Alien Dog Names | Popular Male and Female Names

Introduction

For fans of science fiction or just extraterrestrials in general, giving your dog an alien name is a great way to tell others that they are either strange, unique or out of this world — or simply that you’re a fan of the genre. Whatever the case may be, there have been tons of aliens throughout history that have come to light thanks to the entertainment industry and the pop culture that surrounds it. From legends like Star Trek and Star Wars to lesser-known black and white classic movies like Robot Monster, there are more than enough options for giving your dog an alien name.

When talking about the dogs of science fiction, it’s hard to choose just one. While many aliens are often humanoid or the complete opposite, when dogs happen to be aliens, they’re often easy to spot. Throughout the film, television, and literary history, more than enough famous canine aliens have graced us with their weirdness, so instead of narrowing the options down to a singular extraterrestrial canine, we’re going to highlight a select three of the most interesting.

Although many non-comic book fans may think Superman was just a regular guy who somehow inherited superpowers, it’s often overlooked that he’s actually an alien from the planet Krypton. In a similar fashion, when his canine companion, Krypto, came into being, he shared a similar history as an alien being with a regular appearance but with crazy super-canine powers. In fact, despite the difference in species, Krypto even shares most of Superman’s powers such as flight and x-ray vision, reinforcing the specific superpowers heroes are imbued with when coming from a single origin.

Much like Krypto, there was another semi-popular dog that came into being around the same time: Lockjaw. Lockjaw was closely tied to the Fantastic Four and although he originally started as a human before being mutated into his canine form by exposure to the Terrigan Mists, he is still known for his ultra-sensitive (and inter-dimensionally capable) nose and ability to teleport through space and time.

Muffit may be one of the strangest we’ve featured on any list. Originally the canine sidekick of Boxey from the first Battlestar Galactica series, Muffit (the daggit, the Battlestar word for dog) was eventually killed by Cylons, shortly before colonial scientists were able to reassemble him Million-Dollar-Man-style, giving him the appearance of a freakish Muppet with fluffy fur and a strange stagger that was largely the product of being acted by a chimpanzee named Evolution.

Although Kazak isn’t always given much page-space, the time-traveling dog does appear in two of Kurt Vonnegut’s most famous novels, The Sirens of Titan and Breakfast of Champions. While descriptions of him are vague in the prior, he is revealed to be a Doberman Pinscher in the latter, one who has transformed from a sci-fi canine companion into a restless and aggressive beast waiting to take a piece of out the narrator, his short appearance wholly representative of the thematic elements Vonnegut layers his books with like thick frosting.

Alien Dog Name Considerations

Coming up with the right alien name for your dog can be tricky business. You’ll obviously want to find one that fits them but suits you as well, so a little thought and research beforehand can help narrow the search more quickly. We suggest starting by making a list of their most defining traits as well as a list of your favorite sci-fi movies, television shows, comics and so on. Once you’ve done both, identify what aliens exist amongst your favorites, then start to compare characteristics.

For instance, if you’re a fan of Star Trek, you’ll have plenty of options between the characters themselves, like Whorf or Spock, to the species/races they originate from, such as Klingon and Vulcan. Don’t be afraid to go beyond your favorites either. If your dog has particularly long hair or tends to have a strange, throaty howl, then Chewbacca might be a good fit. If they have a huge mouth and tend to eat everything in sight, then maybe the name Audrey would be more suitable.

Start by narrowing down your list to your favorite titles and characters and see what fits best for the pair of you. If you need any further inspiration, don’t hesitate to go back and re-watch or re-read whatever seems the most promising.

Orton, Ah-Ming, Numa… — why do aliens have such strange names?

In the archives of ufologists there are many stories about contactees who allegedly talked with aliens, including those who told them their names. And very often these were names, as if deliberately bizarre and alien to a person of that nation with whom the stranger communicated.

This strange (and rather lengthy) list includes aliens Orton, Namu of Uni, Ah-Ming of Tarr, Rondoll of Fourth Density, and others.

Is that really their name, or does it mean something more. what might it seem at first glance?

In 1969, the British explorer Nessie Ted Holiday lived for some time in a hotel in Inverness, near the Scottish Loch Ness. During the day, he led excursions around the lake for tourists, and in the evening he returned to his hotel room.

And one day, three nights in a row, on his return, the owner of the hotel told Holiday that while he was away, a certain «Mr. Avol» came to the hotel and demanded to talk to Holiday. Moreover, on each of these three days he came three times within one hour. However, he never left his phone number and only gave a card with his written name.

Now fast-forward across the ocean to the United States, where in the late 1960s and early 1970s anomalous researcher John Keel was studying a creature called the Mothman. At some point, he ran into a contactee girl named Jill, who claimed that she was communicating with some extraterrestrial creature named Apol or Apal.

Jill herself was rather uneducated and read nothing but comics, but the information that Apol passed through her was striking in its knowledge. He could also predict various events, including plane crashes.

In 1967, an acquaintance of Keel’s named Jay Paro, who worked on radio in New York, suddenly met the Man in Black, who called himself «Mr. Apol». He acted like a typical Man in Black, that is, he was mysteriously threatening and grinning intimidatingly. This happened shortly after Jay saw a UFO in the sky several times.

It was early in the morning when Jay went for a walk. A black Cadillac suddenly stopped next to her and a man in a classic black suit of an outdated cut stepped out of it. The man smiled or smirked eerily, and then shook Jay’s hand and said, «I’m Apol.» His palm was as cold as a corpse’s.

In 1994, Briton Jerry Bunyard came across the Man in Black, who introduced himself as «Mr. Athol». He was wearing a black crew-neck sweater and black leather pants on a hot summer day.

So Apol, Athol and Avol. Surprisingly similar names. Just a coincidence? We move on.

In 1987, ufologist Whitley Strieber’s book «Communication» was published, in which he studied cases of alien abductions and the phenomenon of contactees. Among other things, he described the story of Truman Beturum, who in the 1950s communicated with a certain alien named Aura Raines, who arrived from the planet Clarion.

Strieber was hooked on this name and decided that it was very similar to the phrase «Aera Reann» (Aerach Reann), which in Gaelic means «Heavenly body in the air.» This term, many centuries ago in Scotland and Ireland, referred to the mysterious cases of fairies who kidnapped men.

In the summer of 1990, there were especially many crop circles in the UK. It was the time of the peak of interest in this phenomenon. Researcher Vanessa Martin spent a week wandering around Wiltshire, trying to solve the riddle of circles, and one day wandered to the ancient standing stones of Avebury.

There, a strange stranger suddenly approached her from somewhere and immediately started a conversation with Vanessa about crop circles, as if he knew who she was and what she was doing. He was dressed in bright white overalls, very clean, and he had long (almost to the waist!) yellowish hair. He resembled outwardly either a very neat hippie or a representative of some sect.

The man introduced himself as «Heyoki» or «Hoyaki». Or Heoika. Do you know who Heyoka is? Esotericists call this a special type of empath. An empath is a person who is able to feel the emotional state of another person. There are many different types of empaths and heyoka is one of the most powerful and «spiritually attuned».

This word «Heyoka» comes from a Native American language where it means «sacred joker» or «fool». However, this, of course, is not about the state of mind of the heyoki himself, but about the fact that he, with the help of some light energy of humor, can open people’s minds and heal them.
