th grade graduates. We pay great attention to the professional orientation of our pupils. In addition to career guidance issues, this is also a way of socialization for children who will soon begin an independent life», — he noted.
