50+ FREE Printable Scavenger Hunts for Kids

A list of more than 50 free printable scavenger hunts for kids that can be used all year long — great activities for indoor & outdoor fun!

I love a good scavenger hunt for kids!! You might think it’s because scavenger hunts can be a great learning opportunity which is true — kids hone their observations skills, learn to work as a team, practice their reading skills and more.

But here’s my little secret …

I really love scavenger hunts because they are an awesome independent activity for kids!

Ahh…independent activities.

Which means I get a few minutes without hearing “Mom, Mom, Mom..”  🙂

For kids too young to read, you can find some great picture scavenger hunts.

And kids who are readers not only practice their reading skills but also make great leaders for younger sibs as they do a hunt together.

Adults can offer minimal help — for example, during dinner prep, read the items on the list while kids run around the house to find them. Plus scavenger hunts are great for holiday gatherings, birthday parties or just as a fun family activity on the weekend or a walk home from school!

Here’s a round-up of spectacular scavenger hunts for kids with monthly themes – more than 50 in all for year-round fun!   We’ve included affiliate links for a few scavenger hunt items we love too!

One great thing that’s always good to have on hand is a sturdy 9 x 12″ Clipboard

and pencil — it makes it SO much easier for kids to keep track of the paper and check off items!

Some of the hunts are the traditional print-and-go type hunts while others are more unique — every one of them is a great adventure 🙂  Have fun!!

Fun Brain Breaks for Kids

[email protected]

According to various researches and studies, children cannot work more than 4-5 hours as school takes up to about 3 hours. The generally accepted rule is that the time children have to do their homework should be based on the class they are in. A fourth grade student is required to work on their homework for 40 minutes. But children have shorter attention spans than adults, and in order to keep their attention, parents and teachers need to divide time and include some fun activities to make learning more interesting for children.
Anyone may have a question: what are brain breaks? brain breaks for children are short breaks that children take during tasks or while studying to relax their muscles and brain; the most important.
Brain breaks are important for children and help them relax: mentally and physically. Fun brain breaks keep kids motivated and encourage them to perform even better. Fun activities called brain breaks can be followed at home or school. Below are some fun activities for kids that can help parents and teachers to encourage them.

1- Dancing

The first activity we have on our list is dancing, and who doesn’t love dancing. This is the best brain-breaking activity where kids can lose control, dance with all their heart and get as much as they can! Dancing has many benefits, as it is one of the greatest exercises that involves all parts of the children’s body from head to toe. Not only is this a fun exercise, but it also develops kinesthetic memory as children learn dance, movements, patterns, etc. Dancing is the most preferred form of entertainment for children.

2- Volleyball or ball throwing

Some kids don’t like to dance, so don’t worry, we’ll have your back. Volleyball and ball throwing have become fun with a surprising twist. Instead of a ball, all you need is a water balloon! Take as many balloons as you want, fill them with water and start the game. Since it’s almost summer and water games are quite a brain-bending fun activity to get your hands on.

3- Yoga

Yoga may seem a bit boring, but it’s the best brain-breaking activity. In addition, it is the best way to relax the muscles and the brain. Soothing background music and meditation for a couple of minutes can really work wonders, and not only children, but also adults can take part in this activity, as it motivates children too. Encourage children to bend, stretch and express themselves for this exercise. Parents and teachers can take notes in apps available on the app store to make yoga more fun for kids. Undoubtedly, this is the best stress reliever for kids of all ages, so everyone better try it today!

4- Scavenger hunt

Is there anything more exciting for kids than this? There may be one, but scavenger hunt is every child’s favorite game. This can be done both indoors and outdoors, the instructor can pass the list of hidden objects to the child and provide a timeline to keep the kids having fun. Kids can give their suggestions too and it will be more fun than ever before. Without a doubt, we can call it one of the best mind-bending activities for kids.

5- Puzzles

Puzzles are once again the best entertainment for children. Puzzles come in different shapes, shapes, sizes, and number of pieces. This activity can be of great value, as you can start with a simple set of puzzles and gradually level up. This brain activity is perfect for toddlers when they can’t get outside in the scorching heat. The puzzle helps children develop better cognitive skills and also strengthens baby’s fine motor skills. Try these addictive puzzles to improve your problem solving skills. Incorporate these fun brain exercises into your child’s learning schedule to encourage them.

6- Entertainment and educational applications

During a global pandemic, it is difficult to offer any kind of outdoor activities for children or anyone else. Kids these days are lacking in fun when it comes to their entertainment and fun activities, it is very important to stay safe and follow all standard operating procedures. These trivia questions app for kids combines a great amount of educational and entertaining balance, interesting games, videos and a wide variety of fun activities. Below is a list of some of the best entertainment apps for kids to consider.

    • Juice of words
    • Gonoodle Application

    • Adventure Academy
    • Draw it game

TRUCK HUNT IS A FAMILY GAME: montessoriblog — LiveJournal

The scavenger hunt game was invented in America and has been played by fans, young and old, for many years. The rules are simple: players are given a list of items that they must discover in a given space within a certain amount of time. The winner is the one who quickly finds the items on the list. A green fruit, a round object, something metallic — come up with any tasks you want and see how the children cope with them in different ways.

Step one — choose a place

The search operation can be carried out at home or outdoors: in the yard, in the nearest park, or even throughout the city, if, for example, you travel with your family by car or bicycles. If you are planning a home party for children, divide the participants into teams and set the game time for 15-20 minutes. And if you came up with a hunt just for your family, play for fun, take your time. To play you will need a pre-compiled list of items; a box in which you can put the finds; markers to mark found items in the list.

Step two — make a list of «finds»

The list of items for the game depends only on your imagination. Let the tasks be as simple as a ball, a newspaper, a rectangular thing, or intricate: can the participants find an object in the city park that can be sent for recycling? Ready-made templates with tasks can be found on the Internet (mostly in English), but it will be much more interesting to create them yourself.

Examples of finds for the home:

  • knitwear;
  • sweetness;
  • a book with more than 400 pages;
  • something useful in sports;
  • something smaller than a dice, etc.

For outdoor hunting, these can be:

  • mailbox;
  • lamp;
  • a person who walks a dog;
  • that which can fly;
  • something to sit on, etc.

Step three — set the rules

Before starting the game, discuss the rules with the participants and make sure they understand them. Can the children scatter through the list, or do they have to check the items in order? Can team members work separately to save time, or should they always be together? How will the winner be determined: by calculating the points for the items found or by filling out the entire list?

Scavenger hunt can be played anywhere, even in the airport lounge. Write a list in a notebook and go in search of a passenger who travels with a pet; a pink suitcase and a man who reads a newspaper. During a road trip, invite your child to check the list of oncoming cars of all colors of the rainbow. On a walk, ask to find all the letters of the alphabet on street signs.
