Naming your child is special across every community. In some communities they hold a ceremony for this. In many others people call a priest to select the alphabet from which the name would start. Parents have different approaches as well while naming their child. Some parents prefer to have short names so they are not further shortened in school, by relatives or friends. There are some parents who prefer names with A or B so the child is always on top when announcements are made alphabetically.
Whatever the ceremony, whatever the tradition, for parents naming their child is a very special moment.

And when they graduate from an Ivy League, they’ll thank you for giving them such a practical name.

beautiful and rare name for a baby
Choosing a beautiful name for a boy is not so easy, especially when the goal is to choose not only a beautiful, but also a significant, rare name, with good energy. But all parents set different goals for themselves. Someone is looking for beautiful names for boys, someone wants to find a rare national name, and for someone it is important that the name reflects the traditions of the family or clan. There are many options, and sometimes choosing what you need is not so easy …
Name for a boy, its meaning and influence on fate
In fact, choosing a worthy name for a boy, as well as for a girl, is so important that it is difficult to imagine, and our ancestors understood this, while modern parents do not betray this due importance. But in vain …
In general, a name can have an incredible impact on a person, and our distant ancestors knew about it. Moreover, in some cultures the name was given such importance that its choice for the child was limited by rules, traditions and even laws.
But in short, first of all, looking through the names for boys and choosing what you need, you should pay attention to factors such as meaning and fate. The fact is that each name has a meaning, its own, unique, and on its basis a certain energy is formed, which in turn affects literally everything, including the character of the child, and even his life, destiny. In ancient times in Japan and China, for example, the traditions of naming a child were given incredible importance and attention. They understood that the meaning of a name for a boy could become a fundamental factor and determine his future. At the same time, fate was taken into account no less, and not only in the countries of Asia, but also in our country. So, on the territory of Ancient Russia, the choice of a name for boys was also given incredible importance.
In modern times, the fate of the name and meaning are no longer so important for young parents, they choose «it just sounded more beautiful.» But believe me, even choosing a beautiful male name, you need to be careful …
Beautiful or rare name: which is better?
A beautiful name for a boy will not always be completely useful, just like a rare one. Beautiful names have their own characteristics, rare ones have their own. It all depends on the name itself, on its meaning, on what fate pursued its other bearers, and not only.
Beautiful names for boys are represented in the modern name book by a fairly extensive list, but not all of them have good energy, and even more so, meaning. Beautiful names for boys can bring both a lot of benefits and a lot of negativity. Be sure, when choosing such a name, make sure that it has good energy, a normal meaning, and sounds good.
There are also rare names for boys, both with a good meaning and with a bad one. Besides, rare names, they are rare for a reason, right? Perhaps in the distant past it was worn by a person with a bad fate, with tragic karma, or who left a mark on history by far from the best deeds. Keep this in mind, and always meticulously check the facts, try to understand why the name has become rare.
Of course, there are both beautiful and rare names for boys with a good meaning, fate, karma and energy. But there are few of them, and for the most part you need to look for them not in ordinary name books, but, for example, in the name book according to the Saints.
Basic rules for choosing a name for a boy
When choosing a name for a boy, you can use various methods. In many families, such an important issue is generally decided at the family council. But in order to come to a common opinion, it is necessary to decide on a strategy of action. However, in any method of choosing a name, there are both pluses and minuses.
The man is the heir, the future head of the family. He is destined to continue his father’s family. However, the name is of great importance for the baby from birth, and not after 20 years. Everyone knows that it has the greatest influence on the formation of character. Even before birth, a child can hear how his future parents call him. A person recognizes his name from hundreds of other names. Sometimes, wanting to offend or offend a person, it is enough to distort the name that he was called. The child is especially sensitive to this, because the name for him is sacred, personal, purely individual. Therefore, when choosing a name for a baby, it is worth considering many factors:0013
Be smart about choosing a name
Child to live with this name. You should not name the baby by the name of your favorite character from the series. The idea of a self-made name is even dumber. With such a choice, you not only do not show your parental love, but, on the contrary, ruin his life. Such a boy will be teased in the garden, then at school, and possibly at the university. He will suffer from this, feel inferior, insecure and may even begin to avoid society. It will become even worse for him when the time comes for the first love and romantic relationship. Therefore, wishing a better future for your child, still think not about your own individuality, but about his future.
Consider his future paternity
Do not forget that in the future the chosen variation of the name will become a patronymic for your future grandchildren, and it should be harmonious. For example, rare variations do not always sound good in the form of a patronymic.
Don’t give the boy the father’s name
You often meet San Sanyches or Ivanov Ivanovichs on the street. However, in reality, such a combination cannot be called successful. The problem is that due to the fact that the name and patronymic sound the same, the boy can hardly define himself as an individual and a separate person. He is haunted by the feeling that he is only a father’s shadow. This deprives him of the opportunity to feel his own uniqueness and can cause childhood neurosis or even depression.
Do not forget that there can be no wrong choice, because each name and each child is unique in itself. The main thing is that the name of the boy in the future becomes for him a real gift of fate and parents, and not a test or punishment for life.
Boys naming schemes
There are many varieties of schemes, according to which you can choose beautiful, and rare, and the most unusual names. But we will consider only the most popular and correct of them.
By tradition
Families with a conservative approach to life always find it difficult to make any changes and experiments. However, if you are at a loss and cannot decide what the name for the boy should be, familiar or unusual, then traditionalism will provide you with its advantages. When the boy has a question about the history of his own name, he will be able to understand that the choice of parents is not accidental and is rooted in the history of his family. This will let him:
- learn to respect and appreciate your family’s past;
- to perceive the experience of previous generations;
- imagine how the fate of his relatives developed;
- learn and keep the secrets and achievements of your family, so that later you can tell them to your offspring.
According to the church calendar
Not so long ago, for most people, the issue of choosing a name for a child did not rise so sharply, because they knew for sure that in the Church Name Book there would always be suitable names for boys that coincide with their dates of birth. Believers today still call their children in accordance with the church calendar, considering this method to be the most faithful and correct. It is believed that a child named after a saint or archangel receives his protection, patronage and support, and his parents believe that their child will be happy and healthy.
Today, many parents do not like the old-fashioned sound of church names, while others are convinced that the choice is too limited by this method. However, in each month there is a rather impressive list of name days of saints. In addition, no one forces you to call the baby an ancient form. For example, the church variation Alexy was transformed into Alexei, John — into Ivan. But parents can be sure that any church name does not carry any negative or bad meaning.
In the name book according to the Saints, rare names are found quite often, but the meanings of most of the names are associated with the Lord. For people who are confident that the name of the boy is his future protection and talisman, this approach is really ideal.
According to harmony
In everyday life, we pay the most attention to sound. That is why, when choosing a name for a boy, you should say it out loud more than once, decline, change its shape. Particular attention should be paid to how well it combines with the patronymic and surname. The following rules will help you deal with this issue faster:
- The length of the components : The most consonant and beautiful are combinations of a short name and a longer patronymic, or combinations that have approximately the same length of the components — Gleb Maksimovich, Lev Alekseevich, Nikolai Ivanovich.
- Uniformity : The name must comply with national traditions. Agree, such a combination as Juan Alexandrovich sounds strange and stupid, and the children of a man with that name in our culture will not have a patronymic at all. Combinations Alexey Dzhonovich or Ivan Dzhekovich can be considered as unacceptable.
- Compatibility of the end of the name and the beginning of the patronymic: The junction of the name and patronymic should also not be ignored. It is best when there is a vowel at the end of the name, and a consonant at the beginning of the patronymic, as in the combination Nikita Maksimovich. The reverse combination is also considered acceptable — Denis Andreevich.
Undoubtedly, euphony is one of the main points, because in adult life these will no longer be names for boys, but names for adult men, whom many people will address by their first and middle names.
By season
If, when choosing, parents do not want to be based on astrological factors, then no one canceled the natural change of seasons, and each of the four seasons affects the character and fate of the baby. Many boys’ names correspond to a specific season, so this fact can also help you make a better choice:
- Winter — gives the boy the character of a real man. He is strong-willed, determined and courageous. For boys born in winter, such beautiful names are suitable: Semyon, Arseny, Alexei, Stepan, Valentin, Elisha. Their melodic sound will slightly soften the stubborn and tough disposition of these men.
- Spring — gives birth to dreamers, romantics, actors, poets or musicians. Such sensitive boys with a rich inner world can be called: Timur, Rodion, Bogdan, Nathan, Valery or Ruslan.
- Summer — gives birth to lively, energetic and bright personalities. Their names should also be bright, otherwise they will feel oppressed. Such beautiful variants of names as Gleb, Trofim, Lev, Makar, Vladislav, Igor, Gordey are suitable for them.
- Autumn — endows boys with poise and a penchant for analysis, these are very insightful and sensitive people. They are worthy of such sonorous names as: David, Oleg, Dmitry, Roman, Mikhail.
Having chosen the right combination, do not rush to confirm your choice. Think it over carefully, imagine your child in various situations, decide how comfortable he will feel if you give him one or another name for a boy, think about what fate awaits him, and not only.
Male names — beautiful and modern names for boys
According to biblical stories, the very first male name in the history of the human race was the name Adam, which belonged to the first man. And, however, it is difficult to argue with this, just as it is impossible to argue with the fact that the male name, as well as the female name in general, has always been and will remain a storehouse of secrets and energy that affect the carrier.
Today, many have simply forgotten about this and no longer pay as much attention to the process of naming a child as our distant ancestors did. But it would be worth it, because even in ancient times people knew how important it is for a person to have a name, and even the most suitable for him …
How to choose a male name in modern times?

Slavic male names in antiquity
From time immemorial, the choice of a male name has been given such importance, which is difficult to imagine. Our ancestors paid maximum attention to the process of naming a child, and even more so men, which is not surprising. But it would be worth saying that in ancient times, a boy under 12 years old did not have the right to bear a real male name — he could only have a nickname that his parents or any of the family members could give him. For all twelve years, the elders watched the boy, as did the parents, and only after these years could the boy be given a male name, and then, based only on his special features, talents, characteristics, habits, and much more.
In the process of naming a child, he was given two names as a result, one of which was secret, while the other was explicit. Only the parents of the child were supposed to know the secret, and it was precisely this that was supposed to protect the boy, the future man, from evil spirits and the evil eye. And by the way, there was a belief in those days that the soul of a man could be taken over by the person who recognizes his secret name.
As for the naming process, it followed a whole bunch of traditions. Firstly, the process itself was always equated with a real holiday itself, for which the whole family of the future man had to prepare, observing the mail, following certain instructions of the elders, and not only. At the same time, the rite itself, when male names were given, could be performed by only a few people in the community.
Male names in other cultures
In Slavic culture, male names, as well as female ones, were chosen in accordance with different traditions and rules. In general, the Slavs treated this process very responsibly and tried in no case to break the rules. For example, it has always been considered most correct to give such male names that have at least some important meaning for a person. But in other cultures, this process was a little different, and not everywhere followed certain rules for naming …
Medieval Europe
In Medieval Europe, male names were already chosen according to other rules. Biblical meaning or human habits played little role there. In Europe, first of all, attention was paid to the social status of the child, his belonging to one or another social stratum of society. In addition, not all female and male names were given in Europe, for example, to people from lower social strata. There were male names that were given to people of lower status in society, and vice versa.
There was another important determining factor, and that was the identity of the person. In medieval Europe, a male name could play an identifying role. It was with its help that a person could later identify himself among other people. Moreover, such people even had surnames, while people from lower social strata did not even have surnames.
Names for men in Chinese culture
In Chinese culture, the situation with male names was much more complicated. There, in ancient times, children were given one male name, then it was replaced with a dairy or baby name, while after a certain period, when they entered school, a Chinese child could be given a student name for a boy. When a child reached adulthood, he was already given a second one, and if he successfully passed the exams, he was given a big and official name. That is, the path from birth to getting a name for life lasted a lot of years.
Now everything is much simpler there. With the formation of the PRC, such a complex naming system has already disappeared, and another one has appeared in its place. Now children are called by different names and use them to the very end, in the course of their lives. And not all parents adhere to any specific traditions in the process of naming.
Arab culture
A completely and completely Arabic system of names and naming traditions was formed already in the Middle Ages, and it was this naming system that spread to all Eastern cultures. Throughout his life, a person belonging to the Arab culture can have a whole bunch of names, at least a few. So, for example, in infancy, an Arab could be given the first (“alam”), which was given only at the moment when the child was circumcised. At the same time, the male name of the father was added to this name. Depending on the social status and position, a man could eventually get a nickname, title, “lakab”, which could describe the qualities or external characteristics of a person. After a while, a person could receive a name corresponding to and closely associated with the country in which he was born.
By the way, full Arabic could consist of five parts:
- kunya — means «the father of that»;
- ism or alam is already a personal name that was given at birth;
- nasab — in this case, it means the name of the father;
- lakab, nabaz, or mansab is already a title, an epithet or an honorary nickname;
- nisba or tahallus — masculine, meaning an additional sign.
At the same time, it would be worth mentioning that the traditions of naming women and men in Arab culture are different, and different rules and traditions are used in different cases.
Modern tradition of naming by male names
In modern times, male names are no longer always given in accordance with the traditions of those cultures to which future men belong. In many countries, people simply call the boy by such names that they consider beautiful, popular, or simply important, tied to a celebration or holiday, and not only. However, many still adhere to certain traditions, but in different cultures they differ …
Slavic traditions
There is a tradition that all Slavs, without exception, tried to follow earlier, and now they adhere only in part. This tradition consists in naming a child with a name that belongs to a certain biblical Saint. Such male names can be found in the name book according to the Saints. And it all starts with the birth of a child, a boy — parents should look at the calendar and see which Saint is honored on the boy’s birthday, and then use the chosen name. Although, there are various additional reservations — for example, in some cases it is allowed to choose the name of a Saint who is revered in the coming days.
However, not everyone adheres to this tradition now. In the same Russia, Ukraine, which is moving further and further away from Slavic culture and traditions, Belarus, people are increasingly simply ignoring traditions and following the already modernized rules. For example, they choose male names based on the meaning, characteristics, belonging of the child to a particular season or zodiac sign, and not only.
And recently, cases have become more frequent when parents call boys such variations that did not even exist. For example, there are names dedicated to certain celebrations or memorable dates, such as «Return of the Crimea.» And in Ukraine, names dedicated to new revolutions appeared at all, for example, “Maidan”.
Men’s names among modern Muslims
Modern Muslims mostly adhere to only one single tradition, or rather even rules. It says that the future man should have such a masculine name that will spew positive, useful energy. A male name should mean something good, positive, culturally, morally, or psychologically correct.
Of course, the tradition of naming boys after the prophets has not gone away among Muslims. Most often, certain variants of the names of Allah are used. True, here, too, there are rules and prohibitions. For example, the pure, exact use of one of the hundred names of Allah is forbidden. The prefix “Ab” must be added, which in turn translates as “slave”.
European and American Values
In modern Europe, and even more so in America, the process of naming children does resemble some kind of circus. Now they do not adhere to any traditions, and for the most part they name children with those variants of names that parents simply like.
There are several naming options in Western countries. For example, some parents name their children in accordance with the names of their ancestors — the names of the parents of mom and dad, grandfathers, grandmothers, and more. The second option is to name children after football stars, both traditional and American, musicians, athletes, politicians, and even actors. And there is a third option — here it’s completely, as they say, “insanity rolls over”. In this case, male names, like female ones, are invented out of nowhere, made up of combinations of different names, surnames, names of holidays, car models, etc.
Types and categories of male names
Like women’s names, men’s names can also be divided into a huge number of categories according to a variety of criteria. But the most important factor in the division, whatever one may say, is still the division into categories according to religiosity. So. all male names can be divided into:
- Church male names — they are divided into two categories, namely, Orthodox and Catholic names, sections with which you can just find on the pages of our site;
- Muslim male names — they are divided into types, including Turkic, nisbs, Arabic, Azerbaijani, and Arabic names;
- Buddhist male names — they can be conditionally divided into monastic, wangyal, damdinsuren, tenjin, sonam, rinchen sanpo, and gyaltsen.
In addition, in different cultures and areas, male names are also divided into categories, in accordance with the patronage of the signs of the Zodiac according to the Eastern or Orthodox calendar, seasons and seasons, months, days, numbers, and more. In other words, each male name can consist of several different categories at once.

Now there are the most Mohammeds in the world (especially together with analogues, for example, the form Magomed), and not only in Muslim countries. For example, in 2008 this name turned out to be the most popular among newborns in London, and in the Chechen Republic, almost all boys born on January 14, 2014 (the day of the prophet) were named Mohammed.
In the past in Russia, as a rule, an infant was given a name at baptism, and was named after the saint whose day fell on the christening. Now many parents, who are not alien to Orthodoxy, also try to observe this custom — it is believed that the saint will protect the one named after his name throughout his life. But, it must be admitted, much more attention in our time is paid to the meaning of the name. Perhaps the name Adam is unpopular precisely because of its meaning — «made of clay», and the name Alexander, on the contrary, is popular because it comes from «alex» (protector) and «andros» (man). Giving a name to a child, modern parents seem to give him a setting for the future. By the way, last year in Russia most of all were born Artyomov — «intact».
It is curious that in ancient times, in pagan times, a boy could end up without a name at all — men received a name not at birth, but much later, having shown character and acquired merit. There is no character, no merit — and there might not be a name, one could go all his life as «Ivashkin’s son» (after his father’s name).
And in ancient Rome, the fifth and subsequent sons could not count on their own name at all — they were simply numbered: Quintus (fifth), Sextus (sixth) or Septimus (seventh). Names were given only to the first four. In ancient Rome, they were not fond of inventing names at all — there were only about 70 of them.
The 20th and 21st centuries turned out to be inventive. Some of the unusual names that were once invented in Russia are unlikely to be used again (for example, Pofistal — the Winner of Fascism Joseph STALIN), but many have even taken root (Vladlen — VLADIMIR LENIN). In general, Russians are now still closer to traditions, and to deep ones — boys are often called by old Russian names: Elisha, Yaroslav, Svyatoslav. But in the US, there is a real boom in unusual, sometimes not even “human” names. For example, David Beckham named his son Brooklyn (after the urban area where he was conceived), and Elon Musk completely surprised the world with the name of the heir «X Æ A-12».

how to choose a beautiful name for a boy
boy so that his son grows up confident, smart and successful
Olga Alexandrova
KP journalist
Scientists at the University of California at Berkeley conducted a study where they interviewed more than 450 students with both original and often common names to understand whether the choice was reflected name on the fate of a person. So, here, the students admitted that the owners of strange and funny names suffered from neuroses four times more often and were predisposed to the development of complexes. Such people are more likely to develop defensive skills, they are less likely to trust others. This is especially true for the stronger sex. Therefore, choosing the right name for your son is very important and even fateful.
So what are the principles to follow in order for your son to grow up happy, successful and successful? How to choose a name for a boy? Parapsychologists assure that already at 7-8 months of pregnancy, you can “try” the names you like by ear, say a list, they say, if the baby likes the name, he will feel it at the vibration level and let you know. But this method is rather for those who believe in it. Linguists give some advice: a short name is most suitable for a long patronymic, and a short name is consonant with a long one. For example, Ivan Alekseevich or Alexei Ilyich. For ease of pronunciation, you need to remember about sound harmony: the first letter of the patronymic is a vowel, the last letter of the name must be a consonant, and vice versa. For example, Nikita Sergeevich, not Nikita Alexandrovich. The cluster of consonants at the junction of the name and patronymic sounds dissonant, as well as repetitions of the same consonant sounds, the tongue will “stumble” every time it is pronounced. Artem Rolandovich, Ruslan Valerievich. The ideal option is when the stress in both the name and patronymic will fall on the same syllable in a row, it’s easier to pronounce. For example, Sergei Andreevich, Anton Sergeevich.
Ideal combinations of first name and patronymic for men
In honor of the father, but a diminutive
It is noble to name a son after the father, but psychologists do not advise doing this. Subconsciously, the growing heir will be constantly pressed by the authority of the father and his potential, expressed or unrealized. If the father is successful, the guy will strive all his life to match him. And if it doesn’t work out, it will lead to complexes. If the father did not achieve much in life, then looking back at the less successful namesake-father will slow down the leader. In addition, the same names in the family psychoenergetically weaken both the son and the father. But if you still decide to name the child in honor of the pope, then choose another diminutive name. So you identify the baby as a separate person and avoid confusion in the family.

In adolescence, when all feelings are heightened, the boy may end up hating his name.
Remember the sound
Psychologists are sure that a «hard» or «soft» name can really bring the missing features into the baby’s personality. If you want your baby to grow up as a leader, confident, purposeful, then it is advisable to use the sound «p» and «p» in the name. Names with the sound «l», «m», «n» are a sign that their carrier has a soft and kind character. But! Certain qualities can be softened, neutralized if there are too many owners of one name — in the classroom, in kindergarten, in the team. Hence the life hack: when registering a child in the registry office, specify how many children with a name like your son’s were registered with them this year? It is possible that they will all meet later in the same class. And not a single school can handle 30 Igor-leaders.
How to choose a son’s name according to the calendar
The more modern dads and mothers turn their heads towards the church, the more common the trend for choosing a name according to the calendar becomes. It is believed that the saint in whose honor the baby is named will protect and protect him all his life. Moreover, now church laws are softer, the saints allow naming a child by the name of a saint, whose memory will be celebrated on the 8th and 40th day after his birth. And not just on a specific birthday. In addition, today, calendars are increasingly used by months, and not by days.
By the way, parents may be surprised that in the holy calendar, some names of boys according to the church calendar are repeated in different months. This does not mean that a given name has one patron on different dates; for example, in December, Alexander celebrates the day of the Angel, his patron is the holy noble prince Alexander Nevsky, and Alexander, born in April, has his own heavenly patron, the Monk Alexander of Svir. Your child’s name day will be the same no matter what year it is.

How to choose a son’s name according to the zodiac sign
Astrologers are sure that before coming up with a name for your daughter, you need to analyze the schedule of planets, taking into account which planets were in a strong phase at that moment. Experts in the field of astrology swear by Saturns, the right name can enhance the talents and abilities of the child, and the wrong one can weaken his strengths.
All names are divided into 12 groups, depending on the corresponding signs of the zodiac, so good names for children will be those that are in a related star group or in one of the four elements.

How to choose a son’s name depending on the season in which he was born
Winter names
It is believed that purposeful, stubborn and strong-willed children are born in December, January and February. They grow into very integral personalities, who often perceive the world somewhat one-sidedly, and sometimes too categorically. The world for them is divided into black and white, they ignore the world of shades. To soften this sharpness and hardness of nature, psychologists advise giving them neutral or mild names.

Spring names very changeable mood. They always need a goal for which they will try, but sometimes they will be so persistent in achieving it that they may not understand when their strength has run out. Hence the suddenly coming melancholy and bad mood. Creative work can stabilize this impulsiveness, and let them choose which one, at the behest of the soul.

Summer names
In boys born in the summer, there is something from the hussar and dzhigitstvo. They are active, proud, love freedom, risk, speed, change of place and, in general, any change. The latter inspire them to exploits. Even if sometimes these heroisms end sadly, the old experience will not at all prevent them from filling new bumps: nature cannot be changed. It is better for parents of such June, July and August children to give short and courageous names.

Russian names and surnames in English
Ways of translating names
- Fiction translators usually try to translate «speaking» «flower» and «edifying» names. A girl named Rosa will become Rose , Faith will be called Faith . Such a translation is acceptable for a deeper understanding of the intention of the author of the work. In ordinary life, it would be strange to call Nadezhda the word Hope .
- To immerse students in the language environment, for example at school or in language courses, they are given similar English names. Elena will be Helen , Katya — Kate , Michael — Michael , Masha — Mary .
- For official business style, the transliteration method is used. We’ll talk about it below.
You can apply for training here
Transliteration
Transliteration is the transfer of characters from one language to characters from another. That is, in the case of transliteration into English, we write Russian names using the English alphabet. Transliteration, which can be briefly called translit, does not convey the sound of the word, but the spelling. Transcription, the word familiar to us from English lessons, helps to find out how the word sounds in real life.
It must be remembered that in business correspondence and in official documents, proper names — first name, patronymic, last name — are not translated, English-language counterparts are not selected for them. It is required to write the word in Latin. But the difficulty lies in the fact that there are no identical rules, clear transliteration norms. The spelling of Evgeny’s name can be seen as Evgenia , Yevgenia , Yevgeniya . However, general requirements for transliteration can still be determined.
General spelling rules
Transliteration from Cyrillic to Latin is as follows:
A — A |
I — I |
S — S |
b — do not designate |
B – B |
Y — Y |
T — T |
Y — Y |
B — V |
K — K |
U — U |
b — do not designate |
G — G |
L — L |
F – F |
E — E |
D — D |
M — M |
X – KH |
Yu — YU |
E — E (YE) |
N — N |
C — TS |
I — YA |
Yo — E(YE) |
O — O |

W — ZH |
P — P |
SH – SH |

Z — Z |
R — R |
SH — SHCH |
Private transliteration rules
- When we need to write Russian endings in proper names, then the rules are as follows:
- -ai — -ai
- -aya — -aya
- -y — -y(iy)
- -ei — -ei
- -ia — -ia
- -oy — -oy(i)
- — -yi
- We write the combination of two consonant letters “j” like this: j , dj or dzh .
- «Ks» is better to convey with a combination of ks instead of x so that the word sounds more correct.
- We write the letters E and E as E , but if it is at the beginning of a word, or after b, b signs, or after a vowel, then we write it as YE
- The letter Yo , is usually written as E , but if we want to highlight it exactly as the sound Yo, then we use the combination YO — Pyotr , Fyodor
Features of transliteration in the passport
The rules and norms of transliteration for international passports have changed quite often. To date, all state organizations are subject to order No. 889The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, according to which the transliteration of names and surnames for a passport will be as follows:
Full name in English
If you open your passport, you will see that it does not contain a middle name. The fact is that such a thing as “patronymic name” ( patronymic name ) is absent in English culture. However, many residents of European countries, as well as residents of English-speaking countries, have middle name «middle name», given to them from birth. It most often symbolizes the connection of generations in a family or is used to express the individuality of a child, whose first name is quite common in the country. For example, John Michael Smith . Middle name is not an analogue of a patronymic, and when filling out documents, it can sometimes even be reduced to one letter: John Fitzgerald Kennedy = John F. Kennedy
Quite often it may be necessary to pronounce your full name in English. In such situations, we say the first name, then the patronymic, and then the last name. For example: Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev .
When we fill out the document, in column First name we indicate the name, and in column Last name ( Second name ) we write the last name.
