Have you ever heard of the Chinese Gender Predictor Chart and Calendar? Some sources claim it to be 85% accurate. Others say it has the accuracy of a coin flip — 50/50. One or another, it is still 100% fun 🙂 It all goes back to the 13th century when a gender prediction calendar was discovered in a Chinese royal tomb (according to a legend). Back then, they claimed it to be 99% accurate. The studies form North America from the last century set its accuracy on 85%. Still worth the shot, right? 🙂

How does it work? Two factors are determining the gender of the baby — the lunar age of the expecting mother and the month of actual conception. The lunar age is not the same as the “normal” age of the woman. The Chinese lunar year is 355 days long; therefore, you must re-calculate «how old» you actually are. Sounds ominous? Trust us, it is not :). We will show you how you can do it, keep on reading.

The Chinese Lunar Year is, as we have already mentioned, 355 days long. What makes it even more different from our Gregorian Calendar is that it does not begin on the same day every year. The New Year is celebrated in China sometime between the first half of January and the end of February. For example, in 1955, they celebrated the Chinese New Year on January 24th, while in 2003, it was on February 1st.

If you want to know how old are you according to the Chinese Lunar Year, you must keep in mind the changing first day of the Chinese Lunar Year, and you must add one year to your actual age (because they count your age from the conception, not from birth, in China).

How old are you?

Let’s show how to count it on an example. Let’s say, you were born on February 25th, 1986. According to the Gregorian Calendar, you are (today, October 2018) 32 years old. According to the timeline mentioned above, the Chinese year began on February 9th, 1986 (therefore before you were born). So you are 32 according to both the Gregorian and the Chinese Calendar. However, you will have to add one year, because they count age from the conception in China, not from the day you were born (as we do).

32 + 1 = 33 years old

For example, if you were born on February 8, 1986, the day before the beginning of the year, by October 2018 you have 32 according to the Gregorian calendar, but 33 according to the Chinese calendar (because you were born in 1985 according to it). To this must be added 1 «prenatal year».

33 + 1 = 34 let

The conception of a baby according to the Chinese Calendar

JAs we have already mentioned above, two factors determine the gender of your baby. First is your lunar age at the time of conception. You already know how to calculate it. The second factor is the month of the procreation. Finding out the gender of your baby is then easy — look at the chart, pink windows symbolize a girl, blue ones are for boys. So, if you were 34 for at the time of conception and you procreated in October, you have an 85% chance to hold a soft pink bundle of joy nine months later. If you want a little mate running around, wait one more month, and you have an 85% chance of having a baby boy.

History of The Chinese Birth Chart

The Chinese birth chart has been around for eons and is simple to use. Just start by calculating your lunar age. A little history going way back says using a Chinese birth chart was revered and relied upon by the late Qing Dynasty’s Imperial family whose favor leaned toward the hope of having boys over girls.

It was kept secret and shared with only a select few. The emperors would also make plans for their future emperors or empresses as well. Having a boy would mean being able to carry on the lineage of the family name.

The boys in the family were also more well-favored because of their ability to go out and work and provide money to support their families.

There are two parts to the Chinese birth calendar.

1. The lunar age going down and
2. The chart showing the month of conception going across.

The columns that have the space to indicate the numbers down the left side will represent the mother’s age at the time she conceived and the columns on the chart going across will represent the month of conception. To predict the baby’s gender follow down and across to where the age and month will intersect. the box will be blue for a boy or pink for a girl of course.

Again, just two steps: Just simply enter your age at the time of conception and then simply click on predict baby’s gender. For gender selection, before you conceive, you would pick the age when the mother is planning on conceiving. If you want a girl, you would choose pink and then blue if you would like a boy.

The tradition of using a prediction calendar — also referred to as a Chinese birth chart or a Chinese Birth calendar — date back quite a few centuries to the Qing Dynasty which dates back to the year 1636 until 1912. It is said to have been taken by military forces to England where it was then translated into the English language.

More historical researchers say that a Chinese scholar copied the prediction chart in 1972 and the owner then made it public and unfortunately, with the chart having such a long and almost unverifiable history, the authenticity could not be truly investigated or verified.

How Accurate is The Chinese Gender Predictor?

The calendar’s accuracy is said to rank much higher than other gender tools used online ranging from 50 to 70% more or less. Some of the histories of the calendar say that it was taken by military forces to England where it was then translated into the English language.

This ancient practice consists of many tales that may or may not be true. Others say that the Chinese gender predictor was found in a royal tomb guarded by eunuchs, but with expert research, no real concrete evidence can really support that claim.

There are some claims that also state that the Chinese gender predictor is 90% accurate, others claimed it to be 50/50 and deeper studies say only 30% accurate.

The prediction chart has such a long history and due to this circumstance, some things may never be truly proven concerning its true accuracy and nature. Directions for the Chinese Birth Chart

1. Go to the Chinese Pregnancy Calendar page, then follow the steps below to get your most accurate results.
2. Take note of the mother’s age at the time of conception.
3. Take note of the month when the baby was conceived.
4. Locate that month on the top portion of the Chart and the age on the left side of the chart. (Example)
5. Finally, follow each row and column on the Chinese Birth Calendar to the spot where they meet and intersect, and look for the corresponding box labeled B for boy, or G for girl (they have also been color coded pink or blue as well).

The year in the cycle is indicated by two hieroglyphs according to the principle «celestial stem + earthly branch». The astronomical countdown in the calendar starts from the new moon (and not from the first date of the Gregorian calendar), so the New Year, that is, the 1st day of the 1st lunar month — the Chinese Spring Festival — falls between late January and early February. This year it will be celebrated on the night of January 24-25 according to the Gregorian calendar.

Merging of «earthly branches» and «heavenly stems» gives rise to «five primary elements»: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water, their alternation explains all phenomena of the world — they mutually generate and mutually overcome each other.
