Braising

Braising is just searing a piece of meat and then simmering it in a combination of its own juices and the liquid of your choice.

When braising beef tongue, you actually want to start with a short boil or blanch. Do the same steps as above but only cook it for about half the time (90min or so). Then, peel the beef tongue, brown it in a pot, add whatever aromatics and liquids like wine or stock you want, and cook it for a few more hours until soft.

Slow Cooker

Cooking beef tongue in a slow cooker is as easy as it gets. Just rub it down with salt and throw it on low for 8 hours or so along with your favorite aromatics. After you take it out, you can chop it up and pan fry it to finish it off.

You may also have to peel it if it comes raw, and sometimes raw tongue includes a hard bit of cartilage at the back of the tongue that you will need to remove after your initial boiling or braising.

1. How to make a paper cube

This is the simplest and, as a rule, known to all method. In this master class we will tell you how to make a cube out of A4 paper. To do this, you will need a printer to print the template, but you can draw a diagram on the sheet yourself.

You will need:

• A4 heavyweight paper or thin A4 paper;
• printer or pencil and ruler;
• paper scissors;
• paper glue.

Step 1

Redraw this template on paper (the template consists of six squares and flaps) or cardboard, or print it out (you can find the templates here).

Step 2

Cut out the shape.

Step 3

Fold the workpiece along all lines, directing all folds towards the center.

2. How to make a collapsible origami cube

This cube is good because, firstly, it is disassembled and easily assembled again, because it consists of separate modules. Secondly, by taking paper sheets of different colors, you will get a cube with multi-colored faces. For such crafts, double-sided colored paper is better suited.

You will need:

• 6 identical square sheets of double-sided colored paper.

Step 1

Take one of the square sheets and fold it in half.

Step 2

Open the fold you made. Now fold the edges of the sheet parallel to the fold so that they meet at the fold line. Smooth out the new fold lines.

Step 3

Bend the workpiece in half across, but do not smooth the fold, but make a small mark. Bend the edges of the workpiece to this mark. You should end up with a module like in the picture above.

Step 4

Repeat the previous steps with the remaining five sheets. Now you have six modules from which you can assemble a cube.

Step 5

Fold the blanks as shown in the picture above.

Ready!

You can make several of these cubes.

If you do not want to disassemble them, cover them with transparent tape so that the modules hold firmly.

3. More complex origami paper cube

This origami cube is a little more difficult to make than the previous two, but it turns out to be the most beautiful! For it, you can also use paper of different colors, and due to the interweaving of parts of multi-colored modules, the cube gets edges with a pattern. For this craft, it is also better to take paper that is colored on both sides.

You will need:

• 6 square sheets of double-sided colored paper of the same size but different colors.

Step 1

If you have large paper, prepare the squares by drawing them and cutting them out of the sheets. Here squares of 15×15 cm are used. If you take larger squares, the cube will be larger, if smaller, respectively, smaller. You can make such a cube from paper of the same color, but it’s better to start with colored modules: this will make it easier to work, especially for children.

Step 2

Take one square and fold it in half.

Step 3

Unfold the fold made in the step above. Fold the side edges of the square parallel to this fold to the fold. Smooth out the folds you made.

Step 4

Bend the upper left corner of the workpiece down diagonally so that the edges match at the bottom. Smooth out the fold.

Step 5

Bend the lower right corner of the workpiece diagonally up in the same way. Smooth out the fold.
