Try Sgt. Frog, it’s pretty tame. I mean, there’s certainly no blood. There are some other things that may be deemed questionable for showing ten year olds, but it depends on your standards. Fruits Basket is also pretty tame, though it has some suggestive stuff and some swearing as well. If you’re okay with that, those two are quite good; my bro has a twelve year old friend; he and his ten year old brother always watch Sgt. Frog with us, and my friend saw Fruits Basket when she was nine. I can’t think of any others at the moment. If those two aren’t suitable though, I’d say the only ones could be Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh, etc…you know, all the ones with the lame dubs. XD

I am 15 and these are things i want to say before the list:
blood can be ok! same with death! your kid isn’t gonna be scarred, and shows with blood tend to be more interesting, not because of the blood, but because the stories are usually more developed.

life is life, so any, ANY, anime, unless it has more than 10 swear words/ suggestive scenes per episode, is ok.

They won’t repeat swear words like in shows, they are smart and have already reached that knowledge

if they like an anime, don’t take it away from them because of a little swearing or blood.

ok to the list:

shugo chara (you said your opinion, but my childhood)
one piece (maybe not)
squid girl
yu gi oh is everyone’s childhood but eh
noragami
kemono friends

maybe not for all of these i didn’t ever really watch innocent anime

Watch online

There are many anime for a variety of audiences. We have compiled a list of ten anime that the whole family will enjoy.

Over the past three decades, Japanese animation (or anime for short) has gained popularity all over the world. Although fans of the genre existed outside of Japan well into the 90s, the advent of Pokémon and Dragon Ball brought anime into the mainstream. Now every year Japanese animation attracts more and more fans.

10. «Pokemon» («Pokemon»)

While anime such as «Speed Racer», «Voltron» and «Astro Boy» were only gaining popularity, «Pokemon» was already known all over the world. The protagonist Ash Ketchum trains and fights to become a Pokémon master. With help from friends and a group of Pokémon led by Pikachu, Ash learns new combat strategies and meets legendary Pokémon like Mewtwo. With over 1,000 episodes of the anime series (there are also several full-length films), your family will spend more than one evening watching.

9. My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia may not be suitable for young children, but will delight teens 12 and up. The anime has lewd scenes and a bit of gore, but there’s nothing that young viewers haven’t seen in the Marvel movies. In the center of the plot is a teenager Izuku Midoriya, who dreams of becoming a superhero. Izuku is a student at Yuei Academy, a special education institution for children with superpowers. There they train and, upon coming of age, become professional superheroes. The anime is filled with action, humor, but at the same time there is a place for discussing the responsibility of people with superpowers.

8.

«Doraemon»

Doraemon has the unique ability to pull out any device he desires from a 4D pocket in his stomach. However, Doraemon’s attempts to help usually lead to even more trouble. In general, there are three anime about Doraemon, starting from 1979th year, however, the most recent version is more suitable for a modern audience.

7. «Barakamon»

After young calligrapher Handa Seishu hit another famous calligrapher, he is sent to live on a small island as punishment. Handa has never lived outside of a big city and is having a hard time adjusting to his new life and the strange customs of new neighbors like Naru Kotoishi. This little girl lives on the island with her grandmother and constantly visits Handa’s house. Based on the manga by Satsuki Yoshino, this twelve-episode short anime is great for family viewing. In terms of comedy, Barakamon is reminiscent of the TV series Shitts Creek.

6. «Planetes»

The action takes place in the year 2075. «Wanderers» tells about the life of the space crew «Toybox DS-12», which is engaged in the removal of space debris from the orbits of the Earth and the Moon. New DS-12 member Ai Tanabe quickly realizes that she and the other scavengers are looked down upon, but that doesn’t stop the crew from doing a dangerous yet necessary job. Meanwhile, her instructor Hachirota «Hachimaki» dreams of one day owning her own ship. Like My Hero Academia, The Wanderers is not suitable for children under the age of 12.

Sailor Moon is loved by many not only for its humor and action, but also for the empathy and understanding that the characters show in order to win. The anime was released over twenty years ago, which may make some of the storylines and jokes look dated, but there is nothing repulsive about it.

Still from the anime «Spirited Away»

After the cancellation of several major premieres in Russia, many viewers decided to watch their favorite classics, such as Japanese cartoons, in online cinemas. Forbes Life has compiled a selection of seven of the best full-length anime with a high rating on IMDb, which are definitely worth a look for fans of animation, culture and history of Japan

«Spirited Away»

Year: 2001
IMDb Rating: 8.6

This beautiful feature film by Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki can be found in almost every list of the best anime films. The film is based on the story of a ten-year-old girl, Chihiro Ogino, who moves with her family. On her way to her new home, she and her family are subjected to “kamikakushi,” a term used in Japanese Shinto folklore to describe people being abducted by Kami spirits. Chihiro and her parents find themselves in the other world, where a witch named Yubaba turns adults into pigs, and deprives the girl of her real name, calls her Sen and forces her to work in local baths. Now the heroine needs to find a way to free herself and her parents from the spell of the evil sorceress and return to the human world. Most of the characters in the anime cartoon (including one of Chihiro’s helper friends, Faceless) are based on Japanese folklore and culture, and the description of the spirit world is inspired by Miyazaki Koganei’s hometown.

In 2002, Spirited Away won the Golden Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival, and in 2003 it won the Best Animated Feature category at the Oscars. For 19 years since its release, the film has been the highest-grossing Japanese film ever, earning nearly $396 million worldwide. The film’s record was broken by the new Demon Slayer: Infinite Train, which grossed $502 million in 2020.

«Grave of the Fireflies»

Year: 1988
IMDb rating: 8. 5

Among anime, it is rare to find projects in the non-entertainment genre. Grave of the Fireflies is an interesting tragedy film, the second film of the famous Japanese studio Studio Ghibli, founded in 1985 by Hayao Miyazaki together with Isao Takahata. The anime is based on the semi-autobiographical story of the same name by writer Akiyuki Nosaki in 1967 about the bombing of the Japanese city of Kobe by American troops during World War II.

The main characters are the brother and sister of Seita and Setsuko, whose house, like half of Kobe, was destroyed by a bomb. And their mother died from severe burns. Now the children will have to endure all the horrors of the last months of the war together. They move in with greedy relatives, run away, starve, steal, hide from more airstrikes, flee from enemy soldiers and bury their loved ones, but continue to care for each other.

The film was included in the list of the best military films of the American magazine Time Out, taking tenth place.

«Princess Mononoke»

Year: 1997
IMDb rating: 8.4

Another classic fantasy cartoon by Hayao Miyazaki, created by Studio Ghibli. The action takes place in the IVX century in Japan. The main character is a prince named Ashitaka. Once, having killed a deer-like demon, he brought upon himself the death curse of Tatarigami. In search of a cure, the prince goes on a journey and ends up in the mysterious land of Tatar, whose population, led by the evil lady Eboshi, has been fighting with the magical inhabitants of the forest for several years now — they are called «mononoke». The leaders of the forest spirits are a princess named San and the wolf god Moro. Ashitaka decides to end the conflict between humans and creatures once and for all by defeating an ancient demon that pits them against each other.

Miyazaki says the film was inspired by concerns about how society’s technological progress affects the environment. And the images of forest creatures that people are afraid of and from which they try to isolate themselves without even trying to find out are written off from people with disabilities and patients with leprosy living in a sanatorium near Miyazaki’s house in Tokyo.

In 1998, the film won the Japan Film Academy Award in the Best Film category.

«Your name»

Year: 2016
IMDb rating: 8.4

The plot of the full-length fantasy drama is the story of two teenagers — a high school student from Tokyo Taki and a high school student from the small Japanese town of Mitsuhi. One day, for inexplicable reasons, a guy and a girl begin to switch bodies in their sleep. Being in a strange body and living the life of another person, they begin to communicate, leaving messages on paper, on the phone, and sometimes even on the skin, and help each other. For example, Taki (in Mitsuha’s body) makes a girl popular at school, and she, in turn, assigns a guy a date with a girl with whom he did not dare to speak and confess his love. Getting used to each other and becoming friends, they try to find a way to connect in real life. However, suddenly their connection is interrupted.

Until 2020, the picture was considered the highest grossing anime in the world. The project collected almost $358 million at the worldwide box office.

The director of the film, Makoto Shinkai, wrote the story that formed the basis of the film. Before the release of Your Name, he was known as the author of another very popular animation project, 5 Centimeters Per Second, about the first love of a Japanese teenager named Takaki Tohno.

«Walking castle»

Year: 2004
IMDb rating: 8.2

Howl’s Moving Castle is another iconic fantasy anime by Hayao Miyazaki. The film is based on the 1986 novel of the same name by British writer Diana Wynn Jones. The action of the picture takes place around the 20th century in a fictional kingdom where magical spirits, demons, witches and sorcerers coexist with people. The country at this time is at war with another state. The main character is a young girl named Sophie who works in a women’s hat shop. One day, one of the visitors to the shop — an evil witch — curses Sophie, turning her into an old woman. A terrified girl runs away from her hometown and finds a magical house on legs, which is walking in an unknown direction. It is inhabited by a powerful magician named Howl, whom an old woman begs to rid her of evil spells, and his demon-slave Calcifer.

Before the Japanese premiere, the filmmakers presented the project at the 61st Venice Film Festival in 2004. Howl’s Moving Castle became the first anime film shown at the opening of the festival. And in 2006, Miyazaki’s tape was nominated for an Oscar in the category «Best Animated Film».
